India marked its 79th Independence Day with celebrations across the country. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the nation from the historic Red Fort for the 12th consecutive year. The event began with the hoisting of the national flag followed by the national anthem and a 21-gun salute. Thousands of citizens and special guests gathered to witness the address, which lasted 103 minutes.

The celebrations were attended by top leaders, defence chiefs, and distinguished guests from across India. Security arrangements in Delhi were tight, with the Red Fort area turned into a high-security zone. Light showers were expected in the capital, adding a refreshing touch to the morning.

Mission Sudarshan Chakra: India’s New Defence Shield

One of the key announcements was the launch of Mission Sudarshan Chakra. Inspired by the weapon of Lord Krishna, this advanced defence system aims to secure strategic and civilian locations across India by 2025. Hospitals, railways, and religious sites will receive enhanced technology-based protection. The mission will be capable of neutralising enemy attacks using modern, powerful systems. PM Modi stressed the need to master advanced technologies for national security.

High Power Demography Mission to Protect Tribal Lands

The Prime Minister warned against attempts to alter India’s demographic balance. He accused infiltrators of seizing tribal lands, calling it a planned conspiracy. To counter this threat, he launched the High Power Demography Mission. The mission aims to protect indigenous communities and ensure that demographic changes do not compromise national security.

Naxalism Reduced to 20 Districts

Highlighting improvements in internal security, PM Modi stated that Naxalism, once spread across more than 125 districts, is now limited to just 20. He credited strict security measures and development programmes for tribal communities. Bastar, once a symbol of insurgency, is now producing athletes for the Olympics.

Praise for RSS from Red Fort

For the first time from the Red Fort, PM Modi praised the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). He acknowledged its century-long contribution to nation-building and saluted the dedication of its volunteers.

The Prime Minister expressed concern about obesity, warning that every third person could be affected in the coming years. He urged citizens to reduce cooking oil consumption by 10 percent.

Vocal for Local and Support for Small Businesses

Promoting economic self-reliance, PM Modi called on youth and political parties to adopt the “Vocal for Local” mantra. He urged shopkeepers to display signs reading “Swadeshi products sold here” to promote indigenous goods.

Government at Your Doorstep

PM Modi emphasised that government schemes now reach citizens directly. He said 250 million people have overcome poverty, creating a new middle class. Initiatives are designed to transform lives without forcing citizens to fight for their rights.

Viksit Bharat Yojana: Employment Boost for Youth

A major highlight was the launch of the Prime Minister Viksit Bharat Employment Scheme. This ₹1 lakh crore programme will provide ₹15,000 to first-time employees in the private sector. The scheme begins immediately, aiming to boost youth employment and skill development.

Diwali Gift: Next-Generation GST Reform

PM Modi announced that a major GST reform will be introduced around Diwali. The new policy will reduce taxes on essential items, making them cheaper and boosting the economy.

Without naming specific disputes, PM Modi sent a clear message to the United States. He stressed the importance of self-reliance in the face of global economic pressures.

Self-Reliance in Fertiliser and EV Batteries

The Prime Minister encouraged young entrepreneurs to develop platforms and reduce dependency on imports. He spoke of producing fertilisers domestically and preparing for the electric vehicle battery era. Start-ups, he said, are powering India’s growth.

Advances in Space and Technology

India is moving towards building its own space station and progressing with the Gaganyaan mission. Around 300 start-ups are engaged in space technology. PM Modi also called for the creation of a Made in India jet engine.

Samudra Manthan for Energy Security

India had achieved its 2030 clean energy target five years early. PM Modi announced a “Samudra Manthan” mission to explore and extract offshore oil and gas reserves, reducing reliance on imports.

Reviving the Semiconductor Industry

He recalled how the idea of semiconductors was abandoned decades ago. Now, India is building new units, with Made in India chips expected by year-end. Investments in green hydrogen and nuclear energy aim to multiply nuclear power capacity tenfold by 2047.

Food Security and Operation Sindoor

India has achieved self-sufficiency in food production. Referring to Operation Sindoor, PM Modi highlighted the advantage of indigenous weapons systems. He said this operation proved the strength of Make in India defence capabilities.

Indus Water Treaty and Farmers’ Rights

PM Modi criticised the one-sided nature of the Indus Water Treaty, declaring that Indian farmers have the sole right to water from Indian rivers.

Firm Stand Against Terrorism

The Prime Minister vowed to respond decisively to terrorism and nuclear threats. He stated that the army will determine the time and manner of any retaliation.

Natural Disasters and Relief Efforts

Acknowledging recent natural disasters, PM Modi assured that state and central governments are actively engaged in relief operations.

The Prime Minister saluted the bravery of soldiers involved in Operation Sindoor. The mission targeted terrorists in Pahalgam who attacked civilians based on religion. The resulting damage in Pakistan is still being revealed.

Remembering Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee

On his 125th birth anniversary, PM Modi paid tribute to Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee, calling the abrogation of Article 370 a true homage to him. He also honoured other leaders who shaped the Indian Constitution.

PM Modi reflected on India’s journey since independence in 1947, recognising the challenges faced and the progress made. He described the collective aspirations of the nation and the determination to overcome obstacles.

Ceremonial Proceedings at the Red Fort

The Independence Day schedule began with PM Modi paying tribute at Rajghat before heading to the Red Fort. He inspected the guard of honour, unfurled the national flag, and commenced his address. The event featured participation from armed forces, cultural performers, and special invitees including top kho-kho players.

Security Arrangements and Public Participation

The Red Fort and surrounding areas were heavily guarded. Thousands of citizens, including VVIPs and guests from across India, attended the ceremony. The morning saw rehearsals by all three armed forces, setting the stage for the grand address.
