Bihar Weather Today: Heavy Rain, Thunder, and Storm Alert in Several Districts

Published on

The weather in Bihar remains unstable as the monsoon continues its active phase. The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh alert for several districts, warning of heavy rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds. Residents in southern and northern regions of the state have been advised to stay cautious as the weather conditions are expected to remain severe for the next few days.

Heavy Rain Alert in Nine Districts

The Meteorological Department has placed nine districts under a rain alert today. These include Gaya, Aurangabad, Saran, Bhojpur, Siwan, Arwal, Rohtas, and Kaimur. The department has predicted that these regions will receive intense rainfall during the day. Along with rainfall, the forecast also includes the possibility of thunderstorms and lightning strikes, creating risks for people living in rural and semi-urban areas.

Strong Winds Predicted in South Bihar

The active monsoon system is moving towards the southern districts of Bihar. Meteorologists have predicted that winds with speeds ranging between 30 to 40 kilometers per hour will affect these regions. Thunder and lightning activity are also likely during this period. The weather department has highlighted that the monsoon’s impact will be stronger in South Bihar as compared to the northern districts.

Stable Temperature Trend for Three Days

Despite the heavy rainfall alert, the overall temperature across Bihar is expected to remain stable. Weather experts have stated that no major fluctuation in temperature will be seen for the next three days. This means the maximum and minimum temperatures will remain close to the current average levels, without sudden rises or drops.

Rainfall Recorded on August 23

The impact of the monsoon was clearly visible on August 23 across the state. Several districts, including the capital Patna, experienced light to moderate rainfall throughout the day. Due to consistent rainfall, both the maximum and minimum temperatures witnessed a significant fall.

In Jehanabad, rainfall of 15.5 millimeters was recorded, which was the highest for the day. Begusarai registered the maximum temperature at 34.5 degrees Celsius, while Valmiki Nagar recorded the lowest temperature of 24.2 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, Buxar experienced strong winds moving at 30 to 40 kilometers per hour.

Patna Witnessed Cloudy Skies and Rain

Patna remained under a blanket of clouds from early morning on August 23. Several parts of the city witnessed continuous rainfall, bringing relief from the rising humidity. A total of 25 millimeters of rainfall was recorded in the capital.

This rainfall resulted in a fall of 2 degrees Celsius in maximum temperature and 2.3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperature. The weather department has predicted that cloudy skies will continue to cover Patna today as well. Residents should be prepared for another round of heavy showers during the day.

South Bihar Under the Strong Grip of Monsoon

The monsoon system is showing greater activity in the southern part of Bihar. Districts like Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas, and Kaimur are expected to receive consistent heavy showers. The Meteorological Department has warned of possible waterlogging in low-lying areas, damage to standing crops, and disruptions in road transport due to intense rainfall. Farmers have been asked to take necessary precautions to protect their fields and harvests from water accumulation.

Thunder and Lightning Poses Risks

One of the major concerns with the current weather pattern is the high possibility of lightning strikes. The Meteorological Department has clearly mentioned the risk of thunder and lightning across many districts. Residents have been advised not to take shelter under trees during storms and to stay indoors during lightning activity. Past years have seen several incidents of casualties due to lightning strikes in Bihar, making this alert highly significant.

Impact on Daily Life in Bihar

The continuous spell of rain has already started affecting daily life in many cities and villages. In Patna, roads have witnessed waterlogging in several areas, slowing down traffic movement. Local markets have also been impacted as fewer people are stepping out during heavy showers. In rural regions, schools and local offices are facing attendance issues as people remain indoors due to unpredictable weather conditions.

Predictions for the Coming Days

Meteorologists believe that the monsoon will remain active over Bihar for the next three to four days. Light to moderate rainfall is expected in most parts of the state, while southern districts will continue to experience heavy showers. Cloudy skies and occasional thunder are also likely in central regions, including Patna, Nalanda, and nearby districts.

Temperature Variation Across Districts

The recent rainfall has brought some relief from the humid weather. However, variations in temperature are being observed across the state. While Begusarai continues to report high maximum temperatures, areas like Valmiki Nagar remain cooler due to consistent rainfall. Such variations highlight the uneven distribution of rainfall during the monsoon season.

Weather Department’s Safety Guidelines

The Meteorological Department has issued safety guidelines for residents to minimize the risks caused by heavy rainfall and lightning. People have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during storm alerts. Farmers are encouraged to drain excess water from agricultural fields to protect crops. Households are being asked to keep electrical equipment unplugged during thunderstorms to prevent damage.

Monsoon’s Economic Impact on Bihar

The ongoing rainfall has a direct impact on Bihar’s agriculture-based economy. While farmers welcome the rain for paddy cultivation, excessive showers create risks of crop damage. Waterlogging can harm standing crops in districts where drainage systems are poor. On the other hand, sufficient rainfall is crucial for irrigation in areas dependent on monsoon water. This balance between benefit and risk is shaping the current agricultural outlook in the state.

Transport and Connectivity Issues

Heavy rainfall has also raised concerns about transport and connectivity in several districts. Waterlogging on highways and village roads is leading to traffic disruptions. Railways are on alert as tracks in flood-prone areas can be affected by heavy downpours. Air travel in Patna is also expected to face occasional delays due to poor visibility during storms.

Residents Urged to Remain Alert

Authorities have urged residents of the affected districts to remain cautious. Disaster management teams have been kept on standby to respond to emergencies caused by flooding or storm damage. Local administrations have also been asked to monitor water levels in rivers and drainage canals to prevent sudden flooding in low-lying areas.

Patna is likely to see cloudy skies and rainfall over the next three days. The maximum temperature is expected to remain below 34 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will hover around 25 degrees Celsius. The city will continue to experience cool winds, bringing some relief from humidity but also raising concerns about waterlogging in several residential and commercial zones.

The weather situation in Bihar highlights the intensity of the ongoing monsoon season. With nine districts under a heavy rainfall alert, residents must take precautions to ensure safety. Strong winds, thunder, and lightning add to the risks, while stable temperatures provide limited relief. The coming days will be crucial for farmers, city residents, and the state administration as they deal with the impact of continuous rainfall and prepare for more showers.
