KKN Gurugram Desk | Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate the Vande Bharat Express on the Muzaffarpur–Champaaran rail route on June 20, 2025. Flagged off from the historic region of Saran, this state-of-the-art semi-high-speed train will greatly improve rail connectivity in Bihar and eastern Uttar Pradesh, especially on the Patliputra–Gorakhpur corridor.

As part of the same event, PM Modi will officially kick off rail infrastructure projects worth ₹9,653.954 crore, including a new 29-km rail line between Vaishali and Deoria on the Hajipur–Sugauli section.

Vande Bharat Schedule: Operating Six Days a Week

According to official sources, the Muzaffarpur–Gorakhpur Vande Bharat Express will run daily except Saturdays, operating seven days a week with no service on Saturdays. The train features eight chair car coaches with modern amenities designed for comfort and efficiency.

Major Rail Modernisation Projects Launched

During the flag-off event, PM Modi is slated to inaugurate several railway infrastructure upgrades valued at nearly ₹9,654 crore. The launch includes:

  • Hajipur–Sugauli Section Enhancement: A newly commissioned rail line between Vaishali and Deoria, spanning 29 km, is a key modernisation.

  • Additional Infrastructure Boosts: The large-scale investment is expected to improve speed, safety, and capacity across the region’s rail network.

These initiatives mark another step in the Narendra Modi government’s efforts toward railway expansion and connectivity enhancement, especially in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.

Background: From Proposal to Reality

The Vande Bharat rollout, initially approved by the Railway Board, was first reported as early as April 18 by leading Hindi media outlets. However, a confirmed timetable was pending. With the official flag-off by PM Modi on June 20, the project has now reached full implementation stage.

Impact on Regional Connectivity and Economy

The new Vande Bharat link will significantly boost regional connectivity, making travel more efficient between key cities in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. This aligns with the government’s broader agenda:

  1. Economic Growth: Faster, reliable train services encourage commerce and tourism, driving local economies.

  2. Time-Saving Travel: With journey times slashed by nearly half, business travelers and daily commuters benefit the most.

  3. Infrastructure Strengthening: Investments like the Hajipur–Sugauli line will ease traffic on older rail lines and facilitate freight movement.

Public and Local Leader Response

Local leaders and passengers have expressed strong approval of the announcement and the planned upgrades.

  • Local MLA Anil Kumar Verma said, “Having Vande Bharat service is a game-changer. It improves comfort and could draw business and tourism to our cities.”

  • Frequent commuter Neha Singh added, “A faster, comfortable train ride makes such a difference—especially when I have meetings in both Patna and Gorakhpur on the same day.”

With improved travel options, the Vande Bharat service is expected to help professionals, tourists, and others maintain tighter schedules.

Flag-Off Ceremony: 20 June at Saran

The flag-off event is scheduled in Saran district, where Prime Minister Modi will ceremoniously launch the service. He will also inaugurate multiple railway projects as part of his ₹9,654 crore initiative.

Gathering Dignitaries:

  • The event is likely to feature state ministers, railway officials, and local representatives.

  • It will emphasize the importance of rail infrastructure in regional development strategies.

The launch of the Vande Bharat on Muzaffarpur–Champaaran Route and related rail projects mark a milestone for India’s rail modernisation. It underscores both technological progress and the government’s commitment toward faster, more efficient rail connectivity.

As passengers prepare for comfortable, speedy train travel, PM Modi’s inauguration on June 20 signals a major leap forward in passenger convenience and regional development.
