MP Weather : Heavy Rains Disrupt Life Across Madhya Pradesh

Published on

The monsoon has unleashed its full fury in Madhya Pradesh, causing widespread disruption in several districts. With heavy rainfall recorded across over 117 towns, authorities have issued red, orange, and yellow alerts in many regions. As the state battles rising water levels in rivers like the Narmada, schools have been closed in rain-hit areas, and rural connectivity has been severely impacted.

Let’s take a detailed look at today’s MP weather update, rainfall data, affected districts, alerts, and temperature trends.

Heavy Rainfall Batters Madhya Pradesh

Madhya Pradesh is experiencing torrential rains, especially in eastern and central parts of the state. On July 8 and 9, even more intense rain is forecast due to a low-pressure system forming over the Bay of Bengal, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

Over the last 24 hours, rainfall ranging from 1 to 5 inches has been recorded in 117 towns, with some places receiving over 180 mm of rain. This has led to waterlogging, blocked roads, and significant challenges for local authorities.

Flood Alert in Narmada Region, Rural Connectivity Severed

The Narmada River and its tributaries are witnessing a sharp rise in water levels, especially in districts like Mandla and Jabalpur. In Mandla, relentless rain has submerged the Chhota Rapta Bridge, cutting off vital road connections to nearby villages.

As a precautionary measure, the district administrations of Jabalpur, Mandla, Umaria, and Anuppur have announced school closures for two days, citing safety concerns due to the ongoing downpour and risk of flooding.

Rainfall Statistics: MP Weather Report Highlights

According to IMD’s 24-hour rainfall data, several districts recorded extremely high precipitation:

  • Bankahedi (Narmadapuram) – 180.8 mm

  • Jaitpur (Shahdol) – 170 mm

  • Mauganj – 121 mm

  • Junnardev (Chhindwara) – 181.4 mm

  • Gohparu (Shahdol) – 91 mm

  • Patan (Jabalpur) – 86 mm

These figures indicate intense and sustained rainfall, which is likely to continue over the next two days.

Red, Orange & Yellow Alerts in Multiple MP Districts

The IMD has issued weather alerts across the state to warn residents and assist in disaster preparedness:

Orange Alert (Heavy Rain & Thunderstorms):

  • Jabalpur

  • Seoni

  • Mandla

  • Balaghat

  • Damoh

These districts are likely to witness extremely heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds and lightning.

Yellow Alert (Heavy Rain Likely):

  • Raisen, Sehore, Narmadapuram

  • Betul, Harda, Khandwa, Khargone

  • Anuppur, Shahdol, Umaria, Dindori

  • Katni, Narsinghpur, Chhindwara, Panna

  • Sagar, Pandhurna

The yellow alert warns of potential localized flooding and electrical disruptions.

Moderate Rain Expected in These Districts:

  • Bhopal, Vidisha, Rajgarh

  • Indore, Ujjain, Dewas, Dhar

  • Shajapur, Mandsaur, Neemuch

  • Guna, Ashoknagar, Shivpuri, Gwalior

  • Bhind, Morena, Sheopur

  • Singrauli, Sidhi, Rewa, Mauganj

  • Satna, Chhatarpur, Tikamgarh, Niwari, Maihar

These areas may experience light to moderate rainfall with thunder and lightning.

Temperature Report: Highs and Lows Across Madhya Pradesh

Despite the rains, some districts in MP recorded relatively high temperatures, especially in the northern and western parts of the state.

Highest Maximum Temperatures:

  • Gwalior – 35.4°C

  • Khajuraho (Chhatarpur) – 34.4°C

  • Datia/Sheopur – 34.2°C

  • Tikamgarh – 33.5°C

  • Shivpuri – 33.2°C

Lowest Minimum Temperatures:

  • Pachmarhi (Narmadapuram) – 16.2°C

  • Khargone/Khandwa – 18.0°C

  • Narsinghpur – 18.4°C

  • Rajgarh – 21.0°C

  • Betul – 21.2°C

These variations reflect the contrasting weather conditions across the state, with some areas under intense cloud cover while others remain relatively dry and warm.

Weather in Major Cities of Madhya Pradesh

The five major cities of the state witnessed diverse weather conditions:

  • Gwalior: 35.4°C (Hottest among major cities)

  • Ujjain: 30.5°C

  • Bhopal: 29.2°C

  • Indore: 28.2°C

  • Jabalpur: 25.2°C (Coolest major city due to heavy rain)

These figures indicate how the monsoon rainfall has led to cooler conditions in central and eastern parts of MP, particularly Jabalpur and Bhopal.

What’s Causing the Intense Rainfall in MP?

The current weather pattern is attributed to a low-pressure system developing over the Bay of Bengal, moving westward into central India. This system is expected to bring more intense showers on July 8 and 9, especially to eastern and southeastern districts of Madhya Pradesh.

Meteorologists warn that monsoon conditions remain highly active, and the risk of flooding, lightning strikes, and landslides in hilly areas should not be ignored.

Precautionary School Closures in Flood-Prone Districts

Due to incessant rainfall and the possibility of waterlogging and river overflow, local administrations have suspended schools in multiple areas:

  • Jabalpur

  • Mandla

  • Umaria

  • Anuppur

Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and are urging residents to stay indoors, avoid low-lying areas, and refrain from attempting to cross flooded bridges or roads.

As Madhya Pradesh grapples with relentless monsoon rains, residents are advised to remain cautious. With weather alerts in effect, school closures announced, and rivers like Narmada nearing danger levels, this is a critical period for both citizens and administration.
