Body Found in a Blue Drum
On August 17, foul smell from a blue drum placed on a terrace in Adarsh Colony raised suspicion. When police reached the spot and removed the lid, they discovered clothes covering a human body. Salt had also been sprinkled over the body, apparently to suppress the odor. The deceased was identified as Hansraj, also known as Hansaram alias Suraj, a resident of Nawadia Nawazpur in Shahjahanpur district of Uttar Pradesh.
SP Manish Kumar confirmed that Hansraj’s throat was slit with a sharp weapon. His body was taken into custody and shifted to the government hospital mortuary in Kishangarh Bas. The medical board later conducted the postmortem in the presence of his family members.
Wife and Lover Arrested After Police Hunt
Following the gruesome discovery, Khairthal police immediately formed four teams to trace the culprits. Investigation revealed that Hansraj’s wife Sunita and her lover Jitendra were behind the murder. Both fled after the crime, but their movements were being closely tracked. By Tuesday morning, police successfully arrested them. They were produced in court and placed on remand for further interrogation to uncover the complete chain of events.
Role of Media and Public Awareness
SP Manish Kumar praised the role of media and public awareness in solving the case quickly. After committing the crime, the accused fled to Ramgarh in Alwar and approached a brick kiln for work. The brick kiln owner, who had seen their faces in media reports, grew suspicious and alerted the police. The police team rushed to the spot and arrested both suspects, preventing them from escaping further.
Eight-Year-Old Son Reveals the Truth
The case took a dramatic turn when the eight-year-old son of the deceased, Harshal, revealed crucial details. According to his statement, on the night of the incident his father Hansraj, his mother Sunita, and Jitendra were drinking together. Sunita consumed two drinks while Hansraj and Jitendra drank more.
Later, Hansraj started assaulting Sunita. To protect her, Jitendra intervened. Sunita then asked the children to sleep, but Harshal woke up at night and saw his father lying on the bed unconscious. In the morning, he noticed his mother and Jitendra standing near the bed. They later emptied a blue drum filled with water, placed Hansraj’s body inside, and added salt before sealing the drum.
Attempt to Escape and Arrest
After hiding the body, Sunita and Jitendra took the children along and went to a brick kiln. Harshal stated that some workers there were known to Jitendra. However, police tracked their movements and reached the location before they could escape further. The accused were arrested on the spot.
Harrowing Details of Domestic Abuse
During interrogation, Harshal also revealed the disturbing pattern of domestic abuse his mother faced. He said his father often assaulted his mother and even burned her with beedis. On one occasion, Hansraj had attacked Harshal himself with a blade in a fit of rage. These repeated acts of violence appear to have contributed to the chain of events that led to his murder.
Police Investigation and Legal Proceedings
Police are now piecing together all evidence to present a strong case in court. Both Sunita and Jitendra face charges of murder and destruction of evidence. Investigators believe the murder was pre-planned as salt was deliberately used to delay decomposition. The couple’s attempt to mislead authorities by fleeing and seeking work at a kiln was foiled due to quick public response and effective coordination between police teams.
The Rajasthan Blue Drum case shocked the community with its brutality and betrayal. A man was killed by his own wife and her lover, and his body was hidden in a drum on a terrace. What makes the case even more heartbreaking is the testimony of the victim’s young son, who witnessed the crime unfold and shared chilling details of domestic abuse.
