KKN Gurugram Desk | On the morning of May 27, 2025, a powerful explosion occurred near Naushera village on the Majitha Road Bypass in Amritsar, Punjab. The blast resulted in the death of a man suspected to be associated with the banned Khalistani terror outfit, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The explosion took place around 9:30 AM in a vacant plot adjacent to the Decent Avenue Colony, within the jurisdiction of the Kambo police station. The man was reportedly attempting to retrieve a consignment of explosives when the device detonated in his hands, causing fatal injuries.
Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion, followed by smoke billowing from the site. Local residents immediately alerted the authorities. Upon arrival, police officials found the man severely injured, with both arms blown off due to the blast. He was rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries shortly thereafter.
Initial investigations suggest that the explosive device was mishandled during retrieval, leading to the accidental detonation. Forensic teams and the bomb disposal squad have been deployed to the site to collect evidence and ascertain the nature of the explosive material involved.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Amritsar Rural) Maninder Singh stated that the deceased individual was likely a member of a terrorist organization. “He came here to retrieve the explosive material, and the blast occurred due to mishandling,” Singh said.
Deputy Inspector General (Border Range) Satinder Singh indicated that the incident might be linked to the Pakistan-backed Babbar Khalsa International. “As per circumstantial evidence, it is clear that this man was a member of some terrorist organization,” he noted. Police recovered items from the man’s possession that suggest affiliations with such groups.
The incident underscores ongoing concerns about cross-border terrorism and the activities of banned organizations like Babbar Khalsa International. Authorities are investigating whether the explosive consignment was smuggled from across the border, potentially with the involvement of Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).
Punjab Police have increased security measures in the region, particularly in border areas, to prevent similar incidents. Investigations are ongoing to identify any accomplices and to determine if this was part of a larger terror plot.
Local residents expressed shock and concern over the explosion. Rajbir Singh, a nearby shop owner, described the blast as intense, stating, “Such was the intensity that the explosion could be heard even a kilometre away.”
The community has been cooperative with law enforcement, providing statements and any available CCTV footage to assist in the investigation.
The fatal explosion in Amritsar highlights the persistent threat posed by terrorist organizations operating in the region. Law enforcement agencies are diligently working to uncover the full extent of the incident and to thwart any future threats. The public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.
