KKN Gurugram Desk | The film Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal and Rashmika Mandanna, has been making waves in the Indian film industry. Released on February 14, 2025, this historical drama has shattered numerous records at the box office and has quickly become one of the highest-grossing Bollywood films of all time. With its captivating story and stellar performances, Chhaava has not only dominated the box office but also set new benchmarks for Bollywood films in terms of revenue and success.

Box Office Collection of Chhaava: Breaking Records

Since its release, Chhaava has been unstoppable at the box office, creating a new record almost every day. The film, based on the life of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s son, Sambhaji Maharaj, has exceeded expectations in both domestic and international markets. In its first month alone, the film has set over 30 box office records, making it a historical hit.

The movie’s success story began with a massive opening on its release day. It earned a staggering ₹33.10 crore on its opening day, setting the stage for its record-breaking run. This box office debut made Chhaava the highest-grossing opening film of 2025, surpassing Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, which had earned ₹15.30 crore on its opening day.

A Strong Start: Chhaava’s Opening Day

On February 14, the film made an impressive start, not just by breaking records but also by becoming Vicky Kaushal’s biggest opening film. The previous record for his career’s largest opener was held by Bad News, which grossed ₹8.62 crore on its opening day. Chhaava, with its ₹33.10 crore opening, marked a significant shift in Kaushal’s career, making this his first film to break into the double-digit opening.

Additionally, Chhaava achieved another remarkable milestone. It became the highest-grossing film ever released on Valentine’s Day. Previously, the record was held by the 2019 film Gully Boy, which earned ₹19.40 crore on Valentine’s Day. Chhaava’s success on this day has set a new precedent for future releases during the holiday.

Worldwide Box Office Success

The worldwide box office collection of Chhaava is equally impressive. On its opening day, the film earned ₹50 crore globally, making it the highest-ever opening day worldwide for a film based on historical events. This achievement sets Chhaava apart from other films in its genre, marking its place in Bollywood’s history.

The movie’s strong performance continued throughout the opening weekend, where it earned ₹121.43 crore. This massive weekend collection not only crossed the ₹100 crore mark but also outperformed other major releases like Tiger Zinda HaiPadmavat, and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 in terms of opening weekend collections.

Crossing the ₹200 Crore Milestone

In just six days, Chhaava crossed the ₹200 crore mark, a feat previously achieved by Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in 2017. This milestone further solidified Chhaava as one of the fastest films to reach this target. By the end of its first week, the film had earned ₹225.28 crore, surpassing other major blockbusters like JawanDangal, and Chennai Express in terms of its seventh-day earnings.

Chhaava became the second film in Vicky Kaushal’s career to cross the ₹200 crore mark, after Uri: The Surgical Strike. The movie’s robust box office performance continued with its eighth-day collection, which reached ₹249.31 crore, surpassing Uri’s lifetime earnings of ₹245.36 crore.

The Film’s Second Weekend: Another Record-Breaking Feat

The film’s second weekend was just as impressive. With ₹109.23 crore earned over the weekend, Chhaava became the second film to surpass ₹100 crore in its second weekend. Previously, Pushpa 2: Hindi Version held this record. Chhaava also made history by crossing ₹300 crore within just ten days of its release. This achievement made it Vicky Kaushal’s first film to earn ₹300 crore globally.

Chhaava also outperformed Padmavat, one of the biggest historical films in terms of box office earnings. While Padmavat earned ₹302.15 crore in India, Chhaava has nearly doubled that, continuing to break records with each passing day.

Reaching the ₹400 Crore Mark

On its 15th day, Chhaava crossed the ₹400 crore mark, becoming the 14th highest-grossing film in Indian cinema history. By the 23rd day, it crossed ₹500 crore, joining an elite group of films that includes JawanPathaanGadar 2, and Baahubali 2. This level of success has placed Chhaava in the top echelon of Bollywood’s most successful films.

The film continued to break records by surpassing the lifetime earnings of Gadar 2Pathaan, and Animal in just four weeks. By the end of the fourth week, Chhaava had solidified its position as the 8th highest-grossing Indian film of all time.

Success on Holi Day

Chhaava reached another remarkable milestone on Holi Day, March 14, by earning ₹6.6 crore. This day marked the film as the highest-grossing movie of the day, surpassing Pushpa 2, which earned ₹3.75 crore. This continued the film’s record-breaking streak, propelling it into the top three highest-grossing Bollywood films.

By the end of March, Chhaava had grossed ₹560 crore, making it one of the top three highest-grossing Bollywood films. With only Jawan (₹640.25 crore) and Stree 2 (₹597.99 crore) ahead, Chhaava is set to continue its box office dominance for the foreseeable future.

Actors’ Career Boost with Chhaava

The success of Chhaava has not only benefited Vicky Kaushal but has also provided a significant boost to the careers of other actors involved. Rashmika Mandanna, who starred in Chhaava, continued her streak of blockbuster films, with Chhaava being her third major hit after Animal and Pushpa 2.

The film also marked a career-high for several other actors, including Vineet Kumar Singh and Akshaye Khanna. For Akshaye Khanna, Chhaava became his first film to gross over ₹580 crore. The film’s success has proven to be a career-changing moment for many of its cast members.

Director Laxman Utekar’s Success with Chhaava

Director Laxman Utekar, who previously directed films like Luka Chuppi and Zara Hatke Zara Bachke, has achieved a new high with Chhaava. While his previous films were successful, none had achieved the level of commercial success that Chhaava has reached. This film marks Utekar’s most significant achievement as a director and establishes him as a prominent figure in the Indian film industry.

Chhaava: A Cultural Phenomenon

Chhaava has now become a cultural phenomenon, captivating audiences not only for its historical narrative but also for its remarkable box office performance. With a combination of gripping storytelling, stellar performances, and massive commercial success, the film has earned its place among Bollywood’s all-time greats.

Chhaava has not only broken multiple records at the box office but has also created a new benchmark for Bollywood films in terms of success. From Vicky Kaushal’s massive opening to its continued dominance across all weekends, the film has proven to be one of the biggest blockbusters in recent history. With its global earnings surpassing ₹750 crore, Chhaava has firmly established itself as one of the top-grossing films worldwide.
