Tragedy in Delhi: Siblings Found Hanging in Dilshad Garden Flat

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | In a deeply distressing incident that has shaken the Dilshad Garden locality in the national capital, a brother and sister were found dead by suicide, allegedly by hanging, inside a rented apartment on Sunday morning. The case, currently under investigation, raises concerns over unspoken mental health issues, financial distress, or possible social pressures.

The bodies of 32-year-old Veeresh Kumar Tomar and his 30-year-old sister Chinki were discovered hanging from the ceiling in Flat No. 409, Ground Floor, D Pocket, Dilshad Garden, following a PCR call reporting a foul smell emanating from the premises.

Incident Overview: Police Called After Neighbors Noticed Unusual Odor

At approximately 8:30 AM on June 1, residents in the area alerted the police after they noticed a strong stench coming from the locked apartment. Responding to the PCR call, a team from Seemapuri Police Station reached the spot.

The door to the flat was found locked from inside, prompting officers to force entry. Upon entering, the team discovered the lifeless bodies of a man and woman, later identified as siblings, hanging from the ceiling fan with the help of dupattas.

The crime scene was immediately secured, and forensic experts were called in for investigation.

Victims Identified as Siblings from Uttar Pradesh

According to DCP Shahdara, the deceased have been identified as:

  • Veeresh Kumar Tomar (Age: 32), son of Devendra Kumar

  • Chinki (Age: 30), his sister

Both were originally residents of Fatehpur Chak, Kishanpur village, located under Ramlala Police Station, Baghpat district, Uttar Pradesh.

The siblings had been living in the rented flat since 2021, as per rental records provided by the landlord.

Landlord and Local Connection

The flat is owned by Rajeev, son of Jile Singh, a resident of C-55, X-3 Block, Dilshad Garden. He had rented the property to Veeresh and Chinki in 2021.

Initial investigations suggest that the siblings were living alone, and had minimal interaction with the local community. Neighbors described them as “quiet” and “reserved,” with little known about their personal or professional lives.

Crime Scene Investigation Underway

Following standard protocol, the Delhi Police Crime Team and Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were called to the scene. The apartment was videographed, and samples from the room were collected.

No suicide note has been recovered yet. However, sources indicate that the room showed no signs of forced entry, struggle, or disturbance, suggesting that the act was premeditated and mutually agreed upon.

Authorities are also examining phone records, digital devices, and speaking with the victims’ relatives to reconstruct the timeline leading up to the incident.

Potential Suicide Pact? Police Explore All Angles

While the deaths are currently being treated as suspected suicides, the possibility of a suicide pact is under active consideration. According to senior police officials, the fact that both siblings ended their lives at the same time, in the same manner, and under the same circumstances suggests a coordinated decision.

However, officers are not ruling out other possibilities, including:

  • Financial distress or outstanding debts

  • Family disputes or trauma

  • Mental health conditions

  • Social isolation

  • Coercion or external pressure

Police are awaiting post-mortem reports, which have been ordered by the Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital (GTB) mortuary. The results are expected within 48 hours.

Neighbors in Shock: “They Were Quiet, Kept to Themselves”

Residents of the building and nearby flats expressed shock and disbelief at the incident. Most neighbors stated that while they occasionally saw Veeresh and Chinki, they were not particularly social.

“We hardly ever saw them outside. They never caused any trouble or participated in local gatherings,” said Ramesh S., a neighbor from the adjacent flat. “This was completely unexpected.”

Another resident mentioned that the siblings usually kept their windows closed and curtains drawn, and rarely accepted visitors.

Mental Health in Focus: A Growing Urban Crisis

The tragic death of these two siblings has again brought attention to the increasing mental health challenges in urban India, particularly among isolated and working-class individuals. With rising economic pressures, loneliness, and lack of access to mental health care, such incidents have sadly become more frequent.

According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data, suicides in urban India have seen a 10% increase year-over-year, with a significant number of victims aged between 25 and 35 years.

Mental health advocates have emphasized the need for:

  • Community awareness and support networks

  • Accessible mental health services

  • Education on identifying signs of distress

  • Helplines and emergency intervention mechanisms

No Prior FIRs or Complaints Filed

Police confirmed that no prior complaints or FIRs had been registered against either of the deceased. They also had no criminal records or pending civil disputes in the locality.

This has made the case all the more puzzling, with investigators heavily relying on digital evidence, family interviews, and forensic findings.

Family Informed, Post-Mortem Pending

Authorities have contacted the family of the deceased in Baghpat, Uttar Pradesh, who are expected to arrive in Delhi shortly. Their statements will be recorded as part of the investigation.

The post-mortem examination will be critical in determining:

  • Exact time of death

  • Presence of any external injuries

  • Possible use of drugs or sedatives

  • Any indication of third-party involvement

Only after these results can police officially confirm the cause and nature of death.

Legal Protocols and Section Applicability

Currently, a case under Section 174 of the CrPC (suspicious death) has been registered. Depending on the autopsy results and further findings, charges or legal classifications may change.

Official Statement from DCP Shahdara

“At present, we are treating this as a case of suspected suicide by hanging. We have recovered no suicide note yet. Forensic teams are involved, and all possible angles are being thoroughly examined,” said DCP Shahdara.

The tragic demise of Veeresh Kumar Tomar and Chinki in Dilshad Garden highlights the urgent need for community vigilance, mental health awareness, and stronger support systems for those living in isolation.

As investigators work to determine the truth behind this double suicide, the incident stands as a somber reminder of the unseen struggles people face behind closed doors.
