KKN Gurugram Desk |  In a much-awaited update for residents battling scorching heat, the Bihar Monsoon 2025 is expected to make its onset within the next 2–3 days, bringing relief from the intense summer conditions currently affecting the state.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the southwest monsoon is on track to arrive in Bihar around its usual timeline, between June 13 and June 15. Pre-monsoon activity may begin as early as Sunday in the capital, Patna, and nearby regions.

Pre-Monsoon Showers Likely in Bihar This Weekend

With daytime temperatures exceeding 40°C across major cities like Gaya, Chapra, and Patna, the arrival of pre-monsoon showers in Bihar is eagerly anticipated. Weather models suggest that cloud buildup and humidity levels have increased significantly, indicating imminent rainfall.

The monsoon, which had stalled over Sikkim and northern West Bengal since May 29, is now showing signs of advancement. Meteorologists believe it will enter Bihar through the Seemanchal region, particularly via Kishanganj and Purnia.

Why the Delay in Bihar Monsoon 2025?

Although the southwest monsoon arrived in Kerala eight days ahead of schedule, it lost momentum during its northward progression. This led to speculation earlier this month that Bihar might also experience an early onset. However, slow monsoon movement in the first week of June pushed back expectations.

Now, based on the latest forecast, it is likely that monsoon rains will hit Bihar right on schedule, between June 13 and 15, bringing much-needed relief from the persistent heatwave.

Southern Bihar Still in the Grip of Intense Heat

As Bihar awaits monsoon arrival, South Bihar continues to face severe heatwave conditions. Temperatures have remained consistently above 40°C, especially in cities like Patna, Gaya, and surrounding districts. The IMD has issued heatwave warnings, particularly for Friday, indicating no immediate respite for residents in southern regions.

On Wednesday night, parts of North Bihar, including Sitamarhi, Sheohar, and Muzaffarpur, witnessed moderate to heavy rainfall, signaling pre-monsoon activity. However, South Bihar, including Patna, remained dry and hot, with dry winds and oppressive humidity adding to the discomfort.

Power Outages Add to the Misery

The unbearable heat in South Bihar has been compounded by frequent power cuts, especially in densely populated areas like Kankarbagh in Patna. These outages have worsened conditions for residents struggling without fans or cooling appliances during peak afternoon hours.

Even as North Bihar begins to see scattered showers, the southern districts remain under heat stress, with little chance of rainfall before the weekend.

Monsoon Entry Point: Seemanchal Region

The entry point for monsoon in Bihar is typically through the Seemanchal belt, which includes districts like Kishanganj, Araria, and Purnia. Once the monsoon system breaches this zone, it spreads westward across the state.

With current atmospheric indicators showing a favorable shift, meteorologists are optimistic that widespread monsoon rainfall will begin shortly after the weekend.

What to Expect in the Coming Days?

  • June 13–14: Continued heatwave in South Bihar with temperatures hovering around 40–42°C.

  • June 15: Possibility of pre-monsoon showers in parts of Patna, Nalanda, and Bhojpur.

  • Post-June 15: Full monsoon onset in Bihar, with rainfall expected to intensify across most districts.

Impact on Agriculture and Daily Life

The timely arrival of the monsoon in Bihar is crucial for the Kharif sowing season. Farmers in many districts have delayed planting due to insufficient rainfall and extreme soil dryness. The upcoming rainfall will be critical for paddy cultivation and other seasonal crops.

Moreover, residents, especially in urban centers, are hoping the rains will ease the power demand pressure, which has led to outages and overburdened supply lines.

While the Bihar Monsoon 2025 is officially on track, Southern Bihar must endure a few more days of oppressive heat. The India Meteorological Department assures that relief is near, but until then, heatwave precautions remain essential.
