The weather in Uttar Pradesh today is expected to bring some significant changes as the monsoon continues to be active across the state. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an alert for thunderstorms and heavy rainfall in several districts, along with a lightning risk. These weather conditions are likely to persist over the next few days, making it essential for residents to stay alert.

Weather Update for Uttar Pradesh (6th July 2025)

According to the IMD, today, 6th July, the weather will witness cloudy skies with occasional sunshine in many parts of Uttar Pradesh, especially in the western and eastern regions. While the temperature will remain relatively mild, it will still be warmer than usual in some places. However, the most significant weather event will be the thunderstorms, which are expected to hit several districts by the afternoon.

Heavy Showers and Thunderstorms Expected

In particular, western Uttar Pradesh is set to experience thunderstorms with heavy rainfall. The districts of Meerut, Agra, and Aligarh could see rain accompanied by lightning. As per the IMD, there will also be a significant risk of lightning strikes in certain areas, and the department has issued precautionary alerts.

The weather will change around 12 PM today, and as the day progresses, heavy rainfall might make its way to areas like Mathura, Aligarh, and Agra. The lightning risk is a key concern, and people are advised to stay indoors during stormy weather conditions.

Eastern Uttar Pradesh Weather

Eastern parts of the state, including cities like Varanasi, Gorakhpur, and Prayagraj, are also expected to see thunderstorms with rain showers later in the day. The IMD has forecasted moderate to heavy rainfall in this region, with the likelihood of lightning and thunderstorms continuing for the next 24 hours. The rainfall could bring much-needed relief to the areas that have been facing higher temperatures recently.

Weather in Lucknow and Surrounding Areas

In the state capital, Lucknow, today’s weather will include cloudy skies with intermittent showers and thunder. The maximum temperature will hover around 35°C, with a minimum temperature of 27°C. There are chances of light showers during the day, and the skies may remain overcast.

Weather Forecast for 7th July 2025

Looking ahead to tomorrow, 7th July, the weather will continue to be stormy, with thunder and rainfall expected across western and eastern Uttar Pradesh. The IMD predicts a similar weather pattern, with lightning and heavy showers occurring intermittently. The rainfall might be heavier in regions like Mathura, Ghaziabad, and Varanasi. The lightning risk will also persist in many areas.

Heavy Rainfall Likely in Certain Areas

The weather is expected to remain unpredictable over the next 48 hours. Areas like Allahabad, Mirzapur, and Chitrakoot could witness severe weather conditions with strong winds, heavy rainfall, and lightning strikes. The IMD has advised people in these regions to be cautious and prepared for sudden changes in weather.

Current Weather Trends in UP (Past 24 Hours)

In the last 24 hours, the southwest monsoon has been normal across Uttar Pradesh. The eastern parts of the state saw moderate to light rainfall, with a few places receiving heavy rainfall. Some of the districts that saw significant rainfall include:

  • Mahrauni (Lalitpur): 12 cm of rain

  • Chopan (Sonbhadra): 7 cm

  • Jhansi, Ghiror (Mainpuri): 5 cm

  • Kanpur, Banda, and Maharajganj: 5 cm

In contrast, western Uttar Pradesh had light to moderate rainfall, with some places like Agra, Firozabad, and Mathura experiencing relatively lower temperatures, ranging from -3.1°C to -5.0°C compared to their normal temperatures.

Temperature Update in Uttar Pradesh

The maximum temperature across the state has remained stable, with Moradabad recording the highest at 38.4°C. Meanwhile, the minimum temperature at Kanpur and Etawah was recorded at 25°C. Night temperatures were also slightly higher than usual in Moradabad but remained normal across other regions.

Lightning and Storm Risk – Safety Tips

With thunderstorms and lightning expected over the next couple of days, it is crucial to stay safe. Here are a few safety precautions:

  • Avoid open fields and tall structures during thunderstorms.

  • Stay indoors as much as possible.

  • Unplug electrical devices to avoid damage from lightning strikes.

  • Keep a battery-powered flashlight handy in case of power outages.

  • Do not take shelter under trees during a storm, as lightning may strike them.

The IMD’s warning about lightning is particularly important in areas prone to frequent electrical storms. Farmers, in particular, are advised to secure their fields and livestock from potential damage caused by the weather.

Relief from Heatwave – Monsoon Brings Hope

The monsoon rains are expected to bring relief from the ongoing heatwave in the region. After several weeks of soaring temperatures, these rains are a welcome change, especially for the agricultural sector. The humidity levels will likely rise, but the cool showers will ease the discomfort caused by the relentless heat.

Impact on Agriculture

The heavy rainfall could prove beneficial for the kharif crops, especially paddy and maize, which require consistent rainfall. This weather pattern will help replenish groundwater levels, benefiting both irrigation and water supply in rural areas.

Today, 6th July 2025, Uttar Pradesh is bracing for thunderstorms and rainfall, with a significant risk of lightning strikes in many areas. The IMD’s alert warns residents to stay vigilant as the monsoon continues to make its presence felt. While these rains offer much-needed relief from the heat, they also bring certain risks that require caution, particularly when it comes to lightning.

With the monsoon being active, the weather is likely to bring more rain over the next few days, ensuring that the state sees the long-awaited showers to recharge its water sources. However, people are advised to remain prepared for sudden changes and to follow safety measures during the stormy conditions expected over the next 48 hours.
