Bihar Police Recruitment Protest in Patna: Candidates Face Lathi Charge During Demonstration

Published on

Bihar Police aspirants created chaos in Patna on Monday as protests intensified over recruitment demands. Thousands of candidates gathered to march towards the Chief Minister’s residence. The demonstration quickly turned violent as police used lathi charge at Dakbungalow Chowk to disperse the crowd.

The agitation was fueled by frustration among candidates waiting for Sub-Inspector and constable recruitment notifications. With no vacancies announced in two years, anger spilled onto the streets of the capital.

Candidates March Towards CM House

The protest began from Patna College, where aspirants carrying the national flag assembled in large numbers. From there, they marched through JP Golambar, breaking barricades erected to block their path. Their chants against the government echoed across the busy streets.

The crowd, determined to reach the Chief Minister’s residence, grew stronger with each step. When they reached Dakbungalow Chowk, security forces responded with lathi charge to control the swelling protest.

Police Action at Dakbungalow Chowk

As protesters breached barricades near Kotwali police station, police swung into action. Lathi charge was used to disperse the large group. The sudden action left several candidates injured. Reports confirmed that a woman aspirant sustained a fractured leg, while many others were hurt during the scuffle.

Candidates shouted slogans, refusing to retreat. Some cried out that they would rather face death than abandon the protest.

Detention of Protest Leaders

The protest saw its leaders facing police intervention. Teacher and activist Roshan Anand, who was guiding the protest, was detained and forced into a police vehicle. His detention triggered another wave of resistance.

Aspirants surrounded the police vehicle and sat on the road in defiance. The standoff forced police to release Roshan Anand shortly after, highlighting the intensity of the protest.

Aspirants’ Key Demands

The candidates have been raising concerns for months about pending police recruitments. Their main demands include:

  • Immediate release of vacancies for Sub-Inspector posts, pending for two years.

  • Transparency in constable recruitment examinations with OMR sheet copies, question papers, and answer keys.

  • Assurance of a fair and impartial recruitment process.

The lack of recruitment has left thousands of candidates anxious about their future. Their demands reflect not only career aspirations but also a fight for transparency and fairness in the system.

Growing Anger Among Youth

The agitation in Patna highlights growing frustration among Bihar’s unemployed youth. Police jobs are among the most sought-after positions due to job security and social respect. With delays and perceived irregularities, the trust between the government and youth seems strained.

The protest is not an isolated incident. Similar demonstrations have erupted in other districts of Bihar, reflecting widespread discontent. Monday’s incident in Patna, however, drew national attention due to the scale and intensity.

Government’s Response and Next Steps

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement addressing the demands of the protesters. However, the aggressive response at Dakbungalow Chowk raised questions about the handling of peaceful demonstrations.

Observers believe that ignoring the demands could fuel further unrest. Experts suggest that announcing a clear timeline for recruitment and ensuring transparency in exams could restore confidence among aspirants.

Social Media Reaction

Videos of the lathi charge and injured aspirants circulated widely on social media. Public opinion was divided, with many criticizing the government for ignoring youth concerns. Others highlighted the need for maintaining law and order during large protests.

The hashtag #BiharPoliceRecruitment trended throughout the day, as candidates and their families voiced anger and disappointment.

Impact on Law and Order

The protest disrupted traffic across central Patna for hours. Areas around Dakbungalow Chowk, JP Golambar, and Kotwali police station witnessed chaos as vehicles remained stranded.

Local businesses were also affected, with shops shutting down temporarily due to safety concerns. The administration had to deploy additional forces to restore calm.

The Larger Issue of Unemployment in Bihar

The protest underscores a bigger issue—unemployment among educated youth in Bihar. Police jobs offer stability, but the absence of regular recruitment drives has intensified the crisis.

Aspirants argue that delays in recruitment not only waste their preparation years but also diminish their chances of securing jobs due to age restrictions.

The Bihar Police recruitment protest in Patna on September 15, 2025, reflected the desperation of thousands of aspirants. Their demand for Sub-Inspector vacancies, fair constable recruitment, and transparent procedures is more than justified.

The lathi charge and injuries have only added to the anger. Unless authorities respond promptly, such protests may become more frequent and intense.

For Bihar, ensuring fair recruitment is not just about filling police posts—it is about restoring faith among youth who see government jobs as their future. The state must act decisively to balance law and order with genuine employment needs.
