Bihar Weather Update : Dense Fog and Cold Day Alert Issued for Several Districts

Published on

The cold wave continues to grip Bihar, with dense fog persisting across multiple districts today. Due to the adverse weather conditions, numerous trains have been delayed, further impacting travel across the state. The weather department has issued a cold day alert for the Magadh region, urging people to take necessary precautions.

Persistent Cold and Fog Affecting Multiple Districts

Bihar has yet to experience relief from the ongoing cold conditions. The chill has been steadily increasing, and the difference between day and night temperatures has been narrowing. Several districts, including Aurangabad, Jehanabad, Patna, Nalanda, Banka, and Saran, are currently under thick fog. These weather conditions have caused disruptions in road, rail, and air transport. Major trains, including the Patna-bound Rajdhani Express, Sampoorna Kranti Express, Patna-Kota Express, Danapur Intercity, Mahananda Express, Farakka, and Kumbh Express, have arrived late due to reduced visibility.

In addition to the train delays, two flights were also canceled in the last 24 hours due to the weather. Given the worsening conditions, schools up to the eighth grade in districts like Gopalganj, Araria, Siwan, Saran, Bhojpur, and Sitamarhi have been closed today to ensure the safety of students.

Weather Outlook for the Next Few Days

According to the Meteorological Center, the weather will remain similar over the next four days. The minimum temperature may drop by up to three degrees, affecting daily life. In Patna, for example, the temperature difference between the day and night will be a mere three degrees Celsius on December 22. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 16°C, with the minimum temperature falling to 13°C.

Additionally, from December 25 to 26, there is a forecast for a further dip in the minimum temperature, potentially reaching as low as 11°C. This ongoing cold wave, coupled with foggy conditions, will continue to have a significant impact on the region’s daily activities.

Cold Day and Fog Alerts Across Bihar

The weather department has indicated that Bihar will experience dry conditions over the next seven days. However, certain areas in western and central Bihar may witness cold day-like conditions on December 22. Meanwhile, districts like Gaya and southwestern Bihar are likely to experience dense fog. Cold day conditions are predicted for Gaya, Nalanda, Arwal, and Jehanabad, while areas in the northwestern districts, such as Sitamarhi and Shivhar, are also expected to be engulfed by thick fog.

On December 23, dense fog is expected to persist in a few locations across north and southwestern Bihar. The weather forecast suggests a further decrease in minimum temperatures over the next three to five days, with the cold and foggy conditions continuing to affect the region.

Temperature Variations Across Bihar

In the last 24 hours, the weather remained dry throughout the state. The maximum temperature ranged between 15.0°C and 22.6°C, with Kishanganj recording the highest temperature of 22.6°C. The minimum temperature varied between 8.0°C and 14.1°C, with the lowest temperature recorded in Gaya at 8.0°C. Western and central districts experienced a decline in minimum temperatures by three to five degrees Celsius, while other regions saw little to no change in temperature.

During this period, no rainfall was reported, but fog affected visibility significantly. In Gaya, visibility was recorded at just 50 meters due to the dense fog, creating challenging conditions for both commuters and travelers.

Impact of Fog and Cold Weather on Daily Life

As Bihar continues to experience severe cold and fog, authorities are urging residents to take necessary precautions. The combination of dense fog and dropping temperatures poses risks, especially for travelers. Reduced visibility is a major concern, particularly on the roads and in railways, where delays and cancellations are becoming increasingly common. In addition, the cold weather can lead to health problems, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, the elderly, and those with pre-existing health conditions.

Residents are advised to wear warm clothing and limit outdoor activities during early mornings and late evenings when the fog is thickest. People are also advised to stay updated on weather alerts and plan their travel accordingly to avoid unnecessary delays or disruptions.

The ongoing cold wave and dense fog in Bihar are expected to continue for the next few days. The situation will likely worsen, with temperatures expected to drop further and fog likely to persist, especially in the morning and evening hours. Travelers should stay informed about the latest updates on train schedules and flights. As always, safety should be the top priority, and people must take the necessary steps to stay warm and avoid travel during hazardous conditions.
