Bihar Weather Update : Cold to Set In After Three Days, Temperatures Drop Across Multiple Districts

Published on

The weather in Bihar is gradually changing, and a significant shift is expected in the coming days. According to the latest forecast from the Meteorological Department, dry conditions will persist for the next three days. However, after this period, the cold weather is expected to show its true form. The department has issued a warning that due to the influence of westerly winds and the ongoing La Niña effect, the minimum temperature in November could drop below 10°C. This sudden drop in temperature will make it essential for residents, particularly children and the elderly, to take extra precautions. Additionally, the likelihood of fog settling on the roads will require drivers to remain cautious while traveling.

Temperature Trends in Bihar: Rising Maximum and Dropping Minimum

On Tuesday, November 18, the maximum temperature saw an increase across 20 districts, including Patna. The city of Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 27.8°C, while Purnia, the hottest region, recorded a high of 31.4°C. Despite the dry weather during the day, there was a noticeable chill in the air during the morning and evening hours. The northern districts experienced moderate fog, with visibility in Purnia dropping to a mere 1000 meters. This change in weather signals the onset of cooler conditions that will soon be felt across the state.

La Niña and Its Impact on Bihar’s Winter

The Meteorological Center in Patna has indicated that a low-pressure area will form over the southeastern Bay of Bengal around November 22. This system is expected to move northwest, bringing an abrupt change in the weather. However, the maximum temperature is expected to remain steady for the next few days. Despite this, the impact of La Niña is expected to extend Bihar’s winter season this year, with cold conditions lasting 15 to 20 days longer than usual. The chilly period is likely to stretch from December to the end of February, with cold waves intensifying during these months.

Increased Risk of Pollution and Health Precautions

With the increasing cold, the pollution levels in Bihar are expected to rise as well. This could pose a significant health risk, particularly for those with respiratory issues. Experts advise residents to wear masks when stepping outside and to limit outdoor activities, especially during the morning and evening when the air quality tends to be at its worst. The thick fog could also exacerbate pollution levels, making it harder for people to breathe clean air.

The Need for Caution on Roads

As temperatures drop, foggy conditions will likely disrupt visibility on the roads, particularly in the early mornings and late evenings. Motorists should remain alert and take extra care when driving in these conditions. Reduced visibility due to fog could lead to accidents if proper precautions are not taken. The authorities have urged drivers to avoid high speeds and to keep headlights on during low-visibility hours.

As Bihar braces for a drop in temperatures and the arrival of winter, residents are advised to prepare for colder days ahead. The impact of La Niña will make this winter slightly longer than usual, with the possibility of cold spells continuing into February. The coming days will bring a mix of moderate fog, dry weather, and a steady decrease in temperatures. As the region transitions from mild conditions to a more intense cold, safety measures for both health and road conditions must be observed.

With the weather change, both environmental and health-related precautions are essential to ensure the well-being of the people in Bihar. The shift in weather is expected to bring challenges, but with proper preparation, the effects can be managed.

This comprehensive weather update provides residents with a clear understanding of what to expect and how to stay safe during the coming cold wave.
