KKN Gurugram Desk | In a candid conversation with journalist Faye D’Souza, acclaimed filmmaker Anubhav Sinha opened up about the emotional toll of his 2011 superhero film ‘Ra.One’ and his experience working with Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan. Sinha described the film’s underperformance as a “heartbreak” that lingered until the release of his 2018 film ‘Mulk’.

Despite the setback, Sinha praised Khan’s grounded nature, noting that the actor remains a “middle-class boy at heart” despite his immense wealth and fame. “He has all the money in the world! But what makes you happy? Does Gucci make you happier, or does the fact that your sister is happy make you happier?” Sinha remarked, highlighting Khan’s emphasis on family and emotional fulfillment over material possessions.

Sinha also reflected on the overwhelming scale of ‘Ra.One’, admitting that he “lost control” during its production. He acknowledged that the film’s ambition to appeal to all audiences may have been detrimental, and he felt he couldn’t deliver a film that Khan could be proud of.

The director’s journey post-‘Ra.One’ saw a transformation in his filmmaking approach, leading to critically acclaimed social dramas like ‘Mulk’, ‘Article 15’, and ‘Thappad’. These films marked a departure from his earlier work, focusing on pressing societal issues and showcasing Sinha’s versatility as a filmmaker.
