Monsoon activity remains subdued over Lucknow and its nearby districts, but the western parts of the state are bracing for heavy rain. According to senior meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh, thunderstorms accompanied by heavy downpours are likely on Thursday and Friday, prompting authorities to issue warnings for intense rainfall and lightning strikes across the region.

Current Monsoon Status in Lucknow Region

For the past four to five days, the monsoon has weakened over central Uttar Pradesh, including Lucknow. While residents are missing the steady rains, western parts of the state have seen increased activity. The next couple of days may bring much-needed showers to balance the rainfall distribution.

Meteorological updates specify that Lucknow experienced cloud cover and mild winds on Wednesday, offering residents temporary relief from heat and humidity. Daytime temperature dropped by 3 °C to settle at around 32 °C, with night temperatures rising to a sultry 28 °C. However, the incoming rain should further ease the weather.

Heavy Rain & Lightning Watch for Western UP

A red alert for intense rainfall has been issued across key districts in western Uttar Pradesh, including:

  • Balrampur

  • Shravasti

  • Bahraich

  • Lakhimpur Kheri

Meteorologist Atul Kumar Singh states, “Expect thunderstorms and lightning accompanied by torrential downpours over Thursday and Friday.” Similarly, other districts such as Banda, Chitrakoot, Prayagraj, Sonbhadra, Mirzapur, Chandauli, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Bijnor, Jalaun, Hamirpur, Mahoba, Jhansi, and Lalitpur are also under weather advisories.

Lightning Risk in 40 Districts

In addition to heavy rainfall, authorities have issued a lightning alert covering around 40 districts, cautioning residents to stay mindful of stormy conditions. The alert highlights that sudden lightning and gusting winds pose risk to life and property, especially in low-lying or open areas.

Weather experts advise people not to venture out unnecessarily during the alert period, and suggest taking safety precautions such as:

  • Avoiding open fields and tall structures

  • Staying indoors during heavy storms

  • Disconnecting electrical appliances during lightning

Lucknow Weather Snapshot: Temporary Relief but No End to Heat

  • Cloud cover and moderate winds brought down daytime temperatures in Lucknow

  • High: 32 °C (a drop of 3 degrees from the previous day)

  • Low: 28 °C (2 °C warmer than the previous night)

Although this fluctuation provides brief respite, the region awaits the more sustained monsoon showers foreseen later this week.

Monsoon Forecast: What Lies Ahead

  1. Thursday–Friday: Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected across western and select central UP districts.

  2. Lightning Advisory: Valid in nearly 40 districts; locals cautioned to stay alert.

  3. Central UP Delay: Lucknow and nearby districts may only see moderate rain by weekend.

  4. Next Update: Detailed two-day weather forecast for central and western UP expected after Friday.

Safety Measures During Monsoon & Lightning

With the alert in place, locals are urged to follow these safety precautions:

  • Avoid outdoor travel unless essential during storms and lightning.

  • Use umbrellas, raincoats, and waterproof footwear to stay protected.

  • Keep flashlights and essential supplies ‘handy during power cuts.

  • Ensure electrical gadgets are unplugged during thunderstorms.

  • Stay clear of pools, lakes, and flooded roads to avoid accidents.

Context: Monsoon Patterns in Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh monsoon patterns are known for their unpredictability. Strong rain in western parts often contrasts with dry spells in eastern and central regions. Lucknow and its neighboring districts, although in a rain shadow zone, can still experience erratic overnight thunderstorms.

Authorities from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) closely monitor these regional shifts to issue real-time alerts and advisories.

Summary: Weather Takeaways

  • Monsoon Status: Active in western UP, weak near Lucknow

  • Rain Outlook: Heavy showers and thunderstorms on Thursday–Friday

  • Lightning Caution: Alert issued for ~40 districts

  • Lucknow Temperature: Slight relief with 32 °C max, 28 °C min recorded Wednesday

  • Outlook: Moderate rain expected in central UP by weekend
