Pregnant Woman Dies During Surgery at Unlicensed Clinic in Bhagalpur, Newborn Survives

Published on

A tragic incident has been reported from Bhagalpur district, raising serious concerns over illegal medical practices. A pregnant woman died during a surgical procedure at an unlicensed clinic. The incident occurred in the Kahalgaon block under the Rasalpur police station area. The newborn child, however, has been reported safe.

The case has triggered outrage among family members and local residents. Allegations suggest gross medical negligence by a so-called doctor. The operation was allegedly performed after watching videos on YouTube.

Incident Reported from Ekchari Village

The incident took place in Ekchari village, located in the Rasalpur police station limits. According to information, the woman was taken to a rural clinic during labor pain. The clinic was run by a local unlicensed practitioner. The doctor reportedly advised immediate surgery.

Family members allege that consent was taken for the operation. They were assured of safe delivery. The clinic reportedly lacked basic medical facilities required for surgery.

Surgery Allegedly Performed After Watching YouTube Videos

Serious allegations have been leveled against the practitioner. It is claimed that the doctor watched YouTube videos before conducting the operation. A female and a male assistant were present during the procedure.

The operation was conducted without proper equipment or emergency arrangements. During surgery, the woman reportedly suffered excessive bleeding. She died on the operation table due to complications.

Victim Identified as Swati Devi

The deceased woman has been identified as Swati Devi. Her marital home is in Modhiya village under Thakurgangti police station area. This area falls in Godda district. Her husband, Vikram Kumar, works as a daily wage laborer.

During pregnancy, Swati Devi was staying at her parental home in Khadahara village. Family members stated she was taken to the clinic on Thursday night. Labor pain had intensified at that time.

Doctor Advised Referral After Woman Died

After severe bleeding, the woman’s condition deteriorated rapidly. The doctor reportedly advised shifting her to another hospital. By the time this advice was given, the woman had already died.

Following the incident, the clinic was shut immediately. The accused doctor fled from the spot. His whereabouts remain unknown.

Protest by Family Members and Villagers

After the woman’s death, anger spread across the village. Family members and local residents gathered outside the clinic. They placed the body outside and staged a protest.

The demonstration continued for several hours. Residents demanded strict action against the unlicensed practitioner. They also demanded accountability from health authorities.

Police Action and Postmortem

Upon receiving information, police from Rasalpur station reached the spot. The body was taken into custody for legal procedures. It was later sent for postmortem examination.

Amit Kumar, the station in-charge, confirmed the incident. He stated that the woman died during treatment at an illegal clinic. He added that the doctor is absconding.

Health Department Initiates Inquiry

The local health administration has taken note of the incident. Pawan Kumar stated that an inquiry will be conducted. He assured appropriate action after investigation.

Officials said previous complaints existed against the clinic. However, no strict action was taken earlier. This has raised questions about regulatory oversight.

Allegation of Illegal Fees and Negligence

Family members also alleged that the doctor demanded Rs 30,000 for the operation. They claimed the amount was taken despite poor facilities. Villagers stated the clinic had no emergency support systems.

Locals said such illegal practices have continued unchecked. They blamed authorities for ignoring earlier warnings. The incident has highlighted risks faced by rural patients.

Forensic Team to Examine Clinic

Police officials confirmed that the forensic science laboratory team has been informed. The clinic premises will be examined for evidence. Medical instruments and materials may be seized.

Police said further action will depend on the family’s complaint. As of now, no written application has been submitted. Legal proceedings will begin once a complaint is filed.

Growing Concern Over Quack Doctors

This incident has once again exposed the dangers of unlicensed medical practice. Many rural areas lack access to proper healthcare facilities. People often depend on untrained practitioners.

Health experts warn that such negligence can cost lives. They stress the need for awareness and strict enforcement. Authorities are being urged to identify and shut down illegal clinics.

Newborn Declared Safe

Amid the tragedy, the newborn child is reported to be safe. The baby has been shifted to another facility. Doctors there are monitoring the child’s health condition.

Family members are devastated by the loss. They are demanding justice for the deceased woman. The incident continues to draw public attention across the region.

The case serves as a grim reminder of healthcare gaps. It underscores the urgent need for safe maternal care. Authorities are expected to act swiftly in the coming days.
