India Weather Update Today – June 19, 2025

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a severe weather warning for multiple regions across the country today, June 19, 2025. With the monsoon now active in over half the country, many areas are experiencing heavy to extremely heavy rainfall, while others continue to await relief from scorching summer heat.

According to the latest IMD weather update, Jharkhand is under a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall, while Central India and Northeast India are expected to witness heavy to very heavy showers throughout the day.

Monsoon Covers Over Half of India: Heavy Rains Continue

As per IMD’s monsoon progress report, the southwest monsoon 2025 has successfully covered more than 50% of India’s landmass. Several states are now dealing with excess rainfall, waterlogging, and localized flooding, while others are just beginning to see relief through pre-monsoon showers.

Despite the heavy rain in several parts of the country, the national capital Delhi is yet to witness the official onset of the monsoon. However, intermittent pre-monsoon showers and cloudy weather have brought marginal relief from the heatwave.

IMD Issues Rain Alerts Across Multiple Regions

According to today’s IMD weather forecast for June 19, several regions are under different categories of alerts based on rain intensity:

 Red Alert:

  • Jharkhand – Extremely heavy rainfall warning has been issued. Flash floods and local disruptions are possible.

Orange Alert:

  • Raigad and Ratnagiri districts in Maharashtra – Expected to receive very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall today.

  • South India & Gujarat – Cyclonic circulation is likely to trigger strong winds and localized heavy downpours.

Yellow Alert:

  • Mumbai, Thane, and Palghar – Intermittent rain with chances of thunder and localized flooding.

  • Delhi – Moderate rain, thunderstorms, and dust-laden winds predicted by evening.

Cyclonic Circulation Impacting Delhi, Gujarat & South India

Weather experts have identified an active cyclonic circulation over western and southern regions of India. This system is expected to affect:

  • Delhi NCR – Moderate rain during the day; by evening, gusty winds, dust storms, and light thunderstorms are expected.
At night, intense rainfall with storm-like conditions may occur.

  • Gujarat and coastal Karnataka – Strong winds, choppy sea conditions, and scattered heavy showers.

The IMD has also issued a broader rainfall warning across the country till June 23, suggesting sustained monsoon activity across multiple zones.
