Patna Metro: Daily Operations to Begin Soon, Commuters to Travel 14 Hours a Day

Published on

The long wait for the Patna Metro is finally nearing its end. The metro system, designed to modernize transportation in Bihar’s capital, will soon be available for daily use. According to officials from the Patna Metro Rail Corporation (PMRC), the metro trains will operate every day for 14 hours, covering select routes initially and expanding further in the coming months.

Daily Metro Service from Pataliputra Bus Terminal to Bhoothnath

In the first phase, Patna Metro will run between Pataliputra Bus Terminal and Bhoothnath station. The daily service will operate from 8 AM to 10 PM, offering commuters an accessible and reliable travel option for 14 hours each day.

Officials have confirmed that completing one full trip on this route will take around 20 minutes. At present, a trial run is being conducted on this corridor, which started last Sunday. This trial includes safety checks, system integration, and performance testing of elevated tracks.

Trials and Safety Inspections Completed

During the ongoing trial phase, multiple technical verifications have been successfully completed. These include elevated track testing, track stability checks, verification of power supply, and integration of signaling systems.

The final phase of technical inspections is also underway. Authorities have stated that by November, metro services will be extended up to Malahi Pakri station. Since construction work near Khemnichak station is incomplete, the initial decision is to operate the train from the depot to Bhoothnath.

Metro Coaches and Bihar’s Cultural Identity

The Patna Metro trains are expected to have three coaches and will run on the down lane. Interestingly, the blue-colored trains originally brought from Pune have been repainted in saffron (gerua).

To reflect Bihar’s heritage, the coaches have been adorned with artistic depictions of significant landmarks such as Golghar, Mahavir Mandir, and Mahatma Buddha. These designs not only beautify the metro coaches but also highlight the state’s rich cultural identity.

Metro Operations Expected by End of September

Officials have hinted that the official inauguration of the Patna Metro may take place by the end of September. Efforts are being made to dedicate the service to the public before the Durga Puja festival.

To ensure smooth functioning, passenger facilities are being finalized at major stations including Pataliputra Bus Terminal, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath. Work on access routes, parking spaces, and other essential amenities is in progress to provide commuters with a seamless experience.

Expansion of Services in the Next Phase

By November, operations will be extended to five stations, including Malahi Pakri, as infrastructure work progresses. Authorities have emphasized that the metro will gradually expand to cover more areas of Patna, significantly easing congestion and providing modern public transport to the growing population.

Significance of the Patna Metro Project

The Patna Metro Project is considered one of the most ambitious urban development projects in Bihar. Once operational, it will not only reduce traffic congestion but also improve air quality by cutting down vehicle emissions.

For daily commuters, especially office workers and students, the metro promises a faster, safer, and more comfortable travel alternative compared to traditional road transport.

The Patna Metro launch marks a milestone in Bihar’s infrastructure development. With services beginning soon between Pataliputra Bus Terminal and Bhoothnath, residents will finally experience a modern urban transport system.

Running for 14 hours daily, the metro will provide timely and efficient connectivity across the city. By November, the expansion to more stations will further boost accessibility. With cultural designs, safety checks, and passenger facilities in place, the Patna Metro is set to become a symbol of progress and modernity for the capital city.
