The issue erupted after Kangana Ranaut made some harsh remarks about Hansal Mehta, accusing him of having an agenda and criticizing his actions related to the Habitat Studio incident, which involved the Shiv Sena group’s destruction of property. This led to an exchange of sharp words between the two. Here’s a closer look at the unfolding drama and the accusations being thrown in both directions.
Kangana and Hansal’s Exchange: A War of Words
The controversy began after Hansal Mehta, on March 25, 2025, posted a tweet questioning the extent of the damage done to Kangana Ranaut’s house. Mehta inquired whether there was any vandalism or if goons had attacked her property in a manner that violated her freedom of expression or because of alleged FSI (Floor Space Index) violations. His tweet read:
“Was her house vandalised? Did goons enter her premises? Did they do this to challenge her freedom of expression or for alleged FSI violations? Please enlighten me. Maybe I don’t know the facts.”
In response to Mehta’s tweet, Kangana Ranaut retweeted his post with a sharp reply. She accused Kunal Kamra, the comedian, of mocking her during the controversy over her house, which was demolished by authorities over alleged illegal construction in 2020. Kangana revealed that she had been verbally abused, threatened, and subjected to an illegal demolition that was later declared as unlawful by the High Court. She shared her experience, stating that the authorities had sent a notice to her watchman late at night, followed by the bulldozers demolishing her house the very next morning.
In her retweet, Kangana expressed how the demolition was an unjustified act, and she condemned Kunal Kamra for mocking her situation. She said:
“They called me names like ‘haramkhor’, threatened me, served a notice late in the night to my watchman, and the very next morning, before the courts could open, bulldozers demolished my entire house. The High Court called the demolition completely illegal. They laughed at it and raised a toast to it.”
This statement set off a barrage of comments, and Kangana Ranaut didn’t hold back. She further mocked Hansal Mehta, accusing him of pushing an agenda and being blinded by his own insecurities. She wrote:
“It seems your insecurities and mediocrity have not only made you foolish but have also blinded you. Don’t try to sell your foolish lies and agenda relating to my suffering, stay away from it.”
Mehta’s Response: ‘Get Well Soon’
After Kangana’s fiery retort, Hansal Mehta responded with a seemingly dismissive comment, saying:
“Get well soon.”
This was seen as an attempt to shut down the ongoing verbal war, though Kangana didn’t seem to accept his response lightly.
The Kunal Kamra Angle: The Comedian’s Mockery
Kangana also brought up the involvement of Kunal Kamra, the stand-up comedian, who had mocked her during the controversy over the demolition of her house. Kamra had made light of her situation on his show Shut Up Ya Kunal when the incident occurred in 2020. Kamra had stated that he was pleased with the demolition of her property and expressed his approval of the actions taken against her. Kamra’s remarks added fuel to the fire, especially after the demolition was ruled illegal by the court.
In a conversation with an ANI reporter, Kangana Ranaut shared her views on how Kamra mocked her while the situation was unfolding. She said that while the action taken at The Habitat Studio was legal, she refused to link it with her personal experience, as she believed that the two incidents were entirely different in nature.
Kangana said:
“When the illegal action was taken against my property, Kunal Kamra was mocking me. Now the action at The Habitat Studio is legal. But I will not link that incident with my experience. The two are completely unrelated.”
Criticism of Kunal Kamra and the Comedy Culture
Kangana also took a dig at Kunal Kamra’s career and criticized his approach to comedy. She expressed her dissatisfaction with the fact that many comedians, including Kamra, indulge in profanity and cheap humor as a means of gaining attention.
Kangana remarked that Kamra, who had done little of substance in life, should focus on more meaningful work. She said:
“Who are these people, and what are their credentials? These are the same people who have achieved nothing in life. I say if they want to write something, they should do it in literature. Just like dialogue writing in films, scriptwriting is a proper art.”
Kangana’s Take on the Legal Action at Habitat Studio
On the ongoing legal action at The Habitat Studio, Kangana further clarified her stance, stating that while the legal procedures followed at the studio were valid, she did not want to connect this with her own personal incident. According to Kangana, it is important to distinguish between the two situations as they did not share the same basis or reasoning behind them.
She also mentioned how comedians like Kamra use mockery in the name of humor, a practice that she condemned as inappropriate and disrespectful. For Kangana, humor should never be used to demean others or make light of serious matters.
Kangana’s Discussion on the Respect of Public Figures
In another tweet, Kangana criticized the practice of mocking public figures, including politicians, through comedy. She said:
“You are not allowed to insult anyone, no matter who they are. A person’s dignity is everything to them. You are mocking their dignity under the pretext of comedy, disregarding their work and their struggles.”
She made a particular reference to Eknath Shinde, highlighting his journey from humble beginnings to becoming a significant political figure in Maharashtra. Kangana emphasized that regardless of a person’s past, mocking them for their struggles or achievements was inappropriate.
The ongoing verbal duel between Kangana Ranaut and Hansal Mehta has once again drawn attention to the ways in which celebrities and public figures interact on social media. The dispute, initially sparked by comments on property demolition and the legal action at The Habitat Studio, has escalated into a broader discussion about respect, dignity, and the role of comedy in modern discourse. While both sides have made strong statements, it remains to be seen whether this feud will escalate further or settle down.
