Bihar Weather Today: Heavy Rain Alert in 20 Districts as Monsoon Becomes Active Again

Published on

The monsoon in Bihar has become active again, and the next seven days are likely to bring heavy rainfall across several districts. According to the India Meteorological Department in Patna, an orange alert has been issued in 20 districts for the coming hours. Residents are advised to remain cautious as the weather takes a dramatic turn.

Monsoon Returns with Heavy Rainfall

Late Tuesday evening marked a major shift in the weather of Bihar. After a hot and dry day, several regions including Patna, Purnia, Bhagalpur, Vaishali, Bhojpur and Jehanabad witnessed sudden heavy downpours accompanied by strong winds. The rains provided relief from the intense humidity and heat that had troubled people during the day.

Meteorologists have confirmed that the monsoon has regained strength over the state. For the next seven days, Bihar may experience heavy to extremely heavy rainfall. The effect will be most severe in the southern districts, but northern areas are also expected to witness significant rainfall. The active monsoon is now shaping the weather patterns across Bihar.

IMD Issues Orange Alert

The IMD has warned that 20 districts could face heavy showers with thunderstorms and strong winds. An orange alert has been issued for these regions to ensure preparedness. The forecast predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall, and officials have urged people to remain indoors during intense spells.

According to the weather department, rainfall activity has already begun from today and will continue for several days. District administrations are on alert, and disaster management teams are monitoring the situation closely.

Districts Under Rain Alert

The IMD has reported that on August 20, Purnia and Kishanganj will witness heavy rainfall. Patna, Gaya, Bhagalpur, Begusarai, Jamui and 17 nearby districts are expected to receive torrential showers. Along with rainfall, thunderstorms and strong winds are also predicted. The orange alert in these 20 districts highlights the seriousness of the situation and the possible risks of flooding and waterlogging.

Seven Days of Heavy Rainfall Predicted

The next seven days could bring challenging conditions across Bihar. The weather department has warned that heavy rainfall will continue almost every day. Officials from the disaster management department have appealed to citizens to remain alert and follow safety guidelines. The department has also activated its control room to monitor the weather and provide timely updates.

The rainfall pattern from August 21 to August 25 has been detailed by the IMD. Each day different districts will experience heavy to very heavy showers, creating the possibility of disruption in normal life.

Rain Forecast for August 21

On August 21, Bhagalpur, Rohtas, Banka, Purnia and Katihar are expected to face heavy rainfall. Other districts will receive moderate to intense showers.

Rain Forecast for August 22

On August 22, Rohtas, Nalanda, Sheikhpura and Munger will experience extremely heavy rainfall. At the same time, Begusarai, Banka, Jamui, Nawada, Lakhisarai, Gaya, Jehanabad, Patna and Aurangabad are likely to witness heavy showers. Torrential rain is also expected in the remaining districts.

Rain Forecast for August 23

On August 23, Patna, Bhojpur and Buxar will see extremely heavy rainfall. Vaishali, Samastipur, Nawada, Jehanabad, Arwal, Gaya, Aurangabad, Rohtas and Kaimur are also predicted to face heavy rain. The remaining districts will continue to experience moderate to heavy showers.

Rain Forecast for August 24

On August 24, Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Aurangabad, Arwal and Jehanabad will face heavy rainfall. Other regions are likely to experience consistent rainfall throughout the day.

Rain Forecast for August 25

On August 25, Nawada, Jamui, Banka and Bhagalpur will see heavy rainfall. Southern Bihar districts will continue receiving intense rainfall, while northern Bihar is predicted to have light showers.

Risks of Floods and Waterlogging

Continuous heavy rainfall for several days increases the risk of floods in rivers and waterlogging in low-lying areas. District administrations are preparing to tackle emergencies by deploying rescue teams and alerting residents. Urban areas like Patna, Bhagalpur and Muzaffarpur often face waterlogging after heavy rain, and authorities are focusing on preventive measures.

Experts have advised people to stay away from waterlogged streets, avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms, and keep emergency supplies ready at home.

Relief from Heat but Rising Concerns

While the rain has provided relief from extreme heat, the continuous showers may cause new challenges. Farmers are expecting benefits for their crops, but excessive rain could also damage fields in some areas. The double-edged nature of monsoon rains often brings both relief and concern to the people of Bihar.

Temperature and Air Quality Index in Major Cities

Along with rainfall, the IMD has released data about maximum and minimum temperatures and AQI in key cities.

Patna recorded a maximum of 34.3 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 28 degrees, with an AQI of 59. Muzaffarpur reported 33.2 degrees Celsius as maximum and 27.3 degrees as minimum with AQI 58. Gaya had 32.2 degrees Celsius maximum and 26 degrees minimum with AQI 26. Purnia recorded 34 degrees Celsius maximum, 26.3 degrees minimum and AQI 80. Bhagalpur reported 33.5 degrees Celsius maximum, 27.2 degrees minimum and AQI 64.

The data shows that although temperatures are still high, rainfall is steadily reducing the heat. AQI levels are within a satisfactory range in most cities, except Purnia, where air quality remains higher than desirable.

IMD Advises People to Stay Cautious

The IMD has warned that heavy rainfall in multiple districts may create flood-like situations. People are advised to avoid unnecessary movement and to stay indoors during thunderstorms. Farmers have been asked to protect their crops, while city residents are urged to keep drainage systems clear to avoid waterlogging.

Disaster management officials continue to track rainfall across all districts and coordinate with local administrations. Continuous communication between departments is ensuring timely updates and alerts for the people of Bihar.

Bihar Monsoon: A Time of Opportunities and Challenges

The return of active monsoon has revived the agricultural landscape of Bihar. Farmers rely heavily on rains for paddy cultivation, and consistent showers are necessary for the current cropping season. However, extremely heavy rainfall brings the threat of crop damage and soil erosion.

In urban regions, rain brings relief from heat but causes waterlogging and traffic disruptions. The balance between relief and challenges continues throughout the monsoon season in Bihar.

The next seven days are going to be crucial for Bihar as the state braces for heavy to very heavy rainfall. With 20 districts under orange alert, officials and residents must stay prepared for emergencies. The monsoon has provided relief from scorching heat but also carries risks of floods, landslides, waterlogging and crop damage.

The IMD and disaster management departments are on high alert, continuously monitoring the situation and issuing updates. Citizens are advised to remain indoors during thunderstorms, avoid flooded areas and follow safety advisories. The coming days will test the resilience of Bihar as heavy monsoon showers continue to shape daily life across the state.
