This hospital is situated at a distance of 500 meters from Lata didi’s house. National mourning has been declared across the country on the death of Lata didi. Lata Mangeshkar, popularly known as ‘India’s Nightingale’ (Swara Kokila), ruled Hindi cinema as a playback singer for almost 5 decades.
Lata Mangeshkar was born on 28 September 1929 in Indore, Madhya Pradesh. Lata Ji came from a Maharashtrian Brahmin family. His father’s name was Dinanath Mangeshkar and mother’s name was Shevanti Mangeshkar. Lata was the eldest among her five siblings. All these siblings had taken music lessons from their father since childhood. Lata had three sisters Meena, Usha, Asha, and a brother, Hridaynath. His father was an accomplished classical singer and stage actor. When Lata was 13 years old, her father passed away. Being the eldest of her siblings, all the responsibility fell on Lata’s shoulders.
Lata Ji’s childhood name was Hema Mangeshkar. She was named Hema after birth but her father changed Hema’s name to Lata after hearing Latika, a female character in her father’s play. Since then Hema came to be known as Lata.
Lata started acting as an actress in her father’s musical plays at the age of 5. But at the age of 13, after the death of her father, the financial responsibility of the family fell on Lata’s shoulders. Because of this, her formal education remained incomplete. In her childhood, Lata had mastered music from her father. As Lata was more interested in music, she gave up acting and started as a singer. Lata emerged as a new face in the field of Indian music and captivated everyone with her melodious vocals. Lata Ji had recorded about 25-30 thousand songs, most of which are in Hindi and Marathi. Lata Ji has left an indelible mark on the hearts of people through her melodious music.
Lata Ji was corona positive a few days ago but after that, she also got cured. Just a few days ago, on January 8, Lata Ji was admitted to the hospital due to pneumonia. After which some improvement was seen in her health. She died today at the age of 92.
Lata Ji’s last rites are performed this evening at Shivaji Park in Mumbai. PM Modi reached Shivaji Park in Mumbai to pay homage to Lata Ji. Star celebrities of the Film Industry were reached for the last glimpse of the body of Lata Ji. Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray has ordered Lata Ji to be cremated with state honors. At the same time, a crowd of people was gathered for the last darshan of Lata Ji.
