KKN Gurugram Desk | Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan is all set to return with his much-awaited sequel “Sitaare Zameen Par”, scheduled for theatrical release on June 20, 2025. In a candid appearance on India TV’s popular show “Aap Ki Adalat”, Aamir opened up about why he rejected a staggering ₹60–125 crore OTT deal, explained his strong commitment to cinema halls, and expressed confidence that audiences will flock to theaters for this inspirational sports drama.
A sequel to Aamir’s critically acclaimed “Taare Zameen Par” (2007), this film centers on a basketball coach mentoring a team of 10 children with autism, set against the backdrop of sports inclusion.
Aamir steps into the role of the coach this time, guiding his young players both on and off the court.
The movie aims to spark discussions about disability acceptance and celebrates Bollywood’s growing focus on inclusive narratives.
During his appearance on “Aap Ki Adalat”, Aamir explained why he turned down a massive ₹60–125 crore deal to release the film exclusively on OTT platforms:
“I refused that deal because I’m against OTT-first releases. I’m loyal to theaters—they’re the reason I’m sitting here today. If we start delivering the film to your home eight weeks after release, no one would go to cinemas. You lose the magic of watching a film in the darkness among 300–400 people—laughing, crying, even swearing together. I believe we must preserve theaters.”
Aamir emphasized that theatrical releases enable shared emotional journeys between viewers—something that cannot be replicated at home.
Aamir added that he’s not opposed to OTT platform releases eventually, but only after allowing the movie to breathe in theaters:
“If Sitaare Zameen Par streams on OTT six months later, I have no issue. It keeps the value of theatrical viewing intact. But I haven’t signed any OTT deals as of now.”
This approach balances box-office potential with eventual digital accessibility, safeguarding cinema halls while reaching wider audiences later.
Aamir expressed unwavering faith in theatrical audiences:
“I trust that people will come to theaters to see this film. It’s meaningful, it’s impactful, and the story—about autism and children—is something to be proud of.”
By connecting with emotionally resonant storytelling, Aamir acknowledges and respects his audience’s power to make a film successful at the box office.
One of the central themes of Sitaare Zameen Par is neurodiversity and the period acceptance of children on the autism spectrum:
Aamir highlighted that children with autism should not be hidden from mainstream society but celebrated.
The coach’s journey with the 10 young athletes promises to deliver an uplifting message of inclusion and challenge long-held social stigmas.
Early promotions show glimpses of Aamir coaching, playful interactions between the children, and emotional breakthroughs on the basketball court—allowing audiences to anticipate an engaging, heartfelt drama.
Theatrical Release: June 20, 2025
Genre: Sports Drama / Drama with Social Themes
Star: Aamir Khan (Coach)
Plot: Coaching autistic children, emotional transformation, social inclusion
Hit Potential: High, due to Aamir’s track record with socially relevant films (Taare Zameen Par, Dangal)
Industry experts predict Sitaare Zameen Par will likely follow Aamir’s formula of critical acclaim and commercial success with themes that resonate broadly across audiences.
During the show, Aamir spoke extensively about the future of cinema versus OTT’s growing dominance:
He warned that films skipping theaters for OTT threaten the industry as a whole.
Stressed that cinema halls are more than content delivery—they create an immersive, communal experience.
Aamir rejected high OTT offers to remain faithful to big-screen storytelling and preserve theatrical value.
Aamir’s stand resonates at a time when filmmakers face a crossroads—OTT exclusivity often pays more upfront but may cannibalize theatrical earnings and engagement.
Aamir leading by example may encourage other filmmakers to:
Delay OTT releases
Commit to minimum theatrical windows
Prioritize cinema-first strategies
This could help preserve theaters in the face of a digital surge.
With Sitaare Zameen Par arriving June 20 and backed by Aamir’s unique stand against OTT-first release models, the film already has a compelling story beyond its narrative:
It champions theatrical releases
Emphasizes community viewing
Advocates for autism acceptance
And holds entrepreneurial merit in charting a hybrid release strategy
As audiences prepare for Aamir’s emotional journey into sports and societal inclusion, the film promises to be a cinematic event and a cultural moment in summer 2025.
