KKN Gurugram Desk | Bihar continues to face severe cold and dense fog, disrupting daily life and causing concerns for commuters. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert for 12 districts in the state due to extreme foggy conditions. The affected districts include Madhubani, Supaul, Kishanganj, Araria, Madhepura, Katihar, Purnia, East Champaran, Saharsa, Sheohar, and West Champaran.

The IMD has also forecast a drop in minimum temperatures from February 6, leading to an increase in cold wave conditions across the region. Meanwhile, the impact of Western Disturbances will be seen from February 1 to February 3, with another stronger Western Disturbance expected on February 3. This system could lead to snowfall in the Himalayan region and rainfall in the plains, further intensifying the winter chill.

Additionally, due to extreme cold conditions, the Patna district administration has revised school timings, with schools now operating from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM from February 1 to February 8.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert: Dense Fog to Persist in Bihar

✅ Kishanganj
✅ Araria
✅ Madhepura

✅ East Champaran
✅ Saharsa
✅ Sheohar

These regions will experience thick fog during early morning and late-night hours, affecting road, rail, and air traffic. Travelers are advised to exercise caution while commuting.

Western Disturbance to Bring Rainfall and Snowfall in North India

Meteorologists have predicted the impact of two Western Disturbances on Bihar’s weather in the coming days:

???? February 1 to February 3 – A weaker Western Disturbance will affect parts of Bihar and northern India, but no significant temperature drop is expected.

???? February 3 Onwards – A stronger Western Disturbance will bring snowfall in the hilly regions and rainfall in the plains, which may impact Bihar as well.

???? Expected Weather Changes:

✔️ Plains (Including Bihar & UP): Light to moderate rainfall may occur in parts of North India.
✔️ Temperature Drop: From February 6, Bihar is expected to witness a further decline in minimum temperatures, increasing cold wave conditions.

The IMD has advised residents, especially farmers, daily commuters, and schoolchildren, to prepare for colder days ahead.

Bihar School Timings Revised Amid Cold Wave

Due to the ongoing cold wave and dense fog, the Patna district administration has announced changes in school timings.

???? Revised School Timings in Patna:
???? February 1 to February 8
⏰ New Timings: 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM

District Magistrate Dr. Chandrashekhar Singh issued this directive to ensure students’ safety during extreme cold conditions. Parents and students are advised to follow the new schedule until further updates from the administration.

How Dense Fog is Affecting Bihar’s Transportation

The severe fog conditions in Bihar have disrupted road, rail, and air travel, causing delays and inconvenience for passengers.

1️⃣ Impact on Road Traffic

???? Reduced Visibility: Vehicles are moving at slow speeds, leading to traffic congestion on major highways.
???? Increased Accidents: Low visibility has led to several road accidents, especially on the Patna-Gaya, Patna-Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur-Katihar highways.
???? Advisory: Commuters are advised to use fog lights, drive slowly, and avoid unnecessary travel during early morning and late-night hours.

2️⃣ Train Delays & Cancellations

???? Several trains in Bihar are running late due to dense fog.
???? Average Delay: 2 to 6 hours
???? Trains Affected: Major routes including Patna-Delhi, Patna-Kolkata, and Patna-Mumbai are experiencing significant delays.
???? Passengers are advised to check real-time updates before heading to railway stations.

3️⃣ Flights Affected at Patna Airport

✈️ Patna’s Jay Prakash Narayan International Airport is also witnessing flight delays due to poor visibility.
???? Airlines have issued advisories asking passengers to check flight status before reaching the airport.

Bihar Weather Forecast: What to Expect in the Coming Days?

???? February 2-3:
✅ Morning Fog, Slightly Warmer Days
✅ Mild Cold Conditions

???? February 4-6:
✅ Temperature Drop Expected
✅ Colder Mornings and Evenings

???? February 7-10:
✅ Western Disturbance Impact Continues
✅ Possibility of Light Rain in Some Areas

???? IMD advises residents to stay updated on weather alerts and take necessary precautions against extreme cold conditions.

Safety Tips During Dense Fog & Cold Weather

✔️ Avoid Early Morning & Late-Night Travel – Visibility is lowest during these hours.
✔️ Use Fog Lights & Drive Slowly – Reduces accident risk on highways.
✔️ Wear Warm Clothes in Layers – Protects against sudden temperature drops.
✔️ Keep Essential Medicines Handy – Especially for asthma and respiratory patients.
✔️ Check Flight & Train Schedules Before Travel – Reduces last-minute inconvenience.

With dense fog, low visibility, and extreme cold wave conditions, Bihar is set to experience harsher winter days in February. The IMD’s yellow alert for 12 districts highlights the seriousness of the situation, urging residents to stay cautious while traveling.

The Patna district administration’s decision to revise school timings reflects the government’s proactive approach to ensure student safety. Meanwhile, with an expected temperature drop post-February 6, Bihar will continue to face cold weather challenges in the coming days.
