KKN Gurugram Desk | The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for Bihar, forecasting a significant change in weather conditions from March 8 to 10. During this period, residents of several districts in the state can expect heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. The department has warned of pre-monsoon activity, which is expected to cause these adverse weather conditions.

According to the IMD, the upcoming weather changes are linked to pre-monsoon disturbances, which often bring significant shifts in the atmospheric conditions. The forecasted weather is likely to impact daily life, especially in the eastern regions of Bihar.

Affected Areas in Bihar: Forecast for March 8 to 10

The weather alert has been issued for multiple districts across Bihar. The regions of SupaulArariaKishanganjMadhubaniPurniaKatiharBhagalpurSaharsaKhagariaMungerBanka, and Jamui are expected to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms during this period. The IMD has advised residents in these areas to remain cautious, as the weather could cause disruptions in daily activities.

In addition to the rain and thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning are also expected to affect these districts. The IMD has specifically warned about the likelihood of thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds, which could reach speeds of up to 40 km per hour in certain areas.

Yellow Alert Issued for Severe Weather Conditions

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for several districts due to the potential for severe weather, including thunderstorms and strong winds. This alert applies to KishanganjPurniaKatiharBhagalpurBanka, and Jamui, where wind speeds could range from 30 to 40 kilometers per hour. Residents in these areas should be prepared for thunderstorms, lightning strikes, and rapid changes in weather.

Additionally, the weather department has emphasized the possibility of lightning strikes, which could be hazardous in some of these regions. Authorities have advised people to stay indoors during the stormy weather and to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary.

Temperature Variations Across Bihar

In addition to the expected rain and thunderstorms, the IMD report also highlighted significant variations in temperature across the state. On ThursdayAurangabad recorded the highest maximum temperature at 29.8°C, indicating the relatively warm conditions before the arrival of the rain. Other districts, including ValmikinagarMotihariGopalganjMuzaffarpurSitamarhiBuxarBhojpurSasaramArwalAurangabad, and Kishanganj, saw a rise in temperatures as well.

The higher temperatures in some parts of the state are expected to drop following the onset of the storms, which will bring relief to the residents. However, the sudden temperature shift could create uncomfortable conditions in some areas, especially during the stormy weather.

Precautions and Safety Measures

As Bihar braces for severe weather conditions, it is crucial for residents to take the necessary precautions. Here are some safety tips to help minimize the risks associated with thunderstorms, strong winds, and heavy rainfall:

  1. Stay Indoors: During a thunderstorm, it’s essential to stay inside a safe building. Avoid taking shelter under trees or near power lines, as these can attract lightning strikes.

  2. Secure Loose Objects: If you live in an area that is prone to high winds, secure any loose items around your house, such as outdoor furniture, plants, or construction materials, that could be blown away by strong winds.

  3. Travel Cautiously: If you need to travel during the stormy weather, ensure that your vehicle is in good condition. Avoid traveling on roads that are prone to flooding.

  4. Keep Emergency Supplies Ready: It’s always wise to have an emergency kit that includes essentials like flashlights, batteries, first-aid supplies, and non-perishable food items.

  5. Monitor Weather Updates: Stay updated with the latest weather reports from trusted sources, such as the IMD, to ensure you are aware of any further changes in the forecast.

Impact of Pre-Monsoon Weather in Bihar

The pre-monsoon weather conditions in Bihar are not unusual, as this is a common occurrence in the months leading up to the monsoon season. However, the intensity of the storms can vary from year to year. These weather changes often bring a sudden surge of rain, which is essential for farmers who rely on the upcoming monsoon for their crop irrigation.

At the same time, such weather conditions can also disrupt normal life, causing damage to crops, property, and infrastructure. Strong winds and lightning are particularly dangerous, as they can lead to power outages and even injuries or fatalities in extreme cases. Therefore, it is important for the public to be well-prepared and heed the warnings issued by local authorities.

The weather forecast for Bihar between March 8 and 10 calls for significant disruptions due to heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds. The IMD’s alert for various districts in Bihar indicates that this period will see pre-monsoon activity that could impact daily life. Residents in the affected areas should take the necessary precautions to stay safe and minimize the risk of harm.

As the monsoon season approaches, it is crucial for the people of Bihar to stay informed and be prepared for sudden weather changes. By staying alert to the latest weather updates and following safety guidelines, individuals can ensure their safety and reduce the potential impact of these unpredictable weather events.
