Weather Takes a Sudden Turn in Delhi-NCR as Rain Lashes Several Areas

Published on

The weather in Delhi-NCR changed sharply on Tuesday morning after a sunny Monday. Residents across the region woke up to cloudy skies and sudden rainfall. Several areas of the National Capital Region experienced rain during the early hours, bringing back winter chill conditions.

In Noida, heavy rain was recorded around 9:30 am, catching commuters by surprise. Ghaziabad also witnessed similar weather conditions, while Delhi remained covered under dense clouds. The sudden change disrupted morning routines in many parts of the region. Weather officials said cloudy and unsettled conditions are likely to continue till night.

Western Disturbance Behind the Change in Weather

According to meteorological officials, the weather shift has been caused by an active western disturbance. This system is currently influencing large parts of north India. Hill states such as Jammu and Kashmir, Uttarakhand, and Himachal Pradesh are receiving snowfall due to the same system.

As the disturbance moved eastward, it brought moisture-laden clouds towards the plains. This resulted in rainfall and strong winds in Delhi-NCR. The India Meteorological Department had issued a yellow alert for the region during the morning hours, warning of light rain, thunderstorms, and gusty winds.

Wind speeds in some areas may reach between 30 and 40 kilometers per hour. Officials said light rainfall may continue during the afternoon and evening. Thunderclouds and lightning activity are also possible later in the night.

Cloudy Conditions Likely for Next Three Days

The IMD, in its weekly weather bulletin, has predicted cloudy conditions in Delhi-NCR for the next three days. Dense cloud cover is expected to dominate the sky, limiting sunshine during daytime hours. Weather experts said such conditions are typical during active western disturbance phases in winter.

Morning hours may also witness mist or light fog in some areas. Reduced visibility could affect traffic movement, especially during early hours. Authorities have advised commuters to remain cautious while driving.

The minimum temperature in the region may drop further and is expected to hover around 8 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature is likely to remain close to 20 degrees Celsius. A noticeable drop in daytime temperature may lead to intensified cold conditions across the region.

Temperature Had Increased on Monday

Before the rainfall, Delhi experienced warmer conditions on Monday. The maximum temperature at Safdarjung reached 23.2 degrees Celsius. This was 1.1 degrees above the normal average and nearly five degrees higher than the previous day.

The warmer afternoon was felt across many parts of the city. However, nighttime temperatures continued to remain low, maintaining winter chill. Weather data showed mixed trends across different stations in Delhi.

At Palam, the maximum temperature was recorded at 19.3 degrees Celsius. Lodhi Road, Ridge, and Ayanagar reported maximum temperatures ranging between 21.5 and 21.6 degrees Celsius. These readings were close to normal or slightly below average, reflecting fluctuating winter conditions.

Rain Affects Daily Life Across NCR

The sudden rainfall affected daily life in several parts of Delhi-NCR. Traffic movement slowed during peak morning hours, especially in Noida and Ghaziabad. Wet and slippery roads caused delays for office-goers and school commuters.

In some areas, minor waterlogging was reported, though no major disruption was observed. Public transport services continued to operate normally, while traffic police remained on alert to manage congestion.

The rain is expected to bring temporary relief from dry weather conditions. Air quality levels may improve slightly as dust particles settle. However, experts caution that pollution levels could rise again once wind speeds reduce.

Advisory for Residents Amid Changing Weather

Weather officials have advised residents to stay alert due to sudden temperature fluctuations. Such changes may increase the risk of seasonal illnesses. Elderly people and children have been advised to take extra precautions.

People are advised to wear warm clothing during mornings and evenings. Carrying umbrellas is also recommended due to the possibility of intermittent rain. Drivers should follow traffic advisories and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy showers.

Meteorologists said weather conditions may begin to stabilize after midweek. Until then, cloudy skies, light rain, and cold winds are expected to persist. Residents are advised to follow official weather updates for further alerts.
