Iran-Israel War Escalates: Trump Calls Netanyahu, U.S. Strikes Spark Retaliation

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | A new wave of international tension has erupted in the Middle East as the conflict between Iran and Israel intensifies, following a series of military strikes, global political reactions, and retaliatory threats. The United States, under the leadership of President Donald Trump, confirmed launching coordinated missile strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, prompting Iran to retaliate by launching attacks on Israeli cities.

This development marks one of the most volatile flashpoints in West Asia in recent years, pushing the region to the brink of full-scale war. As the situation unfolds rapidly, global leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, have urged restraint and a return to diplomacy.

Trump Confirms Strikes, Warns of Further Military Action

Speaking from the White House, President Donald Trump confirmed that the United States carried out missile attacks on Iranian nuclear sites, targeting facilities in Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. Trump stated, “If Iran thinks about retaliation, it will face consequences far more severe.”

According to U.S. officials, the airstrikes involved:

  • 30 Tomahawk missiles

  • B-2 stealth bombers

  • Advanced GBU-57A/B Massive Ordnance Penetrator (MOP) bombs

These weapons were reportedly used to penetrate hardened underground nuclear bunkers, sending a clear message of America’s military capability.

Netanyahu Confirms Trump’s Call, Thanks U.S. Support

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that President Trump personally called him following the initial strikes on Iran. Netanyahu described the conversation as “emotional and deeply reassuring”, stating that Trump’s commitment to Israel’s security remains unshaken.

In an official statement, Netanyahu said, “America has made history. No other nation could have taken such decisive action. We thank President Trump for standing with Israel.”

Iran Retaliates: Attacks on Israeli Cities and Airbases

In response, Iran launched multiple missiles targeting Israeli military and civilian sites, marking the most direct confrontation between the two nations in recent years.

The Iranian Air Force also reportedly attempted to launch fighter jets from Dezful Air Base, but the Israeli Air Force claims to have shot down two Iranian F-5 fighter jets, releasing footage of the takedown.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry condemned the U.S. and Israeli actions, stating, “This is no longer diplomacy — this is war.”

Casualties Mount: Over 800 Dead in Iran

According to reports from human rights watchdogs, the death toll in Iran due to Israeli and U.S. strikes has reached 865, with over 3,396 injured. Among the deceased are:

  • 363 civilians

  • 215 security personnel

  • Remaining victims are presumed to be from Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and other government sectors.

The data was provided by the U.S.-based organization Human Rights Activists in Iran.

Iran Confirms Damage to Nuclear Sites but Denies Radiation Leaks

Iranian authorities have acknowledged that several of their nuclear facilities were damaged, specifically at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz, but insisted that no radiation leakage has occurred.

In a public address, Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization stated, “Residents in surrounding areas are safe. Our nuclear infrastructure remains intact, though some structural damage has occurred.”

U.S. Navy Bases on High Alert in Bahrain

In a separate development, the Kingdom of Bahrain, which hosts several U.S. naval installations, has placed its defense forces on high alert. The Bahraini government has instructed up to 70% of government employees to work from home, citing regional instability.

PM Modi Appeals for De-escalation

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and called for de-escalation through dialogue.

In a social media post, PM Modi stated, “I urged both sides to prioritize diplomacy, peace, and regional stability. War is not a solution. India supports peaceful resolution through negotiation.”

India has deep strategic ties with both Israel and Iran, making its role crucial in potential peace-building efforts.

UN Secretary-General Warns of Global Fallout

The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres expressed grave concern, stating that the escalation poses a serious threat to international peace and security.

“We urge all sides to exercise maximum restraint. Any further aggression could lead to irreversible damage,” Guterres added during an emergency UN Security Council session.

Airspace Shutdown, Heightened Security in Israel

Amid rising security concerns, Israel has closed its airspace. The Israel Airports Authority announced that all civilian air traffic is suspended indefinitely, though it did not specify the duration of the closure.

Military patrols have increased in Tel Aviv, Haifa, and Jerusalem, while emergency protocols are active across Israeli hospitals and defense zones.

Iran Accuses U.S. of Sabotaging Diplomacy

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi accused the United States of deliberately derailing diplomatic negotiations, stating that just as Iran was engaging with European Union diplomats, the U.S. launched an unprovoked strike.

“America doesn’t want peace. They destroyed the Vienna talks and now this,” Araghchi stated.

Growing Regional Concerns: What’s Next?

As tensions reach a boiling point, analysts warn of several key risks:

  • Possible expansion of the conflict into Lebanon, Syria, and Iraq, where Iran-backed groups operate

  • Threat of global oil supply disruptions, pushing prices upward

  • Cyberattacks and asymmetric warfare targeting U.S. and Israeli infrastructure

  • Civilian casualties and humanitarian crises in the event of prolonged military engagement

The international community, including Russia, China, and the EU, is expected to issue coordinated responses urging calm and advocating for renewed nuclear diplomacy.

The escalating Iran-Israel conflict, fueled by U.S. airstrikes and retaliatory Iranian attacks, marks a dangerous phase for international relations. With thousands affected and nuclear facilities under direct assault, the risk of full-scale war is real and immediate.

World leaders are now at a crossroads: either push for immediate diplomatic intervention or witness a devastating regional war with global implications.
