KKN Gurugram Desk | In a tragic road accident in Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, a father and son lost their lives on the morning of June 24, 2025. The incident occurred when a speeding car, coming from Jewar, collided with the two pedestrians near Kalanderghadi village, close to the Junction Road in the Khurja Nagar Kotwali area. Both individuals, who were on their way back to Delhi, tragically succumbed to the injuries sustained in the crash.

Details of the Tragic Accident

The accident took place early in the morning, when the victims, Mahendra Kumar (70 years old) and his 27-year-old son Mohit, were walking on the side of the road, heading back to their home in Delhi. According to local sources, the duo had been living in Kalanderghadi village for the past year. They used to sell fruits by setting up a roadside cart near the village. On this fateful morning, as they walked on the road, a speeding car coming from the Jewar side struck them, resulting in their unfortunate deaths.

Upon hearing the commotion, locals rushed to the site of the accident and immediately informed the police. The police arrived at the scene and took control of the situation. The bodies of the victims were recovered and the family was notified of the tragedy. Local police officials have confirmed that the family members of the deceased have been informed, and further action will be taken once a formal complaint (tehreer) is filed.

Involvement of Local Authorities

The Khurja Nagar Police Station Chief, Rajpal Singh Tomar, provided additional details about the incident. According to the police, there has been no formal complaint filed yet. However, they assured that appropriate legal action would be initiated once the formalities are completed. The incident has sparked a strong emotional response from the local community, as both victims were well-known for their humble and hard-working nature in the area.

The cause of the accident, as per initial investigations, appears to be the speeding of the vehicle, which failed to control in time while approaching the two pedestrians. The driver’s responsibility in this crash will likely be examined by the authorities, along with possible mechanical or other issues with the car.

Background of the Victims

The victims, Mahendra Kumar and Mohit, hailed from Dayalpur, Delhi. They had shifted to Kalanderghadi village in Bulandshahr about a year ago, where they started selling fruits at a roadside stall. It is believed that they were returning to their family home in Delhi when the incident occurred. The father and son had likely planned this trip for their return to Delhi, where their family awaited them. Tragically, they both lost their lives before they could complete their journey.

Residents of the area and neighboring regions expressed their shock and sorrow at the untimely deaths of the two individuals, who were well-liked for their friendly and hardworking nature.

Bulandshahr’s Growing Concerns Over Road Safety

This unfortunate incident has raised concerns about road safety in Bulandshahr, particularly on the busy roads leading through towns and villages like Kalanderghadi. The rising number of accidents involving pedestrians, especially in urban and semi-urban areas, points to the urgent need for improved infrastructure and stricter enforcement of traffic laws.

Authorities need to focus on road signage, speed limit enforcement, and more pedestrian-friendly measures to ensure that people can travel safely. In this case, the speeding car appears to be the main cause, and the lack of adequate pedestrian facilities for people like Mahendra and Mohit also contributed to the tragic outcome.

Driver’s Accountability and Investigation

While the investigation is still ongoing, police are looking into the possibility of whether the driver was speeding or if the vehicle had any technical issues. It is important to note that the family members of the deceased have not yet filed a formal complaint, but local authorities are preparing to move forward with the investigation once this is done. The authorities have promised to ensure that justice is served for the victims.

Similar Accident in Gonda District

In a separate incident, another road accident occurred in Gonda district, where a moring-loaded dumper overturned while reversing. This accident took place in the Mankapur area, specifically at a paan shop, where a young man named Raju Yadav, aged 28, was sitting. The dumper’s driver and the shopkeeper got trapped under the vehicle when it flipped.

Both the driver and the shopkeeper were injured but were fortunately rescued by local people and rushed to the Community Health Center (CHC). The incident highlights the danger posed by heavy vehicles on narrow roads and the lack of safety measures in certain parts of the district.

Efforts to Improve Road Safety

Both of these accidents underline the ongoing issues with road safety in Uttar Pradesh and the surrounding regions. Despite various government measures to improve road infrastructure and reduce traffic-related fatalities, these accidents highlight the need for stricter enforcement of traffic laws and increased public awareness about road safety.

Authorities need to ensure that all roads, especially those used by pedestrians and heavy vehicles, are well-marked with clear signs, speed limits, and proper lighting to ensure the safety of all travelers. Additionally, better traffic management and faster response systems are crucial in handling accidents effectively and preventing further loss of life.

The tragic deaths of Mahendra Kumar and Mohit in Bulandshahr serve as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by speeding vehicles and the lack of proper pedestrian facilities. As the investigation continues, it is crucial for local authorities to ensure that such accidents are prevented in the future. The public, as well as traffic enforcement authorities, must work together to improve road safety in the region.

Road safety is not only about speeding and driving laws but also about ensuring that pedestrians have safe routes to travel and that emergency response systems are swift and efficient. These preventive measures could help avoid future tragedies and save lives, ensuring safer journeys for all.
