IPL 2025 Final to Celebrate Operation Sindoor Victory: BCCI Plans Special Tribute to Indian Armed Forces

IPL 2025 Final: Punjab Kings vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru

KKN Gurugram Desk | In a rare and symbolic gesture, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will honor the Indian Armed Forces during the IPL 2025 Closing Ceremony on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad. The tribute is dedicated to the success of Operation Sindoor, a cross-border military action carried out by India in response to the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack, which claimed 26 civilian lives.

 Operation Sindoor: The Background

Launched in the midnight hours of 6–7 May 2025Operation Sindoor was India’s targeted retaliation against terror camps operating in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK). The operation focused on dismantling infrastructure linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), and Hizbul Mujahideen, all believed to have been involved in the Pahalgam massacre.

Executed with surgical precision by India’s Army, Air Force, and Navy, the operation neutralized several high-value terrorist targets, with minimal collateral damage.

Tribute at IPL Final: BCCI’s National Salute

According to BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia, the board has invited the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and the chiefs of the Army, Navy, and Air Force to attend the IPL 2025 Final. The ceremony is expected to feature:

  • dedication segment in honor of India’s armed forces

  • visual tribute commemorating Operation Sindoor

  • Possible appearances or addresses by military representatives

  • Coordination with the Ministry of Defence for official protocol

“We salute the bravery, courage, and selfless service of our armed forces. Their efforts in Operation Sindoor are a reminder of what true patriotism looks like,” Saikia told Sportstar.

Revised IPL 2025 Schedule Due to Operation Sindoor

Originally, the IPL 2025 final was scheduled for May 25 in Kolkata, but rising military tensions between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor forced the tournament to be temporarily suspended for a week.

Key dates after rescheduling:

  • IPL resumed: May 17

  • Playoffs begin: May 29 (Mullanpur to host Qualifier 1 & Eliminator)

  • Final match: June 3, at Narendra Modi Stadium

The decision was taken to ensure national security and logistical ease amid heightened cross-border tension.

Indian Air Force’s Role in Retaliation

Following Operation Sindoor, Pakistan attempted a retaliatory move which was effectively countered by the Indian Air Force (IAF). The coordinated military strategy led to a ceasefire declaration on May 10, brokered through diplomatic backchannels, and ensured de-escalation.

This background plays a critical role in BCCI’s decision to make the IPL finale a moment of national solidarity, going beyond sports.

 Significance of the Tribute

Cricket in India is more than a sport—it’s a shared emotion. By aligning a high-profile event like the IPL final with a tribute to national defense, BCCI is aiming to:

  • Celebrate national unity

  • Increase public awareness of military sacrifice

  • Integrate sports with civic responsibility

  • Strengthen the civil-military relationship through a shared platform

Such recognition is rare but increasingly relevant, especially in a time when both sports and defense are central to India’s global identity.

 Public & Political Reaction

The move by BCCI has been widely appreciated:

  • Fans and players on social media have welcomed the decision with hashtags like #SaluteToForces and #OperationSindoor trending.

  • Politicians across parties praised the BCCI’s initiative for bridging nationalism and sportsmanship.

  • Veterans and defense analysts have also applauded the gesture, calling it a “cultural salute to the real heroes.”

 Closing Ceremony Highlights (Expected)

Though the full list of performances is yet to be released, the BCCI is expected to include:

  • A short video tribute documenting Operation Sindoor

  • An aerial salute or flyover by the IAF (subject to MoD clearance)

  • Cultural performances featuring themes of valor, sacrifice, and unity

  • Appearances by celebrities known for defense advocacy

Security will be heightened at Narendra Modi Stadium, with coordination between state police, NSG commandos, and military liaison officers.

A Tournament Marked by Patriotism

This year’s IPL 2025 has been intertwined with national events:

  • Players donned black armbands in memory of Pahalgam victims

  • Matches began with a moment of silence in the week following the attack

  • Many teams, including RR and PBKS, publicly saluted the armed forces

“Cricket and country go hand in hand. This IPL isn’t just about sixes and centuries—it’s about standing together as a nation,” said a senior BCCI official.

By dedicating the IPL 2025 Closing Ceremony to Operation Sindoor, the BCCI is making a powerful statement—that the heroes who defend the nation deserve to be honored not just in defense circles, but also in India’s most-loved sport.

June 3 will not just be the culmination of another cricket season—it will be a celebration of valor, sacrifice, and national unity, broadcast to millions of Indians and cricket fans worldwide.
