Kashmir Terrorist Attack: Compensation Announced for Victims, Home Minister Amit Shah Visits Pahalgam

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | On April 22, 2025, a tragic terrorist attack occurred in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, when militants opened fire indiscriminately, resulting in the deaths of 26 people. This cowardly attack targeted innocent civilians, including tourists, and left the region in shock. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has announced compensation for the victims’ families, and Home Minister Amit Shah has arrived at the site to oversee the response and take appropriate action.

Details of the Attack and Immediate Response

At around 12:30 PM on Tuesday, militants launched a brutal attack in Pahalgam, a popular tourist destination in Jammu and Kashmir. The gunfire left many dead and several others injured. Local authorities swiftly responded, providing assistance and facilitating evacuation operations. The attack is believed to be a coordinated effort by local militants aiming to destabilize the region further.

Compensation for Victims

In a heart-wrenching statement, the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister’s Office (CMO) declared a financial compensation package for the victims’ families. The families of the deceased will receive 10 lakh rupees each, while those severely injured will receive 2 lakh rupees, and those with minor injuries will be given 1 lakh rupees. Authorities also promised that the victims would be provided with the best possible medical care and that all arrangements would be made to transport the injured back to their homes.

Political and Public Reaction

The terrorist attack has drawn widespread condemnation from leaders across the political spectrum. Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan condemned the attack as a cowardly act and assured that the perpetrators would be brought to justice. “Such acts of violence will not deter us from progressing towards a developed India. We stand with the victims’ families and express our heartfelt condolences,” said Chouhan.

Amit Shah’s Statement: A Nation in Solidarity

Home Minister Amit Shah, who arrived at the site of the attack, expressed his outrage and offered condolences to the bereaved families. “India will not bow to terror,” he said. “The perpetrators of this heinous attack will not be spared. We will ensure that they are brought to justice, and their network dismantled.”

Shah also emphasized that the government would not rest until every terrorist involved in this attack was captured. His visit highlighted the seriousness with which the central government views these acts of terror.

Tourists Affected by the Attack

The attack targeted a number of tourists who were visiting Pahalgam, causing widespread panic. The government has taken immediate steps to assist the affected tourists, including launching a free auto service to help stranded visitors return to their homes safely. The initiative has been praised by locals and tourists alike for its efficiency and humanitarian approach.

Local auto drivers have volunteered for the service, demonstrating the spirit of “Atithi Devo Bhava” (The guest is God) and offering assistance to those in distress. The free transport service is especially crucial for those whose travel plans were disrupted by the attack.

Condemnation from Religious Leaders

In the wake of the attack, several religious leaders in Jammu and Kashmir have spoken out against the violence. Many mosques in the region have condemned the terrorist activities and called for peace, unity, and brotherhood. A video circulating on social media shows local leaders urging people to reject violence and stand together to uphold Kashmir’s age-old values of harmony and coexistence.

Islamic scholars and community members reiterated that violence is unacceptable in any form and that such acts only harm the social fabric of society. They urged all communities to work together for peace, stressing that terrorism does not represent the values of Islam or any other religion.

Reactions from Political Leaders

Mehbooba Mufti, PDP President, condemned the attack as an assault not only on tourists but also on the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “This is an attack on the entire region,” she said. “We need to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice swiftly.”

Anil Vij, Haryana Minister, also expressed his outrage, calling the attack a deeply tragic event. He stressed that the government would take severe action against those behind such acts. “This is Modi’s India. We will give a strong reply, and these terrorists will not dare to attack us again.”

Jai Ram Thakur, Leader of the Opposition in Himachal Pradesh, joined in the condemnation, calling the incident a form of targeted killing and expressing concern over the increasing frequency of such attacks. He also stated that the government would ensure that every terrorist involved would be located and eliminated.

Security Forces Ramp Up Operations

In response to the attack, security forces in Jammu and Kashmir have intensified their operations to capture those responsible. The Jammu and Kashmir Police have set up checkpoints in sensitive areas and are conducting regular searches to prevent further attacks.

The authorities have vowed to dismantle the terrorist infrastructure in the region and target the masterminds behind these attacks, ensuring that they do not go unpunished. In addition to the search for the attackers, the government is focusing on strengthening the security apparatus to prevent future violence.

Calls for Stronger Counter-Terrorism Measures

There has been growing pressure from various sections of society, including political parties, military officials, and the general public, for stronger counter-terrorism measures. The recent attack has reignited debates about the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir and the effectiveness of current anti-terrorism laws. Many are urging the central government to adopt a more aggressive stance against militants operating in the region.

Experts argue that it is crucial to address not only the immediate threat but also the underlying causes of terrorism. This includes tackling the ideological and financial support that sustains militant groups in the region.

International Reactions

The international community has also expressed concern over the escalation of violence in Kashmir. The United Nations condemned the attack and called for a united effort to combat terrorism globally. Various nations, including the United States and neighboring countries, expressed their solidarity with India and offered support in the fight against terrorism.

The terrorist attack in Pahalgam has left a scar on the peaceful landscape of Jammu and Kashmir. However, it has also united the people of India in their resolve to fight terrorism and protect innocent lives. While the pain and grief from this tragic incident are immense, the government has made it clear that terrorism will not be allowed to win.
