UP Police SI 2025: Sub‑Inspector Direct Recruitment Likely to Begin Next Month

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | After awaiting approvals on technical matters related to the Uttar Pradesh Police Constable recruitment (19,220 posts), authorities are set to prioritize the Direct Recruitment of 4,543 Sub‑Inspectors (SI). According to the UP Police Recruitment & Promotion Board (UPPRPB), the SI recruitment process may unfold before constable hiring begins.

Why SI Recruitment Takes Priority?

The Director General of Police (DGP) has forwarded proposals for a total of 24,000 vacancies: 4,543 SI posts and 19,220 constable-level positions. The constable offer is still awaiting final administrative approval over reservations, exam patterns, and eligibility details—slowing down the release of the official notification.

Meanwhile, the board has received clear authorization to proceed with the Sub‑Inspector (SI) vacancy, making it likely to proceed first. Candidates expect the SI notification to be out by July, with online registrations soon to follow.

SI Vacancy Breakdown: 4,543 Posts Announced

Per the DGP office, the vacancies include:

Category Posts
Sub‑Inspector – Civil Police 4,242
SI – Women PAC (Badayun, Gorakhpur, Lucknow) 106
Platoon Commander / SI – Armed Police 135
SI – Special Security Force 60
Total 4,543

These openings will be filled via a direct recruitment process conducted by UPPRPB.

Age Relaxation: 3 Bonus Years for Applicants

In a significant move this year, the UP government has approved a three-year age relaxation for SI aspirants. Eligible general category candidates can now apply up to 31 years, while the upper limit for reserved categories will correspondingly increase. This update aims to benefit aspirants who missed earlier deadlines due to age.

 Eligibility Criteria & Selection Process

Educational Qualification:
• Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognized university.

Age Limit (Apply):
• General • 21–28 years
• Reserved categories will get standard relaxations plus the 3-year bonus.

Physical Standards (PST):

  • Men (Gen/OBC/SC): Height 168 cm; Chest 79 cm (unexpanded), 84 cm (expanded)

  • ST Men: Height 160 cm; Chest 77 cm – 82 cm

  • Women (Gen/OBC/SC): Height 152 cm; ST: 147 cm

  • Weight (Women): Minimum 40 kg

Physical Efficiency Test (PET):
• Men must complete 4.8 km run in 28 minutes.

Selection Stages:

  1. Written Exam (based on general knowledge, reasoning, etc.)

  2. Qualifying Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

  3. Medical Examination

  4. Document Verification

Candidates scoring above the threshold in the written test move to the PET stage.

 Salary & Pay Scale

Newly recruited Sub-Inspectors will fall under the Pay Matrix Level 6, offering:

  • Grade Pay: ₹4,200 in Pay Band ₹9,300–34,800

  • Plus allowances: DA, HRA, transport, etc., as per state government rules

 Notification Timeline & Application Process

  • Expected Notification Release: July 2025

  • Applications Open: Online registration via UPPRPB’s official website – uppbpb.gov.in

  • Last Date: Likely within 2–3 weeks post-notification

  • Exam Date: Expected 1–2 months after applications close

Applicants should prepare documents (B.Sc. certificate, caste, residence proof) in advance. Monitor updates closely on the official portal.

 Constable Recruitment Update (19,220 Posts)

Recruitment of constables across categories is underway but currently on hold, awaiting administrative approval for key parameters like reservation breakdown, exam structure, and candidate eligibility. Once resolved, public notice should be released.

 Expansion of UP Police Force

The ongoing recruitment is part of a broader upscaling effort. Since 2017, UP Police has inducted over 218,000 personnel, expanding its strength to nearly 400,000, including around 36,000 women. The latest round plans to add 28,138 new positions, including SIs and constables.

 Why It Matters

  • Large-Scale Hiring: With 24,000 vacancies—4,543 SIs and 19,220 constables—this is one of the largest intake waves in recent years.

  • Age Relief: The extra age relaxation benefits aspirants who previously missed deadlines.

  • Field-Level Strengthening: Filling SI positions helps improve district policing and supervision.

  • Boosting Gender Equality: Many posts reserved for women, reinforcing efforts toward workforce diversity.

The imminent UP Police SI recruitment signal a strategic shift in Uttar Pradesh’s law enforcement drive. With 4,543 Sub‑Inspector openings, a one-time three-year age relaxation, and improved gender representation, the state is fast-tracking officer-level recruitment while lower-rank constable hiring awaits final approvals. Aspiring candidates should stay alert to the official notification at uppbpb.gov.in and prepare accordingly for the upcoming competitive selection process.
