Kanya Utthan Yojana: Muzaffarpur Graduate Students Asked to Reapply with Mobile Number

Published on

In Muzaffarpur, graduate students seeking benefits under the Kanya Utthan Yojana will now have to reapply with their mobile numbers. The Directorate has introduced changes in the application format, making it mandatory for applicants to submit additional details. This has led to confusion and inconvenience for many students, as they had already submitted their documents earlier.

Change in Application Format

Until now, students could apply for the scheme without providing a mobile number. However, the new directive requires them to resubmit applications along with essential documents, including the registration slip, graduation part-three mark sheet, Aadhaar card, and a valid mobile number. Even those who had already applied earlier must now reapply under the revised format.

The Directorate has clarified that mobile numbers will be linked to each student’s record through the university login system. This updated mobile number will also be used for future login and verification purposes when accessing scheme benefits.

Rush at University for Information

The sudden change has caused significant trouble for students. On Friday, hundreds of students gathered at the university campus to seek clarification about the reapplication process. Many of them had already submitted documents in earlier rounds and were surprised to learn that fresh applications would be required.

Students were informed that the revised guidelines were issued directly by the Directorate, leaving the university with no option but to implement them. Consequently, those who had already submitted applications without mobile numbers must now prepare and resubmit documents again.

Issues Faced by Students

Several students expressed frustration over the additional process. Zubaida, a student from Sitamarhi, explained that even after submitting her application earlier, her father’s name was shown as mismatched in the records. She brought her documents to the university to rectify the error but was told that she must reapply with updated details, including her mobile number.

Similar complaints of spelling mistakes, mismatched names, and errors in application records were reported. Many students and their guardians spent hours at the university office, trying to understand the new process and ensure their applications were correctly resubmitted.

Large Number of Students Affected

The university confirmed that nearly one lakh graduate students will be affected by this change. This includes students from four different sessions: 2018-21, 2019-22, 2020-23, and 2021-24.

It has also been reported that a large number of errors were found in applications from the 2018-21 and 2019-22 sessions. These errors ranged from incorrect parental details to spelling mistakes in names. The reapplication process aims to correct such mistakes while ensuring that every application has a verified mobile number for communication.

Importance of Mobile Number in Applications

Officials explained that linking mobile numbers is crucial for the transparent and efficient functioning of the Kanya Utthan Yojana. With mobile numbers updated in the records, students will be able to log in easily while applying for benefits. It also ensures that notifications, approvals, and updates regarding the scheme can be communicated directly to beneficiaries.

By enforcing this requirement, the Directorate aims to eliminate errors in documentation and ensure that funds are distributed without delay. However, in the short term, students must bear the inconvenience of submitting their documents again.

Students and Parents Concerned

For many families, the reapplication process has added stress. Parents who had already helped their daughters prepare applications now have to repeat the process. Students fear delays in receiving financial benefits under the scheme, as fresh verification and updates will take time.

Despite the inconvenience, most students acknowledged that linking mobile numbers could prevent further issues in the future. Direct communication between authorities and beneficiaries may reduce errors, mismatches, and delays.

University’s Role in Implementation

University officials are now tasked with updating records and verifying mobile numbers for nearly one lakh students. Each application will require login through the updated system, making it a time-consuming exercise for the administration.

The authorities assured students that they are working to streamline the process. However, they also emphasized that they have no choice but to follow the directives issued by the Directorate.

The reapplication requirement under the Kanya Utthan Yojana has sparked inconvenience for thousands of graduate students in Muzaffarpur. By making mobile numbers mandatory, the Directorate aims to improve accuracy and efficiency in application records. While the move may cause short-term difficulties, it is expected to ensure smoother processing of benefits in the long run.

For now, students from sessions 2018-21, 2019-22, 2020-23, and 2021-24 must gather their registration slips, graduation mark sheets, Aadhaar cards, and mobile numbers to reapply. With nearly one lakh students affected, the process may take time, but officials insist that the new system will ultimately benefit everyone.
