Tragic Honeymoon in Meghalaya: Indore Man Found Murdered, Wife Missing

Published by

KKN Gurugram Desk | A honeymoon trip turned into a nightmare for an Indore-based couple, Raja and Sonam Raghuvanshi, in Meghalaya. While Raja’s decomposed body was discovered in a gorge near Weisawdong Falls, his wife Sonam remains missing. The incident has raised serious concerns, prompting the family to demand a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.

Timeline of Events

Investigation Details

The East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police confirmed that Raja was murdered using a ‘dao’ (machete), which was recovered from the scene along with his mobile phone. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been constituted to probe the case, and a homicide case has been registered.

Search operations for Sonam are ongoing, involving the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), and other agencies. Heavy rainfall and challenging terrain have hampered the search efforts.

Family’s Allegations and Demands

Raja’s family alleges foul play, citing the absence of his gold ornaments, wallet, and other valuables. They suspect the involvement of local hotel staff, guides, and scooter rental operators. The family has demanded a CBI probe and the deployment of the Army to aid in the search for Sonam.

Government Response

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has sought assistance from Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma. Both state governments have assured active efforts to resolve the case.

The tragic incident underscores the need for stringent safety measures for tourists and a thorough investigation to bring the culprits to justice. The family’s demand for a CBI probe highlights the gravity of the situation and the need for transparency in the investigation.
