Severe Cold Wave Persists in Bihar, No Relief Expected Till January 5

Published on

The impact of intense cold weather continues across Bihar due to dense fog and cold northerly winds. Normal life remains affected in several districts, while weather conditions show no immediate signs of improvement. According to the latest assessment, people are unlikely to get relief from the cold wave till January 5. The prevailing conditions have led to a sharp chill during both daytime and nighttime hours.

The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for cold day conditions and dense fog for Wednesday. An orange alert has been issued in 25 districts due to cold day conditions, while a yellow alert has been announced for dense fog in several other areas. The alert indicates that weather conditions may remain severe, especially during early morning and late night hours.

Temperature Likely to Remain Stable for Five Days

Weather officials have indicated that there will be no major change in maximum and minimum temperatures over the next five days. The persistent fog cover and continuous cold winds are preventing any significant rise in temperature. As a result, people are experiencing prolonged cold stress, especially in rural and low-lying regions.

On Wednesday, cold day conditions are expected in 25 districts of the state. In the remaining districts, dense fog combined with westerly winds is likely to keep the atmosphere cold throughout the day and night. Visibility levels may drop sharply during early morning hours, affecting road and rail traffic in many areas.

Cold Day Conditions Observed in Several Districts

On Tuesday, severe cold day conditions were reported in Gaya, Aurangabad, and Nalanda, while cold day conditions prevailed in Dehri. Among all regions, Rajgir recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 7.7 degrees Celsius. The extreme cold has intensified discomfort among residents, particularly elderly people and children.

In the state capital Patna, the minimum temperature was recorded at 12.4 degrees Celsius. Although this temperature is slightly higher compared to other districts, the presence of cold winds made the weather feel much colder. The dense fog further worsened the situation during early morning hours.

Visibility Drops Sharply Due to Dense Fog

Dense fog has significantly reduced visibility in many parts of the state. The lowest visibility was recorded at Valmiki Nagar, where it dropped to just 700 meters. Such low visibility conditions pose serious challenges for commuters, especially on highways and railway tracks.

Drivers have been advised to exercise caution during early morning travel. The fog is expected to persist over the next few days, particularly in northern and central Bihar. Weather experts suggest avoiding unnecessary travel during foggy hours to reduce the risk of accidents.

Brief Sunshine Brings Limited Relief

Residents in Patna and nearby areas experienced brief relief on Tuesday as sunlight appeared during the daytime. The sunshine helped ease the biting cold for a short period. However, the relief was temporary, as temperatures dropped again after sunset.

Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 16.9 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. The temperature difference between the maximum and minimum in the city was 4.5 degrees Celsius. Despite the daytime warmth, cold winds continued to dominate, keeping overall conditions uncomfortable.

Shekhpura and Rajgir Record Highest Maximum Temperature

Shekhpura and Rajgir recorded the highest maximum temperature in the state at 19.0 degrees Celsius on Tuesday. These areas benefited from clearer skies during the daytime. However, nights remained cold due to falling temperatures and persistent chilly winds.

A rise in maximum temperature was recorded in 14 districts, including Patna. Across the state, maximum temperatures ranged between 13.5 degrees Celsius and 17.7 degrees Celsius. Despite slight variations, overall cold conditions continued to grip the region.

Major Cities Witness Fluctuating Temperatures

Several major cities across Bihar experienced fluctuating temperature patterns. While daytime temperatures showed a marginal rise in some areas, nighttime cold remained intense. Gaya recorded a maximum temperature of 18.5 degrees Celsius, while its minimum dropped to 7.8 degrees Celsius, highlighting sharp temperature variation.

Bhagalpur recorded a maximum temperature of 15.0 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 12.0 degrees Celsius. In Muzaffarpur, the maximum temperature stood at 13.2 degrees Celsius, while the minimum was recorded at 12.2 degrees Celsius. These figures indicate that cold conditions are widespread and persistent across the state.

Health and Daily Life Affected by Cold Spell

The ongoing cold wave has started affecting daily routines across Bihar. Morning walks have reduced, schools are witnessing lower attendance, and outdoor work has slowed down significantly. Hospitals have reported an increase in patients suffering from cold-related ailments, including cough, fever, and breathing difficulties.

Experts advise people to stay indoors during early morning and late night hours. Adequate warm clothing and proper nutrition are being recommended to cope with the harsh weather conditions. The administration has also urged people to remain cautious during foggy conditions.

Weather experts have made it clear that the current cold spell is likely to continue for several more days. With no significant change expected in temperature patterns, residents should prepare for prolonged cold conditions. Dense fog, cold winds, and low visibility are expected to remain dominant features of Bihar’s winter weather until at least January 5.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely while issuing regular advisories. Until weather conditions improve, residents across Bihar are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this intense winter phase.
