Rajasthan Weather Update: Torrential Rain Causes Flooding, IMD Issues Red Alert in 9 Districts

Published on

Several parts of Rajasthan are grappling with intense monsoon rains. Continuous rainfall since early Monday morning has caused widespread flooding, property damage, and tragic accidents. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Red Alert for nine districts, warning of extremely heavy rainfall in the next 48 hours.

Pali District Hit by Flash Flooding

In Pali district, heavy downpour began around 3 a.m. Roads were transformed into streams, and water entered houses in low-lying areas. The heavy rain disrupted transportation and caused panic among residents. Many were forced to shift belongings to higher ground as water levels kept rising.

According to district officials, rescue teams are on standby. Local authorities have advised citizens to remain indoors and avoid waterlogged routes. Water has entered several homes, and drainage systems in many areas have collapsed under pressure.

Nine Rajasthan Districts on Red Alert

The IMD has placed nine districts under Red Alert for July 14 and 15. These include Bhilwara, Bundi, Tonk, Baran, Jhalawar, Ajmer, Jodhpur, Banswara, and Jalore. Meanwhile, an Orange Alert has been issued for nine more districts, while the rest of the state is under a Yellow Alert.

Meteorologists have warned of localized flooding, landslides in hilly areas, and damage to crops and infrastructure. Schools in affected regions have been advised to remain shut.

Low-Pressure System and Cyclonic Circulation Behind Rains

Experts at the IMD Jaipur center attribute the heavy rain to a low-pressure system over eastern Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is active over Rajasthan. These systems are fueling strong monsoon activity across the state.

The monsoon trough line is also moving close to its normal position. This has intensified rainfall, especially in southern and central parts of the state.

Rainfall Data: Cities Submerged

Over the past 24 hours, many districts recorded significant rainfall. Baran’s Shahabad recorded the highest at 131 mm. Other rainfall measurements include:

  • Kota: 63.8 mm

  • Ajmer: 50 mm

  • Nasirabad: 44 mm

  • Pali (Desuri): 92 mm

  • Rohat: 53 mm

  • Raipur: 64 mm

  • Nagaur (Riyanbadi): 47 mm

  • Dausa (Bhandarej): 42 mm

  • Bhilwara (Kareda): 66 mm

  • Shahpura: 44 mm

  • Bundi: 75 mm

  • Churu (Sujangarh): 68 mm

  • Jhalawar (Sundel): 55 mm

  • Sawai Madhopur (Chauth Ka Barwara): 46 mm

  • Tonk (Doonee): 47 mm

These figures highlight the widespread impact of the monsoon surge.

Fatal Accidents Across Districts

Sadly, the extreme weather has led to loss of life. In Bhilwara, two cousins drowned in a flooded stream. In Rajsamand, a brother and sister died after falling into a water-filled pond. In Beawar, a child slipped and fell face-down in thick mud, resulting in death.

In Jodhpur, a house wall collapsed, injuring several people. A similar incident occurred in Pali where two children and a woman were injured. Structural collapses due to waterlogging remain a serious concern.

Ajmer Railway Station Waterlogged

Ajmer, one of the state’s major transport hubs, also felt the monsoon’s impact. Torrential rain left the Ajmer Railway Station partially flooded. Passengers faced major inconvenience, with many trains delayed. Authorities have started water removal efforts.

Rajasthan Rain Alert: Next 48 Hours Critical

IMD Director Radheyshyam Sharma has confirmed that heavy rainfall will likely continue for the next two days. The systems causing the rain are stable, and the monsoon trough will remain active. The alert level for many districts may be upgraded if rainfall intensity increases.

Administration on High Alert

The Rajasthan government has issued instructions to district collectors for emergency response. Relief camps are being set up in flood-affected regions. Disaster response teams are ready with boats, pumps, and medical kits. Special attention is being given to vulnerable villages.

Residents have been asked not to cross water-logged roads or enter flooded houses. Schools in areas under Red Alert and Orange Alert are advised to conduct online classes or remain closed until conditions improve.

Traffic and Travel Disruption

Many roads in central and southern Rajasthan are under water. State transport buses have been delayed or rerouted. In Pali, local transport has come to a halt due to flooding. Travelers have been advised to check updates before planning journeys.

Railway officials have warned of delays in several trains. Passengers traveling through Ajmer, Bhilwara, and Kota are likely to face schedule changes.

Urban Areas Under Stress

Cities like Jaipur, Udaipur, and Jodhpur have reported waterlogging in multiple neighborhoods. In Jaipur, the municipal corporation has received over 300 water-logging complaints in just 24 hours. Emergency services are working round the clock to restore normalcy.

Experts have also warned of possible health issues following stagnant water accumulation. Residents are urged to drink boiled water and avoid wading through dirty floodwaters.

Looking Ahead: Monsoon to Stay Active

Weather experts believe that the Rajasthan Monsoon 2025 will remain strong through the month. The current systems are expected to strengthen further due to atmospheric conditions. Rainfall is likely to continue, especially during late evenings and early mornings.

The IMD has advised farmers to delay harvesting in rain-affected areas. Special advisories have been issued for agricultural zones in Jhalawar, Kota, and Bundi.

As the monsoon tightens its grip on Rajasthan, life in many parts of the state has been disrupted. The combination of continuous rainfall, urban flooding, and tragic accidents has placed a significant burden on both residents and authorities.

The coming days will be crucial, with heavy rain alerts still active. The focus remains on safety, preparedness, and timely response. Citizens are urged to stay informed and follow official guidelines.
