IMD Weather Updates: Heavy Rainfall, Thunderstorms, and Strong Winds Expected in 14 States Until June 2

KKN Gurugram Desk | The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather warning for heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds until June 2. The department has predicted that these weather conditions will affect various parts of the country, including the southern, western, and northeastern regions, as well as the eastern and central parts of India. In some areas, the rainfall is expected to be extremely heavy, accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds. There is also a risk of heatwaves in certain regions. Below are the detailed weather forecasts for different states:

Severe Weather Conditions Across North India from May 28 to June 2

The IMD has warned of significant rainfall, lightning, and wind speeds reaching up to 70 km/h in several northern states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan. The forecast indicates that the period from May 28 to June 2 will experience heavy showers, thunderstorms, and strong gusty winds across these areas.

  • Himachal Pradesh is expected to experience hailstorms on May 27 and 28.

  • Uttarakhand will witness heavy rainfall from May 28 to June 2.

  • Rajasthan and Jammu are likely to face heatwaves on May 28.

Rainfall and Thunderstorms in South India and Coastal Regions

In South India, the IMD has predicted intense rainfall with thunder and lightning, along with wind speeds of 40-50 km/h, from May 28 to June 2. These conditions will affect states like Kerala, Mahe, and coastal Karnataka. The following regions are expected to witness very heavy rainfall during this period:

  • Tamil NaduPuducherry, and Karaikal will experience continuous heavy to very heavy rainfall from May 28 to June 2.

  • Andhra PradeshRayalaseema, and Telangana will also see showers, thunderstorms, and winds reaching speeds of 50-70 km/h. Telangana is expected to face very heavy rainfall on May 28-29.

Additionally, Gujarat is likely to experience strong winds with speeds up to 70 km/h, while the Konkan and Ghat regions may face extremely heavy rainfall.

Weather in Northeast India: Continuous Rainfall with Thunderstorms

The northeastern states of India are likely to witness light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, over the next seven days. The following states have been issued specific warnings for heavy rainfall:

  • Mizoram is expected to receive very heavy rainfall on May 28.

  • Assam and Meghalaya will face extremely heavy rainfall from May 29 to May 30.

Weather Forecast for Eastern and Central India

In the eastern part of India, heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to continue in the following regions until May 31:

  • Odisha will see very heavy rainfall on May 27 and May 29.

  • JharkhandChhattisgarhWest Bengal, and Vidarbha will experience rainfall and thunderstorms from May 28 to May 31. There is a high chance of heavy rainfall on May 29-30 in Vidarbha and West Bengal.

Rising Temperatures in North and Central India

North India is expected to witness a rise in temperatures by 2-3°C over the next two days, followed by a dip in temperatures by 4-5°C over the next four to five days.

  • Central India will experience stable temperatures for the next three days. However, a temperature increase of 2-3°C is likely after that.

  • Eastern India is expected to remain stable for the next five days, with no significant changes in temperature.

The IMD has issued warnings for widespread heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across 14 states of India, including Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and northeastern regions. As the monsoon season begins to set in, the weather conditions will continue to evolve, with certain areas experiencing very heavy rainfall and others facing heatwaves. It is essential for residents in these regions to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
