Bihar Weather Update : Intense Cold Expected from December 10; Pashchua Winds to Intensify Conditions

Published on

As December’s second week begins, the state of Bihar is experiencing a significant drop in temperatures. According to the weather department, the cold is set to increase in the coming days, with several districts of Bihar, including Muzaffarpur, being placed on high alert. From December 10, residents will feel a sharp chill not only in the mornings and evenings but throughout the day. The drop in temperature is expected to be more pronounced due to the influence of the cold Pashchua winds, which will intensify the ongoing cold wave.

The weather forecast predicts that this cold spell will remain in effect for several days, causing discomfort for many. The chill will be especially noticeable in the mornings, which will have dense fog, reducing visibility in many areas, including roads where traffic flow may be disrupted. This weather change is expected to affect daily life significantly, and people are urged to take necessary precautions.

Weather Alert for Multiple Districts in Bihar

The Bihar weather department, led by Dr. A. Sattar, issued the weather alert on December 9. The warning, issued by the Rural Agricultural Weather Service of Pusa’s Dr. Rajendra Prasad Central Agricultural University, indicates that cold weather is expected to persist in Muzaffarpur, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, East and West Champaran, Shivhar, Darbhanga, Madhubani, and Begusarai districts for the next three to four days. Dense fog will prevail until around 10 AM each morning, after which the skies will clear, but the temperatures will remain low.

During the day, the maximum temperature is expected to fall to 20°C, and the minimum temperature will hover around 9-10°C. The Pashchua winds will blow at a speed of 5-7 km per hour, further adding to the cold conditions.

Impact of Fog and Cold Weather on Daily Life

On December 9, Muzaffarpur recorded a maximum temperature of 25.6°C and a minimum of 12.4°C. The day began with dense fog that enveloped the entire region, reducing visibility to less than 10 meters in some areas. This led to disruptions on roads, with vehicles having to use headlights throughout the morning. The fog persisted until around 10:30 AM, when sunlight started to break through. By afternoon, the temperatures dropped further, making the already chilly weather feel more intense.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that these cold conditions will continue until December 12, with the possibility of a cold wave developing. This could lead to even colder temperatures in the coming days, especially in the northern regions of the state.

Cold Weather Alert for Farmers

With temperatures dipping significantly, the weather department has also issued a caution to farmers. The cold weather may affect crops, particularly those sensitive to temperature fluctuations. Farmers are advised to monitor weather patterns closely and take necessary steps to protect their crops from the harsh cold. This could include measures like covering vulnerable crops and ensuring that livestock is kept in warmer conditions.

Health Precautions for the Elderly and Children

Health experts are urging the elderly and children to limit outdoor activities due to the extremely cold conditions. The cold weather can increase the risk of illnesses such as respiratory problems and hypothermia. Experts recommend wearing warm clothing, covering the head and neck, and staying indoors as much as possible during the early morning and late evening hours when the cold is most intense.

Public health organizations have also emphasized the importance of staying hydrated and maintaining a balanced diet to build immunity against the cold. The risk of cold-related illnesses increases during severe weather events, so it is crucial to be well-prepared.

Preparing for the Cold Wave

As Bihar braces for a prolonged cold spell, it is essential for the public to prepare for the possibility of more severe weather in the coming weeks. The Meteorological Department has warned of a “cold wave-like” situation, which could further lower temperatures. The cold wave is expected to have widespread effects, impacting daily activities, particularly in the rural areas where people rely more on agriculture and outdoor work.

Citizens should be vigilant about the weather updates from local authorities and take all recommended precautions. With the potential for colder conditions and foggy mornings, road safety is also a significant concern. Drivers are urged to be extra cautious while navigating foggy conditions and ensure their vehicles are equipped with working headlights and other safety features.

In summary, Bihar’s weather is turning colder from December 10, with the intensity expected to increase over the next few days. Dense fog and a sharp dip in temperatures are anticipated, leading to a challenging period, especially for farmers and vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly. It is essential to stay informed, follow safety guidelines, and prepare for the upcoming cold wave to minimize its impact.
