Vikas Divyakirti: Tips for Bihar Students Preparing for UPSC – Areas to Focus On

Published on

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti is one of the most renowned and popular teachers in the field of UPSC Civil Services coaching. His approach to teaching and his ability to simplify even the most complex topics make him a favorite among UPSC aspirants. His motivational videos often go viral on the internet, and he has a large following, not only from UPSC candidates but also from general audiences who admire his teaching style.

Dr. Divyakirti, the founder and managing director of Drishti IAS Coaching, recently shared insights into the preparation strategies for students coming from Bihar. In an interview, he talked about the areas where Bihar’s students need to focus in order to improve their chances of success. He emphasized the importance of mastering technology, learning new software, and developing a comfort level with English, as these skills are crucial for both the examination and professional growth.

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti’s Approach to Bihar Students’ Preparation

In an interview with BBC Hindi News, Dr. Vikas Divyakirti was asked about the specific challenges faced by students from Bihar and what they should work on to enhance their performance in the UPSC exams. His response was thoughtful and insightful. He clarified that there is no particular deficiency in Bihar’s students. However, he pointed out that sometimes students from Bihar bring a “cultural baggage” with them.

When asked about this cultural baggage, Dr. Divyakirti explained that while there is a certain traditional mindset, especially towards new and modern things, this can be overcome. He encouraged students to embrace technology, learn new software, and approach learning with an open mind. He also stressed the importance of developing a comfort level with English, not for the sake of language itself, but because English has become the language of opportunity, especially in the professional world.

The Importance of Learning New Technologies

Dr. Divyakirti specifically highlighted the need for students to master modern technologies. According to him, in today’s rapidly evolving world, keeping up with technological advancements is essential for success in any field, especially in UPSC preparation. Students should be open to learning new software and tools that can help them in both their exam preparation and their future careers. He also mentioned that students should not shy away from adopting new methodologies or resources simply because they are unfamiliar.

Developing Comfort with English

Another critical point Dr. Divyakirti mentioned was the need for students to work on their English proficiency. While he acknowledged the importance of respecting and preserving one’s mother tongue, he emphasized that English is a necessary skill in today’s world, especially for securing jobs and advancing in careers. Dr. Divyakirti noted that language is not just about communication, but about access to opportunities. By improving their command over English, students can open doors to better career prospects, which is vital in fields like UPSC, where English plays an important role in the examination process.

Bihar’s Presence in Civil Services

Dr. Divyakirti also praised Bihar’s students for their contributions to civil services. He pointed out that despite the challenges, students from Bihar have been consistently making their mark in the UPSC exams. The state has produced numerous successful candidates who have gone on to serve the country in prestigious positions. He highlighted that the increasing presence of Bihari students in media and various administrative roles is a testament to their hard work and dedication.

The Passion for Civil Services in Bihar and Uttar Pradesh

The desire to join the civil services is particularly strong in regions like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Dr. Divyakirti explained that this passion for civil services is driven by the respect and power associated with these positions. He emphasized that this desire for power and respect is not limited to any particular caste. The aspiration to secure a good salary, job security, and respect in one’s profession is universal, and civil services offer all of these benefits.

Dr. Divyakirti further added that in states like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where power and respect hold significant importance, the pursuit of civil services is seen as a pathway to achieving these goals. On the other hand, in states like Goa, where people may prioritize wealth and a comfortable lifestyle over power and status, the passion for UPSC may not be as intense.

The Role of UPSC in Career and Society

Dr. Divyakirti also reflected on the role of civil services in India’s society. According to him, civil services represent a combination of power, respect, financial stability, and job security, which makes them attractive for many individuals. In regions like Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, where the demand for these qualities is high, civil services become a prestigious and desirable career option. The recognition and authority that come with holding a civil services position are key motivators for students in these regions to pursue such a career.

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti’s UPSC Journey

Dr. Vikas Divyakirti’s own journey to success is also an inspiration for many UPSC aspirants. In 1996, he cleared the UPSC Civil Services Examination in his very first attempt, securing a rank of 384. He was allotted the Home Ministry cadre in the Central Secretariat Service. However, despite achieving such success, Dr. Divyakirti chose to resign from his position and dedicate himself to coaching and guiding UPSC aspirants. His decision to leave a prestigious government job and contribute to the education sector reflects his passion for teaching and his belief in the transformative power of education.

For students from Bihar aspiring to join the civil services, Dr. Vikas Divyakirti’s advice is clear and impactful. He encourages them to embrace technology, focus on improving their English, and approach new learning opportunities with an open mind. The importance of cultural evolution and adaptability cannot be overstated, as these factors play a crucial role in success not only in the UPSC exam but also in professional and personal growth.

Dr. Divyakirti’s teachings continue to motivate thousands of UPSC aspirants, especially from Bihar, to pursue their dreams and work towards their goals. His emphasis on hard work, technology adoption, and language proficiency helps students understand what is required to succeed in the competitive world of civil services. By following his guidance, many students have been able to transform their lives and contribute to the nation’s development.
