Weather Alert: Rain and Storms to Impact Multiple States in India

KKN Gurugram Desk | The weather across various parts of India has undergone a sudden shift, with heavy rainfall and strong winds affecting several states. Regions including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Punjab have been experiencing continuous rain for the past few days.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), this change is due to an active Western Disturbance, which is expected to influence weather patterns in the coming days. Several states may continue to witness rain and gusty winds through the weekend. On Friday, multiple regions may experience moderate to heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms.

Western Disturbance to Strengthen, New System Developing

Meteorologists predict a new Western Disturbance will become active on February 24, leading to further weather fluctuations in North and Northeast India. Additionally, signs of a cyclonic circulation have been observed over northern and eastern India. These systems are expected to trigger rainfall across Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan.

Furthermore, another Western Disturbance is likely to develop in the last week of February, which may extend its impact to Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Arunachal Pradesh.

The Himalayan regions, including Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Arunachal Pradesh, are expected to experience heavy rainfall, while hailstorms in some areas could potentially damage crops.

Heavy Rainfall and Strong Winds Expected in Northern and Eastern India

As per IMD’s forecast, starting February 24Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan, and Western Uttar Pradesh may experience light to moderate rain showers. Meanwhile, Eastern India could witness thunderstorms and high-speed winds on February 22 and 23.

There is also a risk of lightning strikes and hailstorms, which could pose a danger to crops and public safety.

Storms and Downpour Likely in West Bengal and Odisha

The meteorological department anticipates intense thunderstorms and rainfall in West Bengal and Odisha over the next two days.

Cities and districts such as Kolkata, East and West Medinipur, Howrah, Nadia, and North and South 24 Parganas could experience heavy showers with strong winds. These conditions may disrupt daily life and affect agricultural fields.

Weather Changes to Impact Rajasthan

Rajasthan is also experiencing weather fluctuations due to the Western Disturbance. Over the past 24 hours, light rainfall has been recorded in Hanumangarh, Sangaria, and nearby areas.

Weather scientists predict that on Saturdaycloudy skies will persist, though most parts of the state will remain dry.

On Fridaywestern Rajasthan’s border areas may witness partly cloudy skies with scattered drizzle. According to IMD, temperatures may drop by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours, while the minimum temperature could decrease by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius.

Crop Damage Raises Concerns Among Farmers

Heavy rainfall and hailstorms have caused severe crop damage in states like Rajasthan, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar. Key crops, including wheat, mustard, and pulses, have been significantly affected.

Farmers are worried as unseasonal rainfall threatens crop yield and production. Experts warn that if these weather disturbances persistrabi crops may suffer further losses, leading to economic setbacks for farmers.
