KKN Gurugram Desk | A horrific road accident in Bihar’s Ara district claimed six lives on Friday morning. The victims, all devotees, were returning from the Maha Kumbh when their car collided with a stationary truck. The tragic incident occurred on the Mohania-Ara four-lane highway, between Dulhangunj and Isadhi, in Bhojpur’s Jagdishpur area.

High-Speed Collision with a Stationary Truck

According to reports, the accident happened due to a combination of high speed and a parked container truck on the highway. The car, a Baleno, was traveling at high speed when it rammed into the stationary truck. The impact was so severe that the car’s bonnet and engine were completely crushed.

Eyewitnesses suspect that the driver might have dozed off, leading to the collision. The truck driver, however, fled the scene immediately after the accident. Local residents rushed to the spot, attempting to rescue the victims and informing the police.

Victims of the Fatal Crash

All the deceased were from Patna and belonged to the same family. The victims have been identified as:

  • Sanjay Kumar (62), son of Vishnu Dev Prasad
  • Lal Babu Singh (25), son of Sanjay Kumar
  • Karuna Devi (55), wife of Sanjay Kumar
  • Priyam Kumari (20), daughter of Sanjay Kumar
  • Asha Kiran (28), daughter of Anand Singh
  • Juhi Rani (25), daughter of Chandra Bhushan Prasad

The family resided in the Sudamapuri area of New Jakkanpur, Patna.

Police Investigation and Emergency Response

Authorities arrived at the accident site shortly after receiving the alert. The victims’ bodies were sent to Ara Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examinations. Police have seized the wrecked vehicle and launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

The accident led to brief traffic congestion on the highway, but officials managed to restore normal movement soon after the incident.

Frequent Accidents During Maha Kumbh Travel

This is not the first time devotees traveling to or from the Maha Kumbh have met with accidents. Over the years, several fatal road crashes have occurred, involving pilgrims from different states. Many pilgrims from Nepal have also lost their lives in similar incidents.

In this case, initial investigations suggest that overspeeding and driver fatigue played a crucial role. Experts have repeatedly emphasized the need for strict traffic management and regular checks on parked heavy vehicles on highways to prevent such tragedies.

Family’s Grief and Heartbreaking Scenes at Hospital

The news of the accident devastated the victims’ families. When they reached Ara Sadar Hospital, the atmosphere was filled with grief and despair. The sudden loss of an entire family has left the community in shock.

One of the relatives stated that the victims had left for Maha Kumbh in a group and were returning home after completing their holy bath. No one imagined that their journey would end in such a catastrophe.

Need for Road Safety Measures

This tragic accident highlights the urgent need for better road safety regulations. Officials must ensure:

  • Proper highway monitoring to prevent unauthorized parking of heavy vehicles.
  • Stringent speed regulations for both passenger and commercial vehicles.
  • Fatigue management for drivers traveling long distances.
  • Emergency response improvements for quicker medical aid to accident victims.

Previous Incidents During Maha Kumbh

Maha Kumbh attracts millions of devotees from across the country, leading to increased road traffic. Unfortunately, several accidents have been reported over the years:

  • In a similar incident, a car returning from Maha Kumbh collided with a bus on Prayagraj Highway, killing ten people.
  • Another crash involved a group of pilgrims traveling in a van, resulting in multiple fatalities.
  • A tragic train accident killed a mother and her four-month-old baby while they were traveling in a group of 40 devotees.

Such incidents emphasize the need for better travel arrangements for pilgrims and stricter traffic monitoring.

Authorities have expressed their condolences to the grieving families. However, locals are demanding strict action against reckless driving and illegally parked trucks on highways. Many residents argue that poor enforcement of traffic laws continues to put lives at risk.

A local resident shared his concern, stating, “Every year, we see such accidents, but no concrete action is taken. Roads remain unsafe, and authorities need to wake up before more lives are lost.”

This tragic accident in Ara is a stark reminder of the dangers of high-speed travel and unattended parked vehicles on highways. As Maha Kumbh continues, authorities must take urgent steps to prevent further accidents and ensure the safety of returning devotees.
