Premanand Maharaj Ekantit Vartalaap : Who Truly Controls the Human Mind

Published on

In everyday life, many people experience a constant struggle with their own thoughts. Despite repeated efforts, the mind often refuses to stay under control. This situation leads people to question who actually governs the mind and why it behaves independently. Addressing this common concern, the renowned Vrindavan saint Premanand Maharaj recently shared a detailed explanation during an Ekantit Vartalaap.

Responding to a devotee’s question, Premanand Maharaj explained the concept of mental control in a simple yet profound manner. His discourse focused on the relationship between the body, senses, mind, intellect, and soul. The explanation aimed to help people understand the root cause of inner imbalance and mental unrest.

The Chariot Analogy Explained by Premanand Maharaj

Premanand Maharaj compared the human body to a chariot. He said that the body acts as the structure of the chariot, while the sense organs function like horses pulling it forward. According to him, the mind serves as the reins that control these horses. The intellect plays the role of the charioteer, and the soul remains seated inside as the true traveler.

He explained that the direction of life depends on how these elements function together. When the charioteer remains alert and capable, the chariot moves safely. When the charioteer loses control, the journey becomes risky. In this analogy, the charioteer symbolizes human intellect, which is responsible for guiding thoughts and actions.

Importance of Intellect in Controlling the Mind

Premanand Maharaj emphasized that intellect is meant to control the mind, not the other way around. The mind continuously interacts with the senses and reacts to external attractions. Without guidance, it naturally drifts toward pleasure and desire.

He explained that when intellect firmly holds the reins of the mind, the senses follow a disciplined path. This balance creates inner stability and allows the soul to experience peace. A strong intellect ensures that thoughts remain controlled and actions remain purposeful.

According to him, spiritual awareness grows when intellect functions properly. It allows individuals to distinguish between right and wrong. This clarity helps maintain mental discipline and emotional balance.

What Happens When the Natural Order Is Disturbed

Premanand Maharaj pointed out that in most people’s lives, this natural order is reversed. The senses become dominant and overpower the mind. The mind, in turn, begins to dominate the intellect. As a result, intellect loses its authority and clarity.

He explained that when intellect becomes weak, it stops guiding the mind. Instead, it starts obeying impulses and desires. This condition leads to confusion, poor decision-making, and loss of self-control. The individual then becomes vulnerable to mental and emotional instability.

Premanand Maharaj described this situation as dangerous for spiritual well-being. Without proper guidance, the journey of life becomes uncertain and filled with obstacles.

Comparison With an Uncontrolled Driver

To further clarify his point, Premanand Maharaj compared a weak intellect to an intoxicated driver. He said that a driver who is not alert cannot control the vehicle properly. An accident in such a situation becomes unavoidable.

Similarly, when intellect loses awareness, a person begins to make reckless decisions. Desires dictate actions, and consequences are ignored. This leads to suffering and inner downfall. According to him, mental discipline collapses when intellect fails to remain vigilant.

How Mental Control Gradually Slips Away

Premanand Maharaj explained that loss of control does not happen suddenly. It follows a gradual process. First, external objects attract the senses. The senses then influence the mind. Over time, the mind gains control over the intellect.

Once intellect surrenders, discrimination between right and wrong weakens. This condition results in inner conflict and dissatisfaction. He stated that this chain explains why many people feel restless despite material comfort.

Modern life, he said, often strengthens desires while weakening discipline. This imbalance creates continuous mental stress and emotional instability.

Restoring the Right Inner Balance

According to Premanand Maharaj, the solution lies in restoring the correct inner hierarchy. Intellect must remain in command. The mind should function under its guidance. The senses must operate within limits.

He explained that when intellect regains control, mental stability returns. The senses begin moving in the right direction. Life becomes orderly and meaningful. The soul feels protected when guided by a disciplined intellect.

He emphasized that discipline is not suppression. It is conscious regulation of thoughts and actions. Regular self-awareness strengthens this process.

Purity of Intellect and Daily Discipline

Premanand Maharaj stressed that intellectual purity is essential for lasting control. An impure intellect easily falls prey to temptation. A pure intellect, however, recognizes long-term consequences and acts wisely.

He said that spiritual practices help purify intellect. Reflection, restraint, and self-discipline gradually strengthen awareness. With consistent effort, the mind learns to follow guidance instead of chasing impulses.

According to him, daily discipline is necessary. Neglect allows imbalance to return. Continuous effort ensures progress and inner strength.

The Soul’s Safety Depends on Guidance

Concluding his discourse, Premanand Maharaj said that the soul’s safety depends entirely on the intellect. A capable charioteer ensures a safe journey. An incapable one leads the traveler toward danger.

He reminded listeners that every individual carries this responsibility within. When intellect remains alert, life moves toward peace and stability. When intellect fails, downfall becomes unavoidable.

Through this Ekantit Vartalaap, Premanand Maharaj offered a clear perspective on mental control. His explanation simplified complex spiritual concepts and encouraged self-awareness. The discourse highlighted that true control over the mind begins with disciplined intellect and conscious living.
