Patna Metro: A New Chapter Begins with Phase 1 Launch on August 15

Published on

Patna, the capital city of Bihar, is set to see its metro dream come true as the first phase of the Patna Metro is slated to begin operations on August 15, 2025. The first phase of this much-anticipated project will cover the stretch from New Patliputra Bus Terminal to Malahi Pakdi Station, spanning a distance of 6.107 kilometers. This will mark a significant milestone in the city’s ongoing development, making daily commutes more convenient for its residents.

The construction of Malahi Pakdi Station, one of the major stations in this metro phase, is nearing completion. Currently, work is underway to install lifts and escalators to enhance passenger convenience. Jivendra Kumar, the Minister of Urban Development and Housing, recently reviewed the progress of this project and emphasized the importance of maintaining both quality and timeliness in the completion of the metro lines.

First Phase of Patna Metro: An Overview

The first phase of the Patna Metro, which will run from the New Patliputra Bus Terminal to Malahi Pakdi, will be a 6.107 km long corridor featuring five stations. The route is designed to ease the city’s transport problems and enhance connectivity. However, it’s important to note that Khemnichak Station, although part of the original plan, will not have trains stopping there just yet, as its construction is still ongoing.

The new metro line is expected to provide much-needed relief to the residents of Patna by offering a fast, efficient mode of public transportation. Additionally, Khemnichak Station will serve as an interchange where passengers can switch between the Blue Line and Red Line, thus increasing the network’s reach across the city.

The Significance of Malahi Pakdi Station

Malahi Pakdi Station will be a key station on Patna Metro’s primary corridor, strategically located at the intersection of Hanuman Nagar Road and Patliputra Stadium Road. The station is designed to be elevated and will have two floors. The construction at the station is almost finished, with four entrances and exits, four lifts, and four escalators being installed to facilitate smooth movement of passengers.

To ensure accessibility, two entrances and exits will be on the eastern side of the station, while the other two will be located on the western side. The station will also have concrete stairs and ramps for the convenience of elderly and differently-abled passengers. The station has already been painted with a fresh coat of white putty.

Passenger Facilities at Malahi Pakdi Station

Once operational, passengers will access Malahi Pakdi Station from the ground floor, where they will proceed to the first floor to purchase tickets. The second floor will have the platform, where passengers can board the metro trains. For added convenience, the station will feature parking spaces for vehicles, as well as retail shops, allowing the metro management to generate additional revenue.

This station’s opening will directly benefit nearly one lakh people from the Malahi Pakdi area, offering them a more efficient way to travel without the need to cross busy roads like the Patna Bypass.

Impact of Patna Metro on Local Connectivity

The development of the metro line will provide an enhanced mode of transport for residents, especially those living near the Malahi Pakdi Station, as it will reduce the need for people to use busy roads for their daily commute. Currently, traveling from Malahi Pakdi to Khemnichak Station involves a long and cumbersome journey of 1,516.84 meters, which will be significantly shortened by the new metro service.

In addition to improving local transportation, the Patna Metro project is also expected to boost the local economy by providing job opportunities and creating more efficient urban mobility solutions. As the metro system expands with future phases, it will further connect different parts of the city, reducing road congestion and lowering pollution levels in Patna.

Patna Metro Phase 1: Features and Key Highlights

  • Route Length: 6.107 km (from New Patliputra Bus Terminal to Malahi Pakdi Station)

  • Number of Stations: 5 stations, with Khemnichak Station being the interchange for the Blue Line and Red Line.

  • Average Speed: The metro will operate at an average speed of 80 km/h, making it a fast alternative to road-based transportation.

  • Expected Benefit: The metro will directly benefit residents, especially those in the Malahi Pakdi area, by offering better connectivity and reducing travel time.

Future Phases of Patna Metro

While the first phase of Patna Metro is a promising start, there is still much more to come. As the project continues, additional phases will expand the network across the city, connecting more areas and improving overall transportation. The metro will become an essential part of Patna’s urban infrastructure, providing faster, cleaner, and more sustainable transportation options.

Urban Development in Patna: Transforming Transportation

Patna’s growth and modernization have taken a significant leap forward with the introduction of the metro system. The metro will play a crucial role in tackling the city’s traffic congestion, which has long been a major issue for commuters. With the launch of Patna Metro, the city will be able to manage its growing population and expanding infrastructure in a more organized and sustainable way.

The Patna Metro is part of the city’s Smart City initiative, which aims to improve urban mobility, reduce pollution, and offer efficient services to the people of Patna. As the metro network expands, it will help in reducing dependence on personal vehicles, leading to fewer vehicles on the road and contributing to a cleaner environment.

The launch of the Patna Metro on August 15 will mark the beginning of a new era for the city’s public transport system. With its well-planned stations, modern facilities, and efficient operations, the metro will provide fast, reliable, and eco-friendly transport to the people of Patna.

As Malahi Pakdi Station becomes one of the key hubs in this metro network, it will provide greater accessibility and convenience for commuters, easing their daily travels and contributing to the city’s development. The success of Phase 1 will undoubtedly pave the way for future expansions, ultimately transforming Patna’s urban landscape and mobility infrastructure.
