Bihar Election 2025 : VIP Withdraws Candidate from Babubarhi, RJD’s Arun Kushwaha to be Mahagathbandhan’s Official Nominee

Published on

The political landscape in Bihar is heating up as the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections approach. In a significant development, the Vikasheel Insaan Party (VIP) has decided to withdraw its candidate, Bindu Gulab Yadav, from the Babubarhi seat. This move comes as the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) candidate, Arun Kushwaha, will now represent the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance) on this seat. With VIP’s withdrawal, the Mahagathbandhan’s position on the Babubarhi seat has become much stronger.

Political Dynamics in Bihar’s Babubarhi Seat

Babubarhi, located in the Madhubani district of Bihar, has emerged as a crucial battleground in the 2025 Assembly elections. Initially, there was a significant contest within the Mahagathbandhan, as both VIP and RJD laid claim to the seat. The Vikasheel Insaan Party, led by Mukesh Sahani, had earlier nominated Bindu Gulab Yadav, the daughter of former RJD MLA Gulab Yadav, to contest from this seat. However, the situation changed dramatically when the RJD announced Arun Kushwaha as its candidate for Babubarhi.

This created an internal conflict within the Mahagathbandhan, with two candidates from the same alliance vying for the same seat. Both Bindu Gulab Yadav and Arun Kushwaha filed their nominations, leading to tension and disagreement over the seat-sharing arrangement within the alliance. The issue became more complicated as VIP insisted on contesting from Babubarhi without an agreement on seat distribution, putting additional pressure on the alliance.

VIP’s Withdrawal Strengthens Mahagathbandhan’s Position

The situation took a new turn when VIP decided to withdraw Bindu Gulab Yadav’s name from the race, paving the way for Arun Kushwaha to contest as the official candidate of the Mahagathbandhan. This development is seen as a significant move to ensure unity within the alliance and avoid a split in votes that could potentially benefit the opposition. With VIP stepping back, the Mahagathbandhan has managed to avoid a potential internal conflict and strengthened its prospects in Babubarhi.

Although the official announcement from the Election Commission is still awaited, the withdrawal of Bindu Gulab Yadav’s nomination is expected to help Arun Kushwaha secure a smooth path to contest in the upcoming elections. This decision is also seen as a strategic move by Mukesh Sahani and the VIP, especially after securing the Deputy Chief Minister position, which may have influenced their decision to pull back from the Babubarhi contest.

Upcoming Bihar Assembly Elections: Key Dates and Developments

The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections will be held in two phases. The first phase of voting is scheduled for November 6, while the second phase will take place on November 11. The results will be declared on November 14, 2025. As the election dates draw closer, the political tension surrounding seat-sharing in the Mahagathbandhan and opposition camps has only intensified. With the electoral battle approaching, every move, including candidate withdrawals and seat reshuffling, is closely watched.

The Babubarhi seat in the Madhubani district has been a focal point of contest between the major alliances in Bihar. The Mahagathbandhan’s internal tussle over the seat highlighted the challenges of seat-sharing and coalition dynamics. The decision by VIP to back down was seen as a strategic compromise to maintain unity and strengthen the alliance’s position going into the elections.

Tensions and Alliances in Bihar Politics

Bihar’s political scenario has always been a game of complex alliances. The state’s major political parties, including the RJD, Janata Dal (United), and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), are constantly vying for dominance, often leading to internal conflicts and shifting alliances. The Babubarhi seat episode is just one example of the intricate and sometimes tense dynamics that unfold within Bihar’s political framework during election seasons.

In this case, the Mahagathbandhan’s internal struggle over the Babubarhi seat sheds light on the challenges coalition partners face when balancing individual party ambitions with the broader goal of electoral success. The VIP’s withdrawal could have significant repercussions on the alliance’s strategy, ensuring that it remains united in the face of the upcoming elections.

RJD’s Strategy and Arun Kushwaha’s Candidacy

RJD’s decision to field Arun Kushwaha as the candidate for Babubarhi is seen as part of its broader strategy to consolidate support in key constituencies. Arun Kushwaha is a seasoned politician with considerable experience, and his candidacy could give the RJD an edge in the seat. The party’s backing of Kushwaha also signals its intent to ensure that all factions within the Mahagathbandhan are properly represented and that no internal conflicts derail the alliance’s chances in the election.

Arun Kushwaha’s candidacy marks a new chapter for the RJD in Bihar’s political landscape. As a well-known figure in the state, Kushwaha has the potential to rally voters and strengthen the Mahagathbandhan’s hold in the region. His campaign is expected to focus on key issues like development, employment, and social welfare, which have traditionally been strong talking points for the RJD.

The withdrawal of Bindu Gulab Yadav by VIP and the subsequent nomination of Arun Kushwaha from RJD has altered the political dynamics in Babubarhi and, more broadly, in Bihar’s upcoming elections. With the internal strife within the Mahagathbandhan seemingly resolved, the alliance is now focused on presenting a united front as it heads toward the elections in November 2025.

As election day draws nearer, the fate of Bihar’s 243 assembly seats will be decided through a series of strategic decisions, including candidate withdrawals and realignments. The resolution of the Babubarhi seat conflict is a critical moment for the Mahagathbandhan, as it helps the alliance consolidate its position ahead of the vote. With the final seat-sharing arrangements likely to be sorted out in the coming weeks, Bihar’s political landscape remains fluid, and the stakes for all parties involved are incredibly high. The 2025 Bihar Assembly elections are shaping up to be a fiercely contested battle, with each political move playing a pivotal role in the outcome.
