KKN Gurugram Desk | In a deeply disturbing turn of events, a 54-year-old man from Faridabad’s Roshan Nagar has been arrested for the brutal murder of his daughter-in-law, whose body was discovered buried approximately 12 feet deep in a pit meant for a toilet. The accused, who is also the victim’s father-in-law, allegedly acted alone and attempted to destroy all evidence of the crime.

This Faridabad murder case has sent shockwaves through the region, not only for the gruesome nature of the crime but also for the chilling method used to conceal the body — reminiscent of scenes from crime thrillers.

The Crime: A Shocking Discovery in a Quiet Neighborhood

According to the Faridabad Police, the incident took place in Roshan Nagar, located in the Palla area of the city. The victim, Tanu Rajput, had been missing since April 21–22 night, prompting her husband Arun Singh to file a missing person’s report on April 25 at the Naveen Nagar Police Post.

Initial investigations yielded no significant leads, but suspicions grew after police interrogated a mason who had recently been hired to seal a pit in front of the house. What followed was a chilling discovery: the body of Tanu was buried in a toilet pit approximately 12 feet deep, filled with soil and later concretized to eliminate any trace of the crime.

Key Accused: Victim’s Father-in-Law Arrested

The prime accused, Bhup Singh, is the father-in-law of the deceased and a resident of Roshan Nagar. Following intense questioning, he confessed to committing the murder alone. He has now been presented before the court and remanded to two days of police custody for further investigation.

According to ACP Rajesh Kumar, the investigation is ongoing and all angles are being explored, including possible motives related to domestic conflict and honor-based violence.

Timeline of Events: What Happened on the Night of the Murder

The murder reportedly took place on the night of April 21–22, 2025. At the time, the family home had only three occupants:

  • The accused father-in-law, Bhup Singh

  • His daughter, who had returned from college and was sleeping on the ground floor

  • The victim, Tanu Rajput, who was sleeping on the first floor

The accused’s wife was away attending a wedding in Uttar Pradesh, and his son, Arun Singh, was on duty during the night shift.

It was during this window that the accused entered his daughter-in-law’s room. As per the confession, an argument broke out between the two. In a fit of rage, Bhup Singh allegedly strangled Tanu with her own scarf (chunni).

A Calculated Cover-Up: How the Crime Was Concealed

What followed the murder was a meticulously planned cover-up. Bhup Singh had recently excavated a pit in front of his house for the construction of a toilet. He dumped the body in the pit, covered it with soil, and later called a mason to seal it with concrete.

The strategy was not just to hide the body, but also to eliminate any possibility of detection. However, inconsistencies in Bhup Singh’s statements and the role of the mason became the turning point in the investigation.

Missing Person Report Led to Murder Revelation

Three days after the murder, Arun Singh (the victim’s husband) lodged a complaint at the local police post, reporting that his wife had gone missing without informing anyone. Initially, it was treated as a case of voluntary disappearance.

But the victim’s family, unconvinced by the narrative, pressed for deeper investigation. Police questioned the mason who had been employed to cover the pit shortly after the alleged disappearance. His statements raised serious doubts about the timeline and activities around the house.

On this basis, the police intensified their interrogation of Bhup Singh, eventually leading to his confession and arrest.

Domestic Disputes and Tension in the Family

Sources familiar with the case report that Tanu Rajput’s marriage to Arun Singh, which took place two years ago, was troubled from the beginning. Frequent arguments and disagreements within the household had created a hostile environment.

While the exact motive remains under investigation, the possibility of domestic abuse, control, and unresolved tension has not been ruled out. Police are also probing whether any honor-based motives were involved in the crime.

Legal Charges and Police Action

The Faridabad Police have now added charges of murder (Section 302 IPC) and destruction of evidence (Section 201 IPC) to the existing FIR. Bhup Singh is currently in police custody and further investigation is underway to determine if anyone else in the family was aware of, or involved in, the crime.

ACP Rajesh Kumar confirmed that forensic teams have collected material from the burial site, and a post-mortem has been conducted on the exhumed body.

Public Reaction and Safety Concerns

The Faridabad community has been left shocked and outraged by the revelation. Locals describe Bhup Singh as a quiet man who rarely interacted with neighbors, making the revelation all the more unsettling.

Citizens have called for stricter enforcement of domestic abuse laws, better tracking of missing persons, and faster forensic action in such sensitive cases.

The Faridabad daughter-in-law murder case is a tragic reminder of how violence often lurks within households, masked by silence and social pressure. It also underscores the need for stronger family counseling systems, early intervention in domestic disputes, and greater awareness of women’s safety at home.

As the police continue their investigation, this case serves as a cautionary tale about the lethal consequences of unchecked domestic tension and the importance of timely reporting and community vigilance.
