KKN Gurugram Desk | As the nation continues to mourn the victims of the tragic Ahmedabad plane crash, emotions ran high in Barmer,Rajasthan, where the body of Jayprakash Choudhary, a promising MBBS student, arrived at his native village. Jayprakash was among the 265 people who lost their lives when an Air India Dreamliner bound for London crashed into the hostel premises of BJ Medical College in Ahmedabad.

Barmer Collector Tina Dabi, visibly moved by the tragedy, paid an emotional tribute to the young medical aspirant. Dabi, known for her administrative acumen and humane approach, was seen with folded hands, eyes brimming with tears, as she stood beside the bereaved family.

A Tearful Farewell from the District Collector

Collector Tina Dabi, along with Superintendent of Police Narendra Singh Meena and several senior officers and public representatives, visited Bor Charanan, Jayprakash’s native village, to extend condolences. As the tricolour-wrapped body arrived in an ambulance, locals gathered in large numbers to pay their final respects to their village’s pride.

Eyewitnesses described how Tina Dabi struggled to hold back tears, frequently wiping them away as she offered floral tributes. The emotional weight of the moment was shared by many who had seen Jayprakash as a symbol of hope and inspiration for the youth of rural Rajasthan.

A Brilliant Student Lost Too Soon

Jayprakash Choudhary was a second-year MBBS student at BJ Medical College. He had cracked the NEET examination with 686 marks out of 720, securing admission to one of Gujarat’s top government medical institutions. His family members recall him as a disciplined, kind-hearted student who wanted to serve in rural areas after completing his studies.

“He had just finished lunch and went to wash his hands when the plane hit the building,” said a close family member, recounting the chilling moments before the crash. “We were told the debris and the fire were too much—he didn’t survive.”

Initial reports indicate that Jayprakash’s body was 30% burned, and he was one of the five individuals who died inside the hostel building during the crash.

The Ahmedabad Plane Crash: What Happened?

The tragic incident occurred when an Air India Boeing B787 Dreamliner, en route to London, crashed shortly after takeoff. The aircraft reportedly lost control and plunged into the hostel wing of BJ Medical College, which housed medical students and staff.

 Key Details:

  • 265 people confirmed dead, including:

    • 241 passengers and crew onboard

    • 5 individuals from the hostel premises

  • The crash site was the second-floor mess area, where four medical students and one doctor’s spouse were present

  • Fire and debris caused extensive damage, making rescue operations extremely challenging

Entire Village in Shock and Mourning

Jayprakash’s father, Dharmaram, is a farmer by profession. The family, including his younger siblings, had high hopes pinned on his future. The entire village, which once celebrated his NEET success as a communal victory, now stands devastated.

Candles were lit across households, prayers were held, and a pall of gloom enveloped the village as the last rites were performed. “We had no idea that we would receive him like this,” said a grieving uncle.

CM Bhajanlal Sharma Offers Condolences

Rajasthan’s Chief Minister Bhajanlal Sharma also extended his sympathies to the grieving family via phone call. He assured them of all possible state support and personally lauded Jayprakash’s dedication and academic excellence.

The state government is reportedly coordinating with the Ministry of Civil Aviation and the Railways to ensure proper assistance for families affected by the tragedy.

Who Was Jayprakash Choudhary?

  • Age: 20

  • Hometown: Bor Charanan village, Barmer district, Rajasthan

  • NEET Score: 686/720 (2023)

 Investigation Underway

Authorities have begun a high-level probe into the cause of the crash. Early assessments suggest technical failure or pilot error as potential causes, although a detailed investigation involving the DGCA (Directorate General of Civil Aviation), Air India, and aircraft manufacturers is ongoing.

The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) and Flight Data Recorder (FDR), commonly referred to as black boxes, have been recovered and are being analyzed.

Ayurvedic Tourists Among the Dead

Apart from medical students like Jayprakash, the crash also claimed the lives of an international couple who had arrived in India for an Ayurvedic retreat. Reports state the couple was staying near the hostel premises and had stopped by the medical college to visit a local doctor.

A Tragedy That Could Have Been Avoided?

Aviation experts and safety advocates are now questioning whether the aircraft was cleared for takeoff under safe conditions. Additionally, calls are rising for stricter flight path regulations, especially in urban zones that house educational and medical institutions.

As questions mount, the focus remains on supporting the victims’ families and ensuring accountability.

Legacy of a Lost Life

Jayprakash Choudhary may no longer be with us, but his story resonates across thousands of villages and towns where students dream of making it big against all odds. His dedication to academics and commitment to public service serve as a reminder of India’s youth potential and the fragility of life.

The Ahmedabad plane crash is one of the most heart-wrenching aviation disasters in recent Indian memory. The emotional tribute paid by Barmer Collector Tina Dabi to Jayprakash Choudhary has struck a chord nationwide, highlighting not just the tragedy of lost lives but also the depth of human empathy in times of sorrow.

As investigations continue and families mourn, the country watches with heavy hearts—hoping lessons are learned, and no such tragedy is repeated.
