The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) has officially announced the examination date for the 71st Combined Preliminary Competitive Examination (BPSC Prelims 2025). According to the commission, the exam will be conducted on Saturday, 13 September 2025, across all districts of Bihar. Candidates are expected to appear in the afternoon session, scheduled between 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

Official Notification and Exam Guidelines

The Patna headquarters of BPSC released the notification confirming the date and time of the exam. Candidates were urged to arrive at their designated centers on time and follow every guideline mentioned in their admit cards and exam instructions.

The commission has also confirmed that admit cards will soon be available on the official website bpsc.bihar.gov.in. The admit card will include crucial details such as the name of the examination center, its full address, and the district.

BPSC further issued a warning against misleading or fake news regarding the exam schedule. The official statement made it clear that the 71st BPSC Prelims Exam will only be held on 13 September 2025, and there will be no changes to this schedule.

Scale of Applications and Competition

The 71st BPSC Preliminary Examination has witnessed an overwhelming response from aspirants across Bihar. According to official records, a total of 4,70,510 candidates applied for the examination during the application window, which remained open from 2 June to 30 June 2025.

Interestingly, on the final day alone (30 June), more than 83,133 applications were submitted, highlighting the immense popularity of this exam and the tough competition expected among aspirants.

This surge reflects the rising interest in administrative and civil services careers, particularly within Bihar, where BPSC continues to serve as the most prestigious gateway to government positions.

Number of Vacancies in BPSC 71st Exam

The upcoming BPSC 71st Preliminary Exam is being conducted to fill 1,298 vacancies across multiple state services. These positions include some of the most respected administrative posts in Bihar’s governance system.

The official breakdown of vacancies is as follows:

  • 100 Deputy Collectors (SDM rank)

  • 14 Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSP)

  • 79 Finance Administrative Officers (FAO)

  • 459 Block Minority Welfare Officers

  • 502 Block Cooperative Officers

These numbers highlight the diversity of roles that the BPSC exam covers, ranging from administrative leadership to police service and financial governance.

Importance of the 71st BPSC Prelims Exam

The BPSC examination is considered one of the toughest state-level competitive exams in India. Every year, it draws candidates not only from Bihar but also from neighboring states due to its high demand for prestigious positions in state services.

The 71st edition of the exam carries particular importance, given the wide range of vacancies and the increasing number of applications. For aspirants, success in this exam can open doors to administrative and governance roles that directly influence Bihar’s development.

Exam Pattern and Preparation Insights

The BPSC Preliminary Exam will be conducted in objective format with candidates required to mark answers on an OMR sheet. The duration of the exam is two hours, and questions will cover a wide range of subjects, including general studies, current affairs, history, polity, geography, and economy.

Candidates are reminded that strict adherence to exam guidelines is mandatory. As per the commission’s directions, candidates must bring their admit card, an original photo ID (Aadhaar card, voter ID, driving license, or passport), and passport-sized photographs.

Any discrepancy in admit card details must be immediately reported to BPSC authorities before the exam date.

Increased Competition and Challenges Ahead

With over 4.7 lakh applications for just 1,298 vacancies, the competition in the 71st BPSC exam is expected to be intense. The ratio of applicants to vacancies clearly highlights the tough battle ahead for aspirants.

The pressure to perform well in the prelims is higher this year, as the final selection involves multiple stages including mains examination and interviews. The prelims act as the first elimination round, and only a fraction of candidates will qualify for the next stage.

Preparations by BPSC and Exam Centers

The BPSC has arranged exam centers in all districts of Bihar, ensuring accessibility for candidates from urban and rural areas. Additional security measures, including frisking and monitoring through CCTV, are expected to prevent malpractice.

The commission has emphasized punctuality, warning that gates will close well before the exam begins, and latecomers will not be allowed under any circumstances. Candidates are advised to reach their exam centers at least two hours in advance.

The Road to Prestigious State Services

Cracking the BPSC exam provides entry into some of the most prestigious services in Bihar, including roles like Deputy Collector, DSP, and Finance Officer. These posts not only come with administrative authority but also carry significant responsibility toward governance and public welfare.

Candidates preparing for the exam often undergo years of coaching, self-study, and practice, making the BPSC exam one of the most competitive recruitment processes in India.

The BPSC 71st Combined Preliminary Examination 2025 will be a landmark event, with 13 September 2025 confirmed as the official date. With over 4.70 lakh applications for just 1,298 posts, the exam highlights the intense competition for Bihar’s most prestigious administrative positions.

From Deputy Collectors to DSPs and Finance Officers, the range of vacancies makes this exam highly attractive for aspirants seeking to serve in key governance roles.

BPSC has urged candidates to remain cautious of false information, download their admit cards from the official website bpsc.bihar.gov.in, and strictly adhere to exam day protocols.

For the thousands of aspirants who have worked tirelessly, this exam is more than just a test—it is a gateway to shaping Bihar’s future. The coming weeks will see heightened preparations, and on 13 September 2025, the state will witness one of the most significant recruitment exams of the year.
