KKN Gurugram Desk | In one of the most tragic aviation disasters in recent Indian history, the Ahmedabad plane crash has claimed the lives of at least 265 people, including passengers, crew members, and civilians on the ground. The catastrophe has left the nation in mourning as families across states await confirmation of their loved ones’ fate.

Among the deceased is Manisha Thapa, a young and dedicated Air India flight attendant with roots in Nepal and Bihar, whose story has emerged as one of profound loss and inspiration.

Ahmedabad Plane Crash: What We Know So Far

The devastating crash occurred near a medical hostel in Ahmedabad, causing not only the destruction of the aircraft but also severe damage to nearby structures. According to official sources:

  • A total of 265 bodies have been recovered from the wreckage.

  • Among them, 241 were passengers and airline crew members aboard the ill-fated aircraft.

  • Five bodies were recovered from the medical hostel that was struck during the crash.

  • Several others remain unaccounted for, and search operations are ongoing.

Authorities are continuing rescue and identification efforts in collaboration with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), local police, and forensic teams. The black box has reportedly been retrieved and sent for analysis.

Bihar’s Daughter, Manisha Thapa, Among the Dead

One of the lives lost in the tragic crash was that of Manisha Thapa, a young woman who was serving as an Air India air hostess on the doomed flight. Her story has struck an emotional chord with many, especially in Bihar and Nepal, where she had deep roots.

Who Was Manisha Thapa?

  • Birthplace: Born in Patna, Bihar

  • Ancestral origin: Originally from Biratnagar, Nepal

  • Father: Raju Thapa, currently serving in Bihar Police, posted in Begusarai

  • Mother: Laxmi Thapa, a homemaker

  • Sibling: Younger brother Amit Thapa, currently a student

Manisha’s family is based in Jagdev Path, Patna, near Shyama Apartment, a locality now gripped with grief and silence.

Career Journey: From Indigo to Air India

Manisha Thapa began her professional journey in the aviation industry with IndiGo Airlines, where she trained and worked as a cabin crew member. Recognized for her professionalism and charm, she soon made a move to Air India, where she quickly rose through the ranks and gained the admiration of both passengers and colleagues.

Her passion for aviation and hospitality made her a rising star in the airline sector. According to friends and colleagues, she had recently completed advanced training and was preparing for international route assignments.

 Service Runs in the Family

The Thapa family has a deep association with public service and law enforcement. Two of Manisha’s paternal uncles:

  • Bablu Thapa

  • Guddu Thapa

are serving as Havildars in Bihar Special Armed Police (BSAP), Battalion No. 1. The entire family is known for its disciplined lifestyle and patriotic commitment, making this loss even more profound for the state.

 Patna Home in Mourning

The news of the crash reached the Thapa family late Friday night. Neighbors reported that as the confirmation came in, an eerie silence engulfed the entire locality.

“We still can’t believe it. She was full of life. Just last week, she had spoken to my daughter about planning a trip,” a neighbor shared. Friends and relatives have gathered at the family residence in Patna, where condolences continue to pour in from across Bihar and Nepal.

Local leaders and police officials have visited the residence to offer support. Arrangements are being made to bring Manisha’s remains home once official clearance and identification are complete.

 National Mourning and Reactions

The Government of India has announced a national mourning in honor of the victims. Prime Minister, aviation authorities, and state leaders have expressed condolences and assured families of comprehensive investigations and support.

Key Government Actions:

  • Full-scale investigation launched by DGCA and Air Safety Board

  • Compensation for victims’ families

  • Psychological support and helplines activated for grieving families

  • Immediate review of air safety protocols

 Tragedy Raises Safety Questions

While investigations are still in the early stages, aviation experts believe a technical malfunction or human error could have led to the crash. The airline has declined to comment pending the inquiry but confirmed that all standard safety checks were conducted before the flight took off.

Possible Factors Under Scrutiny:

  • Engine failure

  • Pilot miscommunication

  • Weather interference

  • ATC coordination lapse

The retrieved black box flight recorder is expected to reveal crucial data in the coming days.

Manisha Thapa was more than just an air hostess—she was a daughter, sister, friend, and role model to many. Her journey from Biratnagar to Patna to the skies reflects the dreams and determination of thousands of young women in the region.

Her untimely death is a reminder of the unpredictable nature of life and the sacrifices made by those working in civil aviation.

Her family has expressed hope that the government will honor her service and ensure that such tragedies are prevented in the future.
