Ahmedabad Plane Crash: 17-Year-Old Aryan Captures Shocking Video Moments

Published on

KKN Gurugram Desk | A 17-year-old boy named Aryan, visiting Ahmedabad for the first time, unintentionally became a witness to one of the deadliest air disasters in Indian aviation history. As the Air India aircraft took off and passed close to his neighborhood, Aryan began filming the plane on his mobile phone out of curiosity. Within 24 seconds of recording, the aircraft turned into a ball of fire, crashing just moments later.

This chilling footage, now viral on social media, offers a rare and horrifying glimpse into the Ahmedabad plane crash, which claimed the lives of 241 passengers and crew members on board. Aryan, visibly traumatized by the incident, is currently under psychological stress and has been questioned by police as part of the investigation—though officials confirm he has not been arrested.

Capturing a Tragedy: The Moment That Changed Everything

Aryan, a minor from Idar in Sabarkantha district, North Gujarat, was in Ahmedabad on a short visit to buy academic books. Staying temporarily at his father’s rented residence in the Meghaninagar area, he went up to the roof when he heard the loud sound of an aircraft flying overhead.

Out of sheer fascination, and unaware of what was about to unfold, Aryan began recording the flight using his mobile phone. Just 24 seconds into the video, the aircraft lost control and plunged into the student hostel premises of B.J. Medical College, triggering an explosion that engulfed the area in flames.

“I had no idea that the plane I was filming would crash in seconds. I’m still in shock,” Aryan reportedly told police during his statement.

Psychological Trauma: Teen Witness Under Stress

Following the incident, Aryan was reportedly terrified and emotionally shaken. His sister was the first to watch the video, immediately recognizing its significance. The clip was shared among friends and eventually surfaced on social media, drawing public attention and media interest.

On Saturday afternoon, officers from Gaekwad Haveli Police Station arrived at the Meghaninagar home where Aryan was staying. They questioned him regarding the video and the sequence of events leading up to and after the crash.

Aryan was accompanied by his father to the police station. According to officials, he was not detained or arrested, but taken only for witness questioning.

“There is no case registered against the boy. He is not a suspect—just a civilian who happened to record the incident,” clarified an Ahmedabad Police spokesperson.

Who is Aryan?

Aryan lives with his mother and sister in Idar, while his father, a former soldier in the Indian Army, now works as a driver in Ahmedabad. During the summer break, Aryan had traveled to Ahmedabad for educational needs.

Their landlord, Kailashben, confirmed the family’s peaceful background and said they were initially frightened when police visited their home.

“We were scared, thinking something had gone wrong. But the officers treated the family respectfully and explained the situation,” she told local reporters.

About the Ahmedabad Plane Crash

The crash involved Air India Flight AI171, which had taken off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport en route to London. Shortly after takeoff, the aircraft reportedly developed technical issues and crashed near B.J. Medical College hostel, killing 241 of the 242 onboard.

The only survivor, identified as Vishwas Kumar Ramesh, is recovering and in stable condition, as per hospital officials.

Key Details:

  • Flight: Air India AI171

  • Route: Ahmedabad to London

  • Fatalities: 241

  • Survivor: 1 (currently stable)

  • Location of crash: Near B.J. Medical College, Ahmedabad

Aryan’s footage is being considered an important piece of visual evidence that may assist air crash investigators in reconstructing the moments before impact.

Role of Police and Investigation Agencies

While Aryan’s video is now a crucial asset for the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), law enforcement has assured the public that the teenager is not under suspicion.

The Ahmedabad police confirmed that:

  • Aryan was cooperative during questioning.

  • He is considered a witness, not a person of interest.

  • He has returned home safely and is under the care of his family.

Officials from the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and DGCA have reportedly taken custody of the video for analysis.

 Social Media and Public Reaction

Once the video surfaced online, it quickly went viral across platforms like X (formerly Twitter), Instagram, and YouTube, garnering millions of views within hours. While many users praised Aryan’s presence of mind, others expressed concern about the psychological impact such trauma could have on a minor.

Mental health experts have urged the media and public to exercise sensitivity in reporting the boy’s identity and ensuring he receives emotional counseling.

“Trauma can have long-term effects, especially when experienced at such a young age. The boy needs support, not spotlight,” said a child psychologist from Ahmedabad.

 Mental Health Support for Witnesses

Aryan’s sister confirmed that he is currently unwilling to stay in Ahmedabad, expressing fear and mental exhaustion. Local authorities have been requested to provide psychological counseling and therapy, considering the graphic nature of what he witnessed.

Organizations like Childline India and the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) have also extended their support in case Aryan’s family needs legal or psychological aid.

What began as an innocent moment of curiosity has turned into a national headline. Aryan, a 17-year-old student, unintentionally became the sole videographer of a deadly aviation tragedy, capturing footage that may hold crucial value for crash investigators.

While the nation mourns the victims of the Ahmedabad plane crash, the experience of a young eyewitness like Aryan highlights the unpredictable nature of such catastrophes and the human toll they leave behind—not just for victims, but for those who witness them.
