KKN Gurugram Desk | As the monsoon season continues to impact Bihar, heavy rainfall has been reported across various regions, with the northern districts facing the brunt of the downpour. According to the latest weather updates, districts such as West Champaran, Gopalganj, Siwan, Saran, Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, and Supaul are witnessing continuous rainfall, which is expected to intensify in the coming hours. Additionally, the water level of the Ganges River in Patna is rising, posing a significant concern for local authorities.

Heavy Rainfall Forecast for Northern Bihar

The meteorological department has issued a warning for heavy rainfall in several parts of northern Bihar, with the likelihood of isolated instances of very heavy rain. West Champaran, Gopalganj, and Siwan are particularly at risk, with the weather conditions expected to worsen in the next 24 hours. Experts predict that this continuous rainfall could lead to localized flooding in low-lying areas.

The situation in Muzaffarpur, Madhubani, and Supaul remains critical, as these regions are also experiencing downpours, which could disrupt normal life. Farmers in these areas are advised to take precautions to safeguard their crops and livestock, as such unpredictable weather can lead to significant damage.

Rising Water Levels in Ganga River, Patna on Alert

In addition to the heavy rainfall, the water level of the Ganga River in Patna has been rising steadily. Authorities have issued an alert for residents living near the riverbanks, urging them to stay cautious as the water level may breach danger marks. The increasing water flow poses a threat to communities along the river, as well as to infrastructure that is vulnerable to flooding.

As the Ganges continues to swell, local officials are closely monitoring the situation and taking precautionary measures to mitigate potential flood damage. Flood preparedness plans have been activated, and disaster management teams are on high alert in anticipation of further rainfall and riverine flooding.

Impact on Daily Life and Travel

The ongoing rainfall is disrupting transportation and daily activities across the state. With roads becoming waterlogged and visibility severely reduced, many districts are experiencing traffic jams and delays. Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain spells and follow weather alerts to stay informed.

Railway services in some regions have also been affected, with delays in train schedules. Patna, the state capital, is witnessing an increase in traffic congestion, especially near the riverfront, where the rising Ganga has led to a surge in cautionary measures. In addition, flight schedules may be subject to delays due to weather conditions at the Patna airport.

Weather Experts Warn of More Rain

Meteorologists have forecast that the heavy rains will continue throughout the week, especially in the northern districts. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for several parts of Bihar, signaling that there is a potential for heavy rain and strong winds. These weather conditions are expected to last until the end of the week, with the possibility of intermittent showers in the central and eastern parts of the state as well.

The IMD has also indicated that the southwest monsoon will remain active over Bihar for the foreseeable future. As the rains are expected to be heavy and widespread, it is essential for residents to remain vigilant and prepared for any potential hazards, including flash floods and landslides in the hilly regions.

Precautionary Measures for Farmers and Residents

Given the severity of the weather conditions, residents and farmers are urged to take the necessary precautions. For farmers, the ongoing rainfall presents a mixed challenge, as while it can provide relief to standing crops in drought-prone areas, it also poses a risk to crops already at risk of waterlogging. The authorities recommend ensuring proper drainage systems and safeguarding crops to minimize damage.

For residents, it is essential to follow the guidelines issued by the district administration regarding safety protocols during heavy rain. Local authorities are advising people to avoid walking through flooded areas and to stay indoors during periods of intense rainfall. People living near riverbanks, especially in Patna, should be cautious of the rising water levels and be ready to evacuate if necessary.

Flood Management and Disaster Response

In response to the ongoing rainfall, the state government has activated flood control mechanisms and issued advisories for flood-prone regions. The disaster management team is working on deploying resources and providing assistance to affected communities. The government has also set up emergency relief camps in areas expected to be most affected by flooding, offering shelter, food, and medical aid to displaced people.

The Bihar State Disaster Management Authority (BSDMA) is coordinating with various agencies to ensure timely relief efforts and reduce the adverse effects of flooding. While the rains continue to impact different regions, the government remains committed to protecting lives and property.

With the heavy rainfall expected to persist in Bihar, particularly in northern districts, residents are encouraged to stay updated on weather forecasts and warnings. Authorities continue to monitor the situation closely, and efforts are being made to ensure safety and minimize damage from flooding. As the Ganges River swells and rain showers continue, the importance of preparedness cannot be overstated.

Residents in affected areas are advised to stay indoors, avoid unnecessary travel, and be ready to evacuate if floodwaters begin to rise. For farmers, timely actions to protect crops will be crucial in reducing losses. While the situation is fluid and evolving, staying informed and following safety guidelines will help ensure that communities are able to cope with the ongoing weather challenges.
