Scheme Origins & Incremental Growth
The Ladli Behna Yojana was introduced in May 2023 under the previous Shivraj Singh Chouhan-led administration. Initially set at ₹1,000 per month, eligible married women aged 21–60 were to receive annual aid worth ₹12,000. The first installment was disbursed on June 10, 2023. Ahead of Raksha Bandhan 2023, the amount was increased to ₹1,250, raising the annual package to ₹15,000.
To date, from June 2023 to July 2025, 26 installments have been successfully transferred under the scheme. Over ₹30,000 crore has benefitted women, including two ₹250 special grants during August 2023 and August 2024.
