Multiple court complexes in Bihar were thrown into a state of alert after receiving bomb threat emails on Thursday. The emails warned of RDX explosives planted inside court premises, forcing authorities to immediately evacuate buildings. The incidents have raised serious concerns over court security in the state and prompted large-scale police action. The threat emails mentioned four courts by name. These included the Patna Civil Court, Patna City Court, Kishanganj Civil Court, and Gayaji Civil Court. The sender claimed that three RDX devices had been planted inside the court campuses. Following the receipt of the email, police and court officials treated the threat as serious and began emergency procedures. Panic and Evacuation at Patna Courts In Patna, the situation became tense soon after the email surfaced. Judges, lawyers, and court employees were asked to vacate their chambers immediately. All judicial work was suspended as a precautionary measure. Entry into the Patna Civil Court and Patna City Court premises was completely restricted. Police teams from the Pirbahore police station reached the spot and started a thorough search operation. Courtrooms, corridors, chambers, and surrounding areas were checked carefully. People who had arrived for hearings were sent back without proceedings. Prisoners and witnesses scheduled to appear before the court were also returned. Security personnel ensured that no unauthorized person entered the court campus. The evacuation process was completed calmly, though fear and anxiety were visible among lawyers and litigants present at the site. Heightened Security in Kishanganj and Gayaji Similar precautionary measures were taken in Kishanganj and Gayaji after the same threat email was received. Court buildings in both districts were cleared, and judicial work was halted. Police teams secured entry points and restricted movement around the court complexes. Search operations were carried out inside courtrooms and nearby areas. Bomb detection squads and local police units remained on high alert. Authorities ensured that staff and visitors were moved to safe locations. The evacuation caused disruption in routine court activities, but officials emphasized that safety remained the top priority. Email Traced to Tamil Nadu, Investigation Underway Kishanganj superintendent of police Sagar Kumar confirmed that the threatening email originated from Tamil Nadu. He said special police teams were deployed to investigate the matter. According to officials, searches were conducted thoroughly, but no suspicious object had been recovered so far. Police officials stated that security arrangements would remain tight until the investigation concludes. Cybercrime units are working to trace the sender of the email. Authorities are trying to determine whether the threat was genuine or a hoax intended to create panic. Officials said that every threat, regardless of past outcomes, must be taken seriously. Standard operating procedures were followed without delay to avoid any risk. Repeated Threats Raise Serious Security Concerns This incident is not an isolated one. Courts in Bihar have received similar bomb threat emails in recent months. On October 16, 2025, Patna Civil Court and Barh Civil Court were targeted with emails claiming that RDX explosives had been planted inside the premises. That incident also led to panic and evacuation. Earlier, on August 28, 2025, the Patna Civil Court received another alarming email. That message alleged that four RDX IEDs were placed inside judges’ chambers and the court campus. The email also mentioned Pakistan’s intelligence agency, ISI, which further escalated concerns at that time. In all previous cases, security agencies did not find any explosive materials. However, the frequency of such threats has alarmed both judicial authorities and law enforcement agencies. Impact on Court Functioning and Public Confidence Repeated bomb threats have disrupted court functioning across Bihar. Lawyers, litigants, and court staff face uncertainty whenever such alerts emerge. Judicial proceedings are delayed, affecting thousands of cases listed daily. Legal experts believe repeated evacuations impact public confidence in institutional security. They stress the need for stronger preventive measures and advanced screening systems at court premises. Court officials have urged the government to review existing security protocols. Many believe permanent deployment of specialized security units may help deter such threats.
